Sri Lanka, Korea Pact on BWMS
Sri Lanka's leading ship repair, ship building, heavy engineering and offshore engineering facility Colombo Dockyard PLC (CDPLC) inked an agreement with PANASIA, Korea as a partner for Ballast Water Management Systems (BWMS) and Scrubber installation.This collaboration with PANASIA will allow Colombo Dockyard to offer this service of installation of BWMS and Scrubbers to its clientele, said a press release from the ship building company is based in Colombo.Colombo Dockyard has already installed eight Numbers PANASIA Ballast Water Management Systems on its new construction vessels; this is an added positive factor for ship owners to look at Colombo Dockyard confidently for repair and installation solutions of BWMS.
Metal Trades Delivers Construction Barge
Shipbuilder and Heavy Steel Fabricator Metal Trades, Inc., located on Yonges Island, SC has announced the launch of its largest ever built new construction barge. This barge is 370’ x 59’ x 14’. It is designed to hold a total of 18- 60 foot rail cars capable of carrying cargo for up to 2298 Long Tons for New York New Jersey Rail, LLC (NYNJR), a short line railroad and wholly-owned entity of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Metal Trades, Inc. is contracted to build a total of two of these barges and the first of these barges is to be delivered next week.

Sturrock Dry Dock Puts Operation Phakisa into Action
The Sturrock Dry Dock in the Port of Cape Town has been a hive of activity recently with a number of interesting vessels berthing at the facility for repairs and maintenance. The mining vessel, mv Debmar Atlantic, owned by De Beers Marine Namibia (Pty) Ltd, recently underwent routine work at the dry dock, carried out by contracting firms. Built in 1978, mv Debmar Atlantic features its own diamond processing plant on board the vessel. During the mining process gravel, bearing diamonds, is airlifted from the seabed to the vessel.
Durban’s 90-year-old Dry Dock Set for Repair
The 90-yer-old Prince Edward Graving Dry Dock in Durban, which is owned and operated by Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA), will be undergoing a R30 million ($2.4 million USD) repair project on its outer caisson over the next four months. Group turnover increased 28.8% to $1.1 billion in Q2 2014 from $890.3 million in Q2 2013 supported by the increase in shipyard revenue. Turnover from shipyard operations increased 29.3% to $1.1 billion in Q2 2014 from $877.2 million in Q2 2013 mainly on higher revenue contributions from ship repair, ship building and marine engineering segments. The Group delivered 3 bulk carriers, 1 pipelay heavy lift vessel, 1 tender barge and 1 float-over launch barge in Q2 2014.
NMEC Names Michael Torrech New Chairman

COSCO Group (Singapore) Report Decline in Bulk Shipping, Shipyard Revenue in Q1
Against the backdrop of a difficult business environment, the Group achieved turnover of $978.7 million with a net profit attributable to equity holders of $27.8 million. Group turnover inched down 3.2% to $978.7 million in Q1 2012 from $1.0 billion in Q1 2011 due to a decline in dry bulk shipping and shipyard revenue. Turnover from shipyard operations decreased marginally by 2.5% to $965.9 million in Q1 2012 from $990.2 million in Q1 2011 mainly due to lower revenue contributions from ship repair and ship building segments which more than offset the growth in revenue from marine engineering segments. The Group successfully delivered 12 dry bulk carriers in the 1st quarter of 2012.
