Marvel Falcon, a liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier owned by NYK, offered humanitarian assistance to four sailors requesting rescue on on May 13, said a press release from the company.   The LNG carrier had been sailing from the port of Balboa, Panama, to the Sabine Pass LNG terminal in the U.S. state of Louisiana when the small boat was spotted.   The rescued sailors had departed from Port Limon, Costa Rica, on May 7 to deliver fuel to another boat, but they experienced engine trouble on May 8 and had drifted at sea for the next few days.    The four sailors were in good health, and on May 18 they disembarked from Marvel Falcon at Sabine Pass to be processed by relevant authorities.

Cheniere Energy Partners has announced that Substantial Completion of Train 4 of the Sabine Pass liquefaction project in Cameron Parish, Louisiana (SPL Project) was achieved on October 9, 2017. Commissioning has been completed and Cheniere Partners' EPC partner Bechtel Oil, Gas and Chemicals has turned over care, custody, and control of Train 4 to Cheniere Partners. Under a sale and purchase agreement (SPA) with GAIL (India) Limited, the date of first commercial delivery for Train 4 of the SPL Project is expected to occur in March 2018, upon which the SPA's 20-year term commences. KOGAS to receive first LNG cargo from Cheniere in July; this marks start of 20-year supply contract. Korea Gas Corp (KOGAS) will early next month receive its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo under a long-term supply deal with U.S. exporter Cheniere Energy, two sources at the South Korean company said on Friday. The 74,000-tonne LNG cargo was loaded from Cheniere's Sabine Pass export terminal in Louisiana and is scheduled to arrive at the port of Tongyeong, South Korea on July 2, one of the sources said. Both sources declined to be identified. The 20-year supply deal, under which KOGAS will receive 2.8 million tonnes of the supercooled fuel per year from Cheniere, had long been expected to kick in this year, but its exact start time was not known in markets.

Japan's JERA Co said on Friday it imported the country's first liquefied shale gas cargo from the United States as part of efforts to diversify its supply. This also marks Japan's first import of liquefied natural gas (LNG) produced in the contiguous United States. Japan previously had imported U.S. LNG only from Alaska. JERA, a fuel joint venture between Tokyo Electric Power and Chubu Electric Power, said the vessel Oak Spirit, which passed through the Panama Canal, arrived at Chubu Electric's Joetsu LNG terminal facing the Sea of Japan on Friday. JERA is the world's biggest importer of LNG. The Tokyo-based firm bought the LNG from Cheniere Marketing International LLP. The 70,000-tonne cargo was produced at the Sabine Pass LNG Terminal in Louisiana and was loaded on Dec.

Japan's JERA Co, the world's biggest importer of liquefied natural gas (LNG), on Thursday said it made its first-ever purchase of LNG from the lower 48 U.S. states, as part of its goal to diversify supplies. JERA, a fuel joint venture between Tokyo Electric Power and Chubu Electric Power, said it bought the LNG from Cheniere Marketing International LLP, but did not give pricing details. Loading of shale gas produced at the Sabine Pass LNG Terminal in Louisiana onto LNG vessel Oak Spirit was completed on Wednesday, it added. Industry sources said this is likely to be Japan's first import of LNG from the project. The vessel, which will pass through the Panama Canal, will arrive at Chubu Electric's Joetsu LNG terminal in early January, a JERA spokesman said.

LNG shipowners will have to wait until 2018 for earnings to improve, when the majority of new US plants are expected to come online, according to the latest edition of the LNG Forecaster report published by global shipping consultancy Drewry. The first quarter of 2016 was no better than the previous quarter for LNG shipowners as spot rates remained low at around $30,000pd. Two new liquefaction plants, Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG) in Australia and Sabine Pass LNG in the US, began operations in the first quarter of 2016. But freight rates for LNG carriers remain low despite the new liquefaction trains coming online. The Sabine Pass liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal will ship its first cargo later than initially thought, according to an announcement by Cheniere Energy Partners LP. The Houston-based company now forecasts that its first shipment will not leave its Sabine Pass plant until late February or March 2016, a slip from a planned January departure. Construction of the first liquefaction train at the terminal was completed ahead of schedule, Cheniere said, but the firm said that new instrumentation issues discovered during commissioning will take several weeks to address. "We are now expecting the first cargo in late February or March," said Neal Shear, Interim President and CEO. Despite the delay, the Sabine Pass facility is slated to be the first in the lower 48 states to ship LNG overseas.

Buyers from China are looking at long term liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies from US firm Cheniere Energy, news agency Reuters quoted a company official as saying. This would be the first LNG deal between the world's two biggest energy users. Cheniere Energy is set to become the first U.S. LNG exporter, with shipments to start by the end of this year. However, no Chinese companies have signed up for any U.S. LNG cargoes so far. Nicolas Zanen, vice president for Asia at Cheniere Marketing Pte, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cheniere Energy Inc, said that some Chinese buyers had already begun moving to secure supplies, although without providing any details.

A smooth start to operations at BG Group's Australian project in Queensland is expected to help the British company to roughly double its liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies in 2015/16, it said on Wednesday. Seven cargoes have been shipped since December from the Queensland Curtis LNG facility, said Steve Hill, BG Group's head of global energy marketing and shipping.
