Al Fenci and Al Durrah:
The Al Fenci and Al Durrah, the first two new RAmparts 3200 tugs have been successfully delivered to Abu Dhabi Ports Company by Grandweld Shipyards. The vessels are specially designed to assist in marine and Harbour operation at Khalifa Port including escorting & towing, mooring/unmooring, and fire-fighting operations. The design is based on an intended low-manning operation, with a high standard of machinery automation. Particular attention has been paid to the crew comfort, with high levels of noise and vibration control. This is has been certified by ABS with the HAB notation for workboats.
RAL’s RAmparts 3200 Tugs Achieve Milestone
Early in 2012, Cheoy Lee Shipyards, Hong Kong, was awarded a contract from a South American client for three new RAmparts 3200CL class tugs. This marks a significant milestone for the popular RAmparts 3200 design as the order includes the 100th tug to be delivered to this design. There are few designs in the world workboat market to achieve this milestone in such a short time. The RAmparts 3200 design originated from a Robert Allan Ltd. internal R&D program back in the early 2000’s.
A New Tug Class for Med Marine
Construction will soon commence on the first of a newly designed variant of the RAmparts series of tugs from Robert Allan Ltd., the RAmparts 2300-MM, developed exclusively for Med Marine to be built at its shipyard in Turkey. The new tug will be the first of six vessels expected to be completed within the next 2-3 years, with the leading vessel expected for delivery in late 2017. The signing ceremony for the new contract took place on February 9 at the Med Marine Head Office in Istanbul, Turkey. This venture reflects a longstanding cooperation between Med Marine and Robert Allan Ltd.
Tugboat Fleet Expansion by Signet Maritime
Signet Maritime Corporation contracts Patti Marine Enterprises, Inc. in Pensacola, Florida, to construct tow Robert Allan designed tugs. RAmparts 3300 Class Tug Enters Service in Ningbo Port
The new tug Yong Gang Tuo 29 has recently been delivered to her owners, the Ningbo Port Group of China. This is the 7th Robert Allan Ltd. design in Ningbo's fleet and the first of the RAmparts 3300 class worldwide. The design is an evolution of the RAmparts 3200 class vessels already in Ningbo's fleet, and is a result of a recognized need to increase power and bollard pull to meet the expanding requirements of the larger ships visiting the port. Robert Allen Designed Tug Launched in Italy
Rimorchiatori Riuniti bolsters Porto di Genova fleet with another Robert Allan Ltd. Rimorchiatori Riuniti currently operates five Robert Allan Ltd. designed tugs in its Porto di Genova fleet, including two AVT 2700 harbor escort tugs (Svezia and Inghilterra), one AVT 3600 offshore towing and escort tug (Messico) and two RAmparts 2,400W ASD harbor tugs (Norvegia and Spagna). The company has recently bolstered its Genova fleet with a new RAmparts 2400SX, 70 metric tons bollard pull tug, built by Sanmar Shipyard in Turkey.
Pair of ASD Tugboats Delivered to Keppel-Smit
The ASD tugs KST Passion and KST Pride were were delivered to their owner, Keppel-Smit Towage Pte. Ltd of Singapore in October 2014. The two vessels are the first in the new RAmparts 3300AV series of tug designs by Robert Allan Ltd., and were constructed at the AVIC Zhenjiang Shipyard Marine Pte Ltd., Singapore at its facilities in China. On trials, both vessels met or exceeded all performance expectations, with KST Pride producing an average ahead bollard pull of 71.5 tons and achieving a maximum speed of 14.03 knots.
Robert Allan Designed RAmparts 3300 ASD Tug for China
The Cao Gang 26 is a new RAmparts 3300 ASD tug designed by Robert Allan Ltd., constructed at JiangSu Zhenjiang Shipyard (Group) Co. Ltd. in China and delivered to the Owner, Cao Fei Dian Port in Northern China in November 2016. The vessel has been outfitted to the highest standards for a maximum crew complement of 14. The Master’s and Chief Engineer’s cabins are located on the main deck, and two six-person cabins are located on the lower accommodation deck. Also included are common W/C’s on the main and lower accommodation decks.

