MOL (America) Announces December KPI Results

MOL Liner Ltd. announces the December 2016 results of Regional Key Performance Indicators (KPI) in the Americas in the following categories:  customer service, and electronic data interchange (EDI). The results are available on a monthly basis and posted in greater detail at www.CountOnMOL.com. The results of the Shipment Management Center Customer Commitments are included. See table. *The target was modified from 20 seconds to 120 seconds, effective with January 2015. It was again modified to 90 seconds, effective with September 2015 and the establishment of the Shipment Management Center Customer Commitments. **The target has been increased from 90% to 95%, effective with January 2015. ***The target has been modified effective in January 2015. The target was previously ”within 72 hours”.

Craig Named President and CEO of MOL America

MOL Liner Ltd. has announced that Richard “Dick” Craig has been promoted to President and CEO of MOL (America) Inc. effective June 24, 2014. He has 34 years of experience in the container shipping industry including over 11 years with MOL. MOL Liner Ltd.’s President & Chief Executive Officer Toshiya Konishi said, “Dick was instrumental in bringing MOL (America) Inc. up to one of the most efficient and productive organizations within MOL Liner in the last 10-plus years. Craig, currently the executive vice president, sales and operations of MOL (America) Inc., joined MOL (America) Inc.

Shippers Launch Joint Direct Asia-West Africa Service

MOL Liner Ltd. (MOL), Evergreen Line and COSCO Container Lines Co., Ltd. today announced the launch of a weekly direct service from Asia to West Africa, branded the WA1. The new express link will further enhance each company's service network to cover strategic markets in Africa to meet increasingly diverse commercial requirements. The jointly operated 12-vessel service will commence from Shanghai on June 2, 2014, with six of the ships being operated by MOL, four by Evergreen Line and two by COSCON.

MOL Adjusts Intra-Asia Service Network

MOL Liner Ltd. (MOL) announced an enhancement of its Intra-Asia service network with new rotation of “HS3” and new Japan-Strait service “HS4,” offering competitive service despite potential schedule disruption as a result of recent port congestion in the region. MOL will introduce Singapore-Jakarta feeder service (AJS is operated by MOL) to stabilize the service schedule of “HS3”. This will help maintain competitive transit times from Japan to Jakarta by transshipment to this dedicated feeder service and reduce the risk of accumulated delays at ports. Furthermore, the new “HS3” will add a direct call at Shekou on the northbound rotation to cover service needs from/to the port of Shekou. MOL will offer a new service “HS4” to link Japan-Taiwan-Hong Kong-Jakarta.

Britain’s new global shipping port welcomes its first scheduled vessel, the ‘MOL Caledon’ from South Africa. After more than a decade of planning and construction across three square miles of development, DP World London Gateway deep-sea port is now open & operational. The ‘MOL Caledon’ was welcomed by DP World Chairman Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Vice Chairman Jamal Majid Bin Thaniah, Group CEO Mohammed Sharaf, Chairman of MOL Liner Junichiro Ikeda, and shipper representatives JFH Hillebrand MD David Mawer and Chingford Fruit MD Gavin McNally, together with other senior executives.

Transpacific Trade Organizational Changes

MOL has announced the following organizational changes which will take effect in August 2013. These changes will further build the MOL organization as one that customers and employees can continue to count on. Calvin Duffaut, assistant vice president, yield management and corporate communications for MOL (America) Inc. has been promoted to vice president, yield management of MOL Liner and will relocate to Hong Kong. Duffaut joined MOL in 2007 after many years of management experience in trade management, pricing and logistics with Pacer Stacktrain Ltd., American President Lines, and Lykes Bros. Steamship Inc. Duffaut holds an undergraduate degree from Yale University. He will report to Jotaro Tamura, senior vice president, liner yield management, equipment management and network operation.

MOL Completes Containership Collision Drills

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) announced the completion of a tabletop drill done in cooperation with the fifth Regional Coast Guard Headquarters. The scenario entailed a containership operated by MOL Liner Division (Hong Kong) and managed by an MOL Group ship management company (Hong Kong) colliding with a coastal freighter in Osaka Bay, Japan. Myanmar MOL Obtains License and Registration

Directorate of Investment and Company Administration (DICA) has approved the Permanent Business License of ‘Myanmar MOL Limited.’, a wholly-owned subsidiary of MOL Liner Ltd. on 4th February. MOL is one of the first companies in the Shipping industry that has set up its wholly owned subsidiary.   With over 100 years of MOL presence and continuous commitment in Myanmar, MOL has launched a direct feeder service linking Singapore and Yangon since March 2012.  The service provides a scheduled sailing to our customers in Myanmar with assured transit time and connections to our global network over Singapore.   The establishment of our wholly-owned subsidiary in Myanmar is another indication of our continued commitment to the Myanmar market bringing us closer to our customers.

MOL Announces Launch of New China Service

MOL Liner Ltd. (MOL) has announced its new China – Middle East Express, departing Ningbo on 11th March 2013. MOL will offer an additional weekly service by joining the existing service operated by APL (American President Lines). The service will be operated by 6 vessels and MOL will provide one (1) Post Panamax ship (Mv. “MOL Tyne”). In addition to the present services, MOL will be able to enrich service coverage as well as frequency between China and Middle East. MOL Upgrades CX1 Service Linking Panama, Manaus

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. upgraded its CX1 feeder service between Panama and Manaus and the beginning of independent operation on the route. The move will provide additional space on this rapidly growing trade with four 1,700 TEU ships and stabilize the schedule to boost service quality. Calling ports and transit times remain unchanged from the existing service. The expanded feeder capacity will enable MOL to accommodate additional peak season demand. “Assuming total space and operating control, MOL will be able to enhance its already exceptional service to Manaus with even more reliable relay connections and strong on-time delivery” said MOL Liner Chief Operating Officer, T.K. Konishi.

