Cadeler Orders Offshore Wind Industry's 'Largest' Installation Vessel Duo

Offshore wind installation company Cadeler has ordered two new X-class wind turbine installation vessels from China's COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry.The total order amounts to $651 million, so $325.5 million per vessel. Columbia Shipmanagement, Seatrans Form Ship Management JV

Columbia Shipmanagement (CSM) announced it has partnered with Norwegian ship owner and operator Seatrans AS to form a ship management joint venture.The company will be named Stödig Ship Management AS will become operational from the beginning of May 2021, operating out of Seatrans’ offices in Bergen, Norway. Chinese Fishing Vessel Runs Aground off Mauritius

CNOOC Seeks Replacements for Sanctioned COSCO LNG Tankers

China National Offshore Oil and Gas Company (CNOOC) is on the hunt for liquefied natural gas (LNG) tankers to charter, several industry sources told Reuters, looking to replace ships it had previously hired that are linked to a Chinese company sanctioned by the United States for allegedly transporting Iranian oil.The company, COSCO Shipping Tanker (Dalian), is one of four Chinese firms on which the Trump administration imposed sanctions on Sept. 25, in what it described as the biggest sanctions taken by the U.S.

Vietnam Scraps South China Sea Oil Drilling Project

Vietnam's state oil firm PetroVietnam has ordered Spanish energy firm Repsol to suspend its "Red Emperor" project off the country's southeastern coast following pressure from China, the BBC reported on Friday. It would be the second time in less than a year that Vietnam has had to cancel a major oil development in the South China Sea under pressure from China. The move comes as Repsol was making final preparations for commercial drilling. A rig, the Ensco 8504, was scheduled to depart from Singapore for the drill site on Thursday, the report said, citing an unnamed energy industry source. The cancellation could cost Repsol and its partners $200 million in sunk investment, according to the BBC. Repsol and PetroVietnam executives could not immediately be reached for comment.

Fourteen Missing after Chinese Dredger Capsizes off Malaysia

One person drowned while 14 others were missing after a Chinese sand-dredging vessel capsized off Malaysia's southern state of Johor on Wednesday (March 21), officials said.   Three Chinese crew members were rescued safely after authorities received reports that the JBB Rong Chang 8 had overturned in the waters of Parit Jawa, in Muar district, at 8.50 a.m. local time (0050 GMT), the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency said in a statement.   Search and rescue operations were ongoing, with two patrol boats deployed, the agency said.   The Chinese-owned, Dominican-registered dredger was carrying one Malaysian, an Indonesian and 16 Chinese crew members.    Source: Reuters

Singapore: Dredger Sank After Colliding with Tanker, 5 Missing

The divers have recovered two bodies out of the five missing crew of JBB DE RONG 19, following the collision between Indonesian-registered tanker KARTIKA SEGARA and Dominican-registered dredger JBB DE RONG 19 that occurred in Singapore territorial waters at about 12.40am (Singapore time) on 13 September 2017. At the point of collision this morning, 12 crew members were onboard JBB DE RONG 19. Seven were sent to the Singapore General Hospital, out of whom five have since been discharged. Search and rescue (SAR) efforts for the three remaining crew members are ongoing. The incident took place in the westbound lane of the Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS) in the Singapore Strait.

The Norwegian company Seatrans Ship Management has signed up 20 vessels to the DNV GL fleet performance management solution ECO Insight. The contract covers 13 chemical tankers and seven dry-cargo vessels. “We need to have full insight into the performance of our fleet and use this to continually improve our operations. Jinhui Sells Supramax

Jinhui Shipping and Transportation has agreed to sell another supramax dry bulk carrier, having just made a similar deal earlier this month. The purchaser is a company incorporated in Hong Kong. The bulk carrier will be delivered to the new owner between 29 July to 30 August 2016. The 2000-built, 50,236 dwt Jin Rong will be sold to China-based Ningbo Tiansheng Shipping for $3.4m, less than half of its book value, leading to a book loss of around $4.1m. "The Vessel has been owned by the Group since year  2006, and its net book value as at 31 March 2016 was US$7,475,000. Chinese Fishing Boat, Cargo Ship Collision Leaves 17 Missing

