During World War I and World War II there were an estimated 7,500 merchant ships were sunk, 700 of which were carrying shipments of gold under U.K. Government direction, leaving an estimatd $194 billion in gold lying underwater. The Quest to Find and Explore USS Indianapolis

Sunk by Japanese torpedoes near the end of World War II, heavy cruiser USS Indianapolis disappeared to the darkest depths of the Philippine Sea, where it remained undiscovered for more than 70 years. Recently a team of civilian researchers led by Microsoft co-founder Paul G. Allen set out equipped with an arsenal of high-tech search equipment on a mission to locate the historic vessel last seen on July 30, 1945. ECO Affiliates Ink 5-Year Deal with Shell for IMR Vessel

Two affiliates of Louisiana-based Edison Chouest Offshore (ECO) have signed a five-year contract with Shell Brazil for light subsea construction, and inspection, maintenance and repair (IMR) services from the M/V Island Enforcer, a 402-ft. subsea installation and construction vessel. Olympic Pact with Canyon Offshore

Norwegian offshore shipping company Olympic Shipping has entered into a frame agreement with Canyon Offshore for the joint marketing and subsequent operation of the subsea construction vessel (SCV) Olympic Athene and Canyon’s ROV systems. Under the agreement the companies will work together to secure utilization for the vessel and ROV systems and services with third party clients. The framework agreement will operate initially for six months, with the potential to be evergreen thereafter. According to Olympic, the Olympic Athene has started its first job with a third party client in the U.S. Gulf under this agreement. Under this agreement, the Olympic Athene, formerly known as Olympic Boa, has already started its first job in the U.S. Gulf.

Tidewater Subsea Charters MV Brandon Bordelon

Tidewater Subsea has reached a deal with Bordelon Marine to charter the newly built Jones Act compliant MV Brandon Bordelon for 60 days, plus options. The vessel is intended to be available to work in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, Mexico and Trinidad, Bordelon Marine said. Tidewater Subsea is mobilizing two FMC Technologies Schilling HP 150 ROVs to the vessel. The Brandon is now fully capable to perform a variety of operations, including IMR (inspection, maintenance and repair), light construction, survey and inspection work.

Antarctica expedition benefits from a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) winch supplied by MacArtney Underwater Technology. An icebreaking polar supply and research vessel is to map out underwater conditions in the icy waters in terms of subsurface and marine life. The winch system, which was acquired through Swedish SubSea Solutions on the part of University of Gothenburg, will be put to good use on board South African icebreaking polar supply and research vessel S. A. Agulhas II designed to carry out scientific research and supply to South African research stations in Antarctica.

In November, 2015 Bordelon Marine takes delivery of the MV Brandon Bordelon. This highly specialized vessel features a helideck, a 60 ton AHC crane with 3000m of wire, POB (60), a mezzanine deck with internal office and control rooms capable of supporting two (2) full work class ROV systems. The vessel also offers 6,200 sq. ft. of clear useable deck space. The Brandon comes equipped with (2) two Ranger2 Pro thru-hull USBL full systems. Bordelon Marine has taken delivery of the M/V Shelia Bordelon, its next Stingray 260 DP2, Ultra-Light Intervention Vessel (ULIV). This highly specialized vessel features an NOV 50 ton Active Heave Compensating crane with 3,000 meters of wire, a mezzanine deck with internal office and control rooms, capable of supporting two full work class ROV systems. The M/V Shelia Bordelon offers 6,200 sq. ft. of clear useable deck space, POB of 60, and two independent thru-hull USBL systems.

Bibby Offshore’s Houston-based division, Bibby Subsea, welcomed the Olympic Ares, a multifunctional subsea construction support vessel (CSV) which is due to arrive in the port of Galveston on December 16, 2014. The 115-meter Olympic Ares features a 250-metric-ton heave compensated crane for subsea use to 3,000-meter water depth and 1,300-square-meter of clear back deck space. Ahead of arrival in Galveston, the Olympic Ares was recently installed with two SMD Quantum MkIII 250hp 3,000-meter rated Work Class ROVs.