MOL Orders New Containerships

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) today announced a decision to order two containerships (8,600 TEU) from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd., with delivery slated for 2013. Along with eight 8,100 TEU ships already in operation, the new vessels will be deployed to Asia-Europe routes. The company also reached an agreement with NOL Group* for a three-year charter of five large containerships (14,000 TEU) of 10 that NOL Group has on order. The five chartered ships will be delivered in 2013 –2014 and will serve with the other five operated by APL on Asia-Europe routes. “Expansion of the fleet will secure needed capacity on the East-West route," said Junichiro Ikeda, CEO, MOL Liner.

MOL On Time Arrival Performance Results

ROTTERDAM, 11 May 2011 – MOL today updated On Time Arrival Performance results for January - March 2011 for the major East-West trade lanes for quarterly report as an effort of upgrading and improving the quality of services MOL Liner offers. Scope of trade lanes is Asia-U.S. West Coast, Asia – U.S. East Coast, Transatlantic, and Asia – Europe. When a vessel arrives in the first port of destination area for both directions, eastbound and westbound, within 24 hours of scheduled time of arrival, the voyage is regarded as On Time Arrival.

MOL's Ship Starts Direct Service to North Europe

Mitsui O.S.K Lines Ltd.(MOL)'s MOL Precision made its first call at Tan Cang-Cai Mep International Terminal (TCIT) in Vietnam on January 15, where a welcoming ceremony was held in commemoration of the event. MOL Vessels Enrolled in Low Sulfur Fuel Program

MOL announced that it has voluntarily enrolled two of its vessels, the MOL Endowment and MOL Experience, in the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Ocean Going Vessel Low Sulfur Fuel Program. MOL is one of the first ocean carriers to enroll in the Low Sulfur Fuel program, and is the first of the Japanese carriers to do so. The program provides incentives to operators of ocean vessels to utilize low-sulfur fuel in their main propulsion and auxiliary engines instead of bunker fuel known as Intermediate Fuel Oil 380. Switching to low-sulfur fuels reduces emissions of fine particles as well as carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and nitrous oxide and contributes to the improvement of the environment.

MOL Establishes New Panama Vessel Operation Center

MOL hosted a party to celebrate the grand opening of its new Panama Vessel Operation Center in Panama City, Panama on December 9, 2003. Some of the guests in attendance included: Mr. Joaquin Jacome, Minister of Commerce; Mr. Jerry Salazar, Minister of Canal Affairs; and Mr. Shuji Shimokoji, Ambassador of Japan. Considering Panama to be one of the world’s key maritime centers, the company established MOL (Panama) Inc. in May 2003, which is responsible for handling all commercial activities for MOL’s liner division in Panama. The responsibilities of MOL (Panama) Inc. were increased last month when it was named a regional office in charge of managing the activities of MOL’s Caribbean and Central America shipping agents.

Suzuki Retires from MOL America

After three years, Osamu Suzuki is retiring as the President/CEO and Chairman of MOL (America) Inc. Mr. Suzuki held numerous positions world-wide since joining MOL in 1973. His liner division experience began in 1984 when he became a Long Beach, California Representative. He served as General Manager of the Liner Division and Managing Director of MOL (Asia) before being appointed to MOL (America) Inc.’s top position in 2005. Suzuki accepted a post-retirement position as Executive Vice President of MOL Ferry Co., Ltd., Japan. Replacing Suzuki as MOL America’s new President/CEO and Chairman will be Noboru Kitazawa. A graduate of Tokyo University, Mr. Kitazawa is a 33-year MOL Liner veteran. He comes to the U.S.

MOL Resigns from TSA & CTSA

“With the European Union’s abolition of liner anti-trust immunity, it has become extremely difficult to align the business processes of our entire organization when its regional divisions must operate to differing standards. Having done a thorough analysis of marketplace dynamics and the roles of TSA/CTSA relative to our unique ability to differentiate, we concluded MOL and its customers would be better served by conducting business independently from transpacific liner agreements,” stated Masakazu Yakushiji, Executive Vice President in charge of MOL’s Liner Division. MOL has been a member of TSA and CTSA since their inceptions in 1989, but resigned from the westbound discussion agreements in June 2005. A Happy New Year to all in our MOL Group companies. There is a Japanese saying, “ichiyo-raifuku” (the return of spring), meaning that “the winter has left and the spring has come”. It also means that “after a series of unfortunate things happened, things finally turning for the better”. I would like to celebrate the beginning of a new year together with all of you by rewording slightly this saying for MOL to “ichiyo-KENfuku”, which alters the meaning to: “do not wait passively for favourable turn of situations, but rather be proactive to seize better opportunities through our own endeavours”.

MOL Resigs from WTSA & CWTSA

MOL will resign from the Westbound Transpacific Stabilization Agreement (WTSA), and the Canada Westbound Transpacific Stabilization Agreement (CWTSA), effective June 12, 2005. “After a very careful analysis of the facts, we have concluded that the interests of MOL and our customers will be better served if MOL conducts its business outside the WTSA and CWTSA,” stated Hiroyuki Sato, CEO of MOL’s Liner Division. MOL has been a member of WTSA/CWTSA since it was formed. MOL is committed to continually improving its service quality, while providing customers with maximum value for their transportation dollar.