Seventeen people were missing after a Chinese fishing boat collided with a Maltese cargo ship and sank in the East China Sea on Saturday, state media reported, citing the country's coastguard fleet. The fishing boat, Lu Rong Yu 58398, had 19 people on board when the incident happened at 3.40 a.m. Beijing time (1940 GMT), the China News Service said, adding that two people had been rescued by passing fishing boats and a search and rescue operation was still underway. China National Radio said that it had hit Maltese cargo ship Catalina, a 40,485 ton bulk carrier, which has continued sailing. They did not specify where in the East China Sea the collision happened.

Sino-Global Purchases First Tanker

Sino-Global Shipping America, which was recently listed on Nasdaq, is becoming a shipowner. The shipping agency, logistics and ship management services company today announced that it has signed a Letter of Intent to acquire a small oil/chemical tanker from Rong Yao International Shipping Limited, a Hong Kong corporation. Sino-Global will issue 1.2 million shares of its common stock to the Rong Yao as partial payment of the vessel purchase price. The parties further agreed that such payment should be valued at $2.22 million, with each share of the company's common stock being valued at $1.85.

MAN Diesel & Turbo Signs License Agreement at SMM

MAN Diesel & Turbo has signed a four-stroke license agreement with Rong An Power Machinery, a Chinese marine engine manufacturer. Dr. Stephan Timmermann, Executive Board Member MAN Diesel & Turbo, and David Deng, President Rong An, signed the new agreement on behalf of their respective companies on 7 September 2010 in a ceremony at MAN Diesel & Turbo’s stand at the SMM international marine trade fair in Hamburg. Rong An previously signed a two-stroke license agreement with MAN Diesel & Turbo in September 2008.

Graig Wins Major Chinese Newbuilding Contract

Shanghai-based Graig China, part of the UK’s Graig group, has won a ten-ship order to supervise newbuildings for Chinese leasing company Minsheng Financial Leasing Co Ltd. The supervision contract brings to twenty-three the number of Chinese-owned vessels building in Chinese shipyards under the supervision of Graig. The new contract is to supervise the construction of ten 76,000 dwt bulk carriers to be built at Jiangsu Rong Sheng Heavy Industries Co Ltd, with delivery of the final vessel scheduled for the first quarter of 2012.

HHI Names World’s Largest Containership

The world’s largest containership was named at a ceremony held by builder Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (HHI) this week. The ship, named CSCL Globe, is the first of five 19,000 TEU containerships for China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL), and takes the title of world’s largest containership from Maersk Line’s 18,000 teu Triple E class vessels. Measuring 400 meters in length, 58.6 meters in width and 30.5 meters in depth, CSCL Globe is as large as four soccer fields. She will be deployed on the Asia-Europe trade loop after being handed over to the owner within this month.

China Launch Passenger RoRo Ship with Military Capability

China's largest RoRo 'Bohai Emerald Bead' with the longest reach leaves Yantai Port in East China. Different from ordinary ships, the 36,000 displacement civilian passenger and roll-on/roll-off ship was constructed in accordance with national defense requirements in mind in its design and construction so that it can carry organic troop units and heavy equipment. The 178-meter-long and 28-meter-breadth ship can carry 2,000-plus persons and be loaded with over 300 vehicles of various sizes simultaneously. The "Bohai Emerald Bead" is the first ship of its kind to be built in China, and there are three more of the same design under construction.

Sino-Global to Acquire Tanker

Sino-Global Shipping America, Ltd. a shipping agency, logistics and ship management services company, today announced that it has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (the "MOU"), between the Company and Rong Yao International Shipping Limited, a Hong Kong corporation (the "Vessel Seller") pursuant to which the Company has agreed to acquire a small oil/chemical tanker (the "Vessel") from the Vessel Seller. Pursuant to the terms of the MOU, the purchase price for the Vessel is RMB 65 million (or approximately US $10.5 million), which may be paid in any combination of cash, debt financing and/or the issuance of securities of the Company to the Vessel Seller, that the parties so agree to in the definitive purchase agreement.
