A Step Forward for Direct Air Capture

German Ship Manager Partners on Direct Air Capture

German ship manager NSB Group has entered into a partnership with Phlair, a German direct air capture company for the delivery of carbon dioxide removal credits (CDR).The credits will be produced by capturing CO₂ from the atmosphere at Phlair’s direct air capture facility, “Dawn” and permanently storing it underground.NSB will cover Scope 1 emissions by using alternative zero-emission technology and will use direct air capture to address its Scope 3 emissions.“Direct air capture and storage is one of the most scientific and reliable approaches to carbon removal.

NSB Invests in New Simulator

NSB GROUP will work with Wärtsilä on the technical upgrade of the simulator of its NSBacademy. Since 2007 NSB is training Nautical Officers in its own Maritime Training Center. The retrofit for the technical update began in June and is expected to last three months.The NSBacademy has two ship‐handling simulators with a field of view of 270° and 180° respectively. Both units are being completely overhauled. The new Wärtsilä Simulators will include the new version of Navi‐Trainer professional simulation software

Newport Shipping, NSB Group Tout Ship Widening Collaboration

Newport Shipping and NSB Group announced a plan to work together to develop their ship widening proposition for its customers. The NSB Group design will increase container capacity by up to 30% by implementing its unique widening concept, according to the company improving profit and resulting in a better Energy Efficiency Design Index for Existing Ships (EEXI).The concept is about widening a container vessel in breadth while the existing main engine remains the same. Furthermore, other options are for bulbous bow optimization and propeller retrofit. During the widening process, the amount of reefer plugs can be increased to get more flexibility in the stowage plan. NSB has already carried out three ship widening projects for vessels in service for MSC, at the HRDD shipyard in China.

Ponath Takes Full Control of NSB

Helmut Ponath, founder and long-time managing director of the German shipping company NBS Group, has taken full control of the company.Since 2000, the shareholders of the Buxtehude-based NSB Group have consisted of four owners: Conti NSB Holding, Gebab Holding, Norddeutsche Reederei Holding and Buxriver. In December 2021, the four shareholders signed the contract to transfer their all shares to Ponath's Buxriver."In doing so, they are handing over the company to the one that has always been most involved in the operation of the shipping company.

NSB Adds 31 Ships

German ship manager NSB Group  has added 31 new ships under its management. In the course of the new joint venture named PT Asia Marine Temas fleet of NSB grows up to 96 vessels in total. At the same time NSB extends its business in Southeast Asia. Partner of the new joint venture is Indonesian shipping company Temasline. Headquarter of the company is located in Jakarta. Until 2020 the corporate structure of the group of companies will undertake further changes. REEDEREI NSB is extending international ship management activities under corporate brand name NSB GROUP. Thereby the company from Buxtehude takes key steps forward to establish its transformation from a national manager of KG vessels to an international ship manager and maritime service partner.

Reederei NSB Opts for Marlink VSAT

NSB Niederelbe Schiffahrtsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG (REEDEREI NSB) has chosen Marlink to supply fully managed VSAT services including connectivity and an extensive business critical solutions roll-out for its entire fleet of 50+ vessels. The contract, signed early in July, positions Marlink as NSB’s primary provider of voice and connectivity services, supporting the leading German shipping company to continue improving its crew welfare and operational communication facilities with fully integrated services and solutions. In addition to the management of containerships, tankers, bulkers and offshore jack-up vessels, REEDEREI NSB, Member of NSB GROUP, is active in crewing of its own ships as well as vessels of other parties.

KR Boosts Operational Efficiency with Boxship Conversion

The Korean Register has announced that it has successfully completed a feasibility study for the conversion of an 8,600 teu containership into a 10,000 teu vessel. This new capacity specification was developed in response to a shipping company’s desire to adapt to recent shipping environment changes and to improve operational efficiency. In recent years a change in the optimal size of vessels and a deterioration in the operational efficiency of existing ships, has led to newbuilding orders or the conversion of existing ships.
