While the maritime industry steams toward alternative and dual fuel solutions, much of the focus, rightfully so, remains on the main movers as well as the overall vessel design and logistics considerations. Here we look at the SERO PumpSystems’ SHPmarine side channel pump, a pump integrated into the “Secondary Fuel Supply Systems” (SFSS) of hybrid ship propulsion units pumping LPG (propane) to the main shipboard engine. According to the manufacturer, it is the first pump of its kind to be both Lloyd's Register accepted and DNV GL type approved for maritime dual fuel propulsion systems.

Larger Waterjets Join Rolls-Royce Product Line

Rolls-Royce said it has added three larger stainless steel Kamewa waterjets to its product range. The new waterjets are designed for use in bigger (30m+) vessels. With fewer components, the new range is easier to install reducing the time and specialist skills required to fit them with consequent reductions in vessel build time and cost, Rolls-Royce said. The waterjets are supplied with an entire inlet, including main hydraulics, valves and even factory calibrated electronics where necessary. The pump technology uses proven waterjet technology. The whole package is pre-built and tested at the company’s Kokkola factory. The three new sizes being introduced are the S71, S80 and S90. This completes the larger steel-series size range.

Wärtsilä's' New Fuel Pump for Gas Operations

The latest addition to Wärtsilä's portfolio of gas pumps has been introduced. The new Wärtsilä Svanehøj ECA Fuel Pump (EFP) has been developed in close cooperation with designers of liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel systems to support gas fuelled engines that achieve greater efficiency. The new Wärtsilä pump offers a number of advantages, including having no tank connections below liquid level, no electrical components inside the tank, and hardly any contribution to the generation of boil off gas. Having less heat and pressure build up in the fuel tank makes the new pump very safe, while in harsher operating conditions it also maintains the pressure, thereby ensuring a continuous gas flow to the LNG fuelled engine.

Wärtsilä to Supply Pumping Equipment for Statoil

Wärtsilä's series of pumping systems for Statoil. Wärtsilä's ability to supply a complete portfolio of solutions for the marine and offshore industry is again demonstrated with this latest order for a series of pumping systems for Statoil. Wärtsilä has won an order to supply a series of pumps to be installed on a new floating storage unit (FSU). The FSU is being built by Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea for Statoil, the Norway based international energy company. When completed, it will be located on the Heidrun oil and gas field in the Norwegian Sea. Delivery of the Wärtsilä equipment is scheduled for February 2014. The order for the deep well cargo offloading pumping system and the fire water pump package includes 38 deep well cargo pumps produced by Wärtsilä…
