OCEAN Industries Inc. has ordered 8 × MAN 12V175D-MM, IMO Tier III-compliant engines in connection with the construction of 4 × 24-meter ASD tugs for the Royal Canadian Navy. The vessels are set respectively for delivery to Canada’s major naval bases at Esquimalt, British Columbia and Halifax, Nova Scotia, with each location set to receive two tugs. Under the contract, MAN Energy Solutions will also provide SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) technology for the engines, facilitating Tier III compliance, as well as ship service diesel-generator sets.

Canadian bulk shipping company Fednav Limited has taken delivery of Federal Montreal, its newest Great Lakes-suitable Handysize vessel. The ceremony was attended by senior management from both Fednav and the shipyard.The Federal Montreal is a 34,500 DWT international ice-class bulk carrier, flagged in the Marshall Islands. Built to trade in the St. Lawrence River and the Great Lakes, the vessel is certified by DNV GL and is equipped with the latest environmental protection technology.Named in honour of the city Fednav calls home, the Federal Montreal is the company's first ship ever to bear the name of a city."Montreal is Canada's transportation capital.

Danelec Marine, along with distribution partner Elcome International, is to supply Danelec DM100 Voyage Data Recorders (VDRs) for 14 ships in the Middle East.   The new VDR orders include seven new offshore support vessels (OSVs) and five tanker retrofits for an oil and ga companies based in Abu Dhabi. In addition, Elcome has recently completed retrofit of Danelec DM100 VDRs on two tankers of a major Danish shipping company.   Introduced in 2014, Danelec Marine’s DM100 VDR complies with all the latest IMO and IEC performance standards, and incorporates Danelec’s exclusive SoftWare Advanced Protection (SWAP) technology for ease of shipboard service as well as built-in cyber protection technology.

A new Cat Fines Test Kit has been launched by asset control and protection technology provider Parker Kittiwake. The onboard test identifies the presence of abrasive silicon and aluminum catalytic fines, which can become embedded into engine components and cause abrasive wear, causing irreversible damage to a vessel’s fuel system if left undetected. When fuel is stored for extended periods of time, cat fines – leftovers from the refinery cracking process – settle out of the fuel and build up as sediment in storage tanks.

Kittiwake announced an order for its ThrusterSCAN product from Transocean. ThrusterSCAN marks a new era in online condition monitoring for azimuthing thrusters, helping to predict failure, enabling preventative maintenance and ultimately reducing costly downtime. Griffith drove in a wedge that signified the fit-up of the ship’s first keel blocks and then welded his initials onto a steel plate that will become a permanent part of the ship. The new ships will be 839 ft. long, have a beam of 118 ft., and carry 600 cargo trailers and 200 autos. The ships are designed for the rigors of Alaskan service and feature the latest in environmental protection technology.

The National Steel and Shipbuilding Company (NASSCO), has signed a five-year agreement to continue their use of the Tribon Shipbuilding System at the San Diego shipyard in California. NASSCO will use the Tribon system for the design and production of all of their naval and commercial ships. NASSCO implemented the Tribon Hull system in 1995 on the Sealift New Construction program for the U.S. Navy. In 1997 NASSCO implemented the entire Tribon system including, all hull and outfitting applications. The agreement includes a provision that a Tribon system will be installed at Bath Iron Works, which is also a member of the General Dynamics Corporation Marine Systems Group. Bath Iron Works is working with NASSCO on creating the detailed design of the U.S. Navy’s new T-AKE logistic ships.

Northrop Grumman Corporation completed demonstration trials of a new, integrated multi-sensor situational awareness, surveillance and response system designed to counter pirate or terrorist attacks. The live demonstrations were conducted by Northrop Grumman’s Sperry Marine business unit in January and February 2007 at the Virginia Advanced Shipbuilding and Carrier Integration Center (VASCIC) on the waterfront at Newport News. The event was observed by U.S. Navy and commercial maritime customers. During the trials, the system successfully detected, tracked and intercepted two surface craft under several different high- and low-speed scenarios designed to replicate potential real-world maritime threats.

The Directors of Keppel Corporation Limited (Keppel) announced the sale of 100 percent stake in Cathodic Protection Technology Pte Ltd (CP Tech) by Keppel Integrated Engineering to the management team at CP Tech for a total cash consideration of S$3.9 million. CP Tech is one of the largest providers of cathodic protection systems in the Asia-Pacific region. The divestment is in line with Keppel’s strategy of disposing its non-core assets. The divestment is not expected to have any significant impact on the net tangible assets and earnings per share of Keppel for the financial year ending December 31.