The Cao Gang 26 is a new RAmparts 3300 ASD tug designed by Robert Allan Ltd., constructed at JiangSu Zhenjiang Shipyard (Group) Co. Ltd. in China and delivered to the Owner, Cao Fei Dian Port in Northern China in November 2016. On trials, the vessel met or exceeded all performance expectations, producing bollard pull astern of 60.5 metric tons and a free running speed ahead of 13.5 knots. The vessel has been outfitted to the highest standards for a maximum crew complement of 14, the designer said.

Signet Maritime Corporation continues to expand its diverse fleet by awarding a contract for the construction of two Robert Allan Ltd. designed tugs to Patti Marine Enterprises, Inc. in Pensacola, Florida. Celebrating 75 Years of Ship Design
In 2005, Robert Allan Ltd will celebrate its 75th year of continuous business as a firm of Consulting Naval Architects. From its base in Vancouver, the company serves the international marine community with a wide range of specialized workboat designs, as it has done since its inception, through three generations of family ownership. The company has experienced considerable growth in the past decade, and currently has more than 30 vessels to its designs under construction around the world, including a myriad of high-performance tugboats of all types, fireboats, crewboats, patrol craft, ferries, and barges. New Tug Series from Robert Allan, Cheoy Lee
Canadian naval architecture firm Robert Allan Ltd. and Chinese shipbuilder Cheoy Lee Shipyards have rolled out the RAmparts 2500-CL, an exclusive new tug series being built by Cheoy Lee. The new tug series is an evolution of Robert Allan Ltd.'s RAmparts 2500-W design, updated for Cheoy Lee's marketing objectives, which include increased flexibility allowing for a multitude of options according to clients’ requirements. The first RAmparts 2500-CL vessel is scheduled for delivery in early 2018.
Robert Allan Highlight Sanmar's Bogacay Series Tugboats
So far two Boğaçay series RAmparts 2400SX tugs have been delivered. The 'Bogacay I' was delivered to new owners Gemport in Turkey and renamed Zeycan Y. The second hull of the series, 'Bogacay II' has entered into service in Sanmar’s fleet. In late 2011, Sanmar A.S. contracted with Robert Allan Ltd., Naval Architects of Vancouver, B.C., Canada to provide a design for a new tug series to add to Sanmar’s expanding product portfolio. Brazil Shipyard Delivers Second RAmparts Tugboat
Designers Robert Allan inform that Keppel Singmarine Brasil Ltda. (KSMB), of Navegantes, Brazil have recently completed the construction of the 24m LOA 'SMIT Pareci', the second of a series of six Robert Allan designed RAmparts 2500 tugs, for SMIT Rebocadores do Brasil (Rebras), of Rio de Janeiro. The designers explain that the RAmparts Class tugs are a series of proven, standardized Z-drive tug designs. Each of these designs has been developed from a successful prototype vessel or series of vessels, and refined to emphasize ease of construction and Owners’ specific requirements.
Norvegia and Spagna: New RAmparts 2500W Class Tugs for Italy
In August the RAmparts 2500W tug Norvegia was delivered by Astilleros Armon of Navia, Spain to owners, Rimorchiatori Riuniti in Genoa, Italy. Shortly afterward in early September, the second vessel of Rimorchiatori Riuniti's two boat order, the Spagna, was delivered. The RAmparts 2500W is a new variation on Robert Allan Ltd's standard RAmparts 2500 design. It was developed in collaboration with Rimorchiatori Riuniti who were looking for a compact, yet powerful shipdocking tug for their operations in the historic and busy port of Genoa.

PSA Marine of Singapore, one of the largest harbor tug owners and operators in Asia, took delivery of the RAmparts3200 class tugs Rubicon and Righteousfrom Cheoy Lee Shipyards, Hong Kong and Yuexin Ocean Engineering Co. Ltd., Guangzhou, PR China respectively. The RAmparts Class tugs from the design portfolio of Robert Allan Ltd., Naval Architects of Vancouver B.C. are a series of well-proven ASD tug designs. Each of these designs has been developed from a successful prototype vessel or series of vessels and refined to emphasize ease of construction.
Chinese yards to Deliver RAmparts Tugs
Robert Allan Ltd. has been hard at work in the Chinese market for the last few years, not only for various shipyard clients, but also for local owners. In addition to major international ports in China such as the Ports of Ningbo, Tianjin, Shanghai and Shenzhen, recent progress has been made on a regional level at the deep-water Port of Cao Fei Dian in northern China’s Bohai Bay in Hebei Province. Cao Fei Dian Port, with an annual cargo capacity over 100 million tonnes, will soon take delivery of its first Robert Allan Ltd.
Royal Thai Navy Orders Harbor Tug
The Royal Thai Navy has ordered a new 32-meter tug from shipbuilder Italthai Marine Limited of Thailand, announced the vessel’s designer, Robert Allan Ltd. Italthai Marine, whose Managing Director Wirat Chanasit inked the construction deal with Navy Commander Admiral Krisorn Chansuvarnich on September 17, has entered a contract with Robert Allan Ltd. for its RAmparts 3200 Class Tug design, part of the popular RAmparts Series. According to the designer, the Z-drive diesel-powered harbor tug is optimized for ship-assist service and coastal towing.
Cheoy Lee Shipyards Delivers New Tugs
Cheoy Lee Shipyards handed over the first in a series of four RAmparts 3000 tugs designed by Robert Allan Ltd. To owners; Hong Kong United Dockyards (HUD). The Taikoo is the latest edition of the RAmparts class design from Robert Allan Ltd., and derives its name from a historic dockyard in Hong Kong operated by Butterfield and Swire beginning in 1907. The yard was responsible for building some of the largest ships in the world during the early 1900's. It was closed in the '70's to be developed into private housing.
Next Generation of RAmparts Tugs for SAAM
Chilean maritime services and logistics company SAAM S.A. has signed a contract with naval architecture firm Robert Allan Ltd. for a new generation of RAmparts 2400-W Class tugs. The first two boats for SAAM’s Peruvian affiliate TRAMARSA, named Chincha and Tupac, are now under construction at Wuxi Shipyard in China with others soon to follow. The RAmparts 2400-W Class tugboat is a twin Z-drive, diesel-powered tug, designed for ship-assist and terminal support operations. Ship-handling is performed over the bow using a split drum hawser winch.
Third RAmparts 2500 Tug for SMIT-Rebras
Keppel Singmarine BrasilLtda. (KSMB), of Navegantes, Brazil has recently completed the construction of the SMIT Panará, the third of a series of six Robert Allan Ltd. designed RAmparts 2500 tugs, for SMIT Rebocadores do Brasil (Rebras), of Rio de Janeiro. The SMIT Panará was delivered in May of 2014, and follows its sisters, the SMIT Pataxóand the SMIT Pareci. The RAmparts Series is a standardized Z-drive tug design which was developed from a prototype vessel and refined to emphasize ease of construction and owners’ specific requirements.
Sanmar Receives Tug Orders from Italy
Roughly one month after Turkish tug building company Sanmar laid the keels of two new Sirapinar Class tugs, the opportunity to purchase these ASDs has been snapped up by Italian operator Rimorchiatori Napoletani. Commenting on the new design, which was developed in cooperation with cooperation with Robert Allan Ltd, Ali Gurun of Sanmar said, “The industry is under the challenge of ever tighter cost control and the only way to achieve this is to have more bollard pull in more compact hulls with low operational and maintenance costs.
