Seaspan Corporation said its first vessel in a series of 10 new 15,000 TEU liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel containerships has been launched at Samsung Heavy Industries' shipyard in Geoje, South Korea.The newbuild, ZIM Sammy Ofer, was floated out on October 15 and is scheduled to enter service under a long-term charter to Israeli shipping company ZIM starting in 2023.The 10 ships ships were ordered in February 2021 and are expected to be delivered in 2023 and 2024 and will be used by ZIM for transporting goods from China and South Korea to U.S.

Italian energy industry giant Eni said Monday it had held the naming and sail away ceremony for the Coral-Sul FLNG unit, the first floating LNG facility ever to be deployed in the deep waters of the African continent. The event took place at Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in Geoje, South Korea, in the presence of Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, President of the Republic of Mozambique, and H.E. Moon Jae-in, President of the Republic of Korea.The FLNG, which is part of the Coral South Project, will be now towed and moored at its operating site in the Rovuma basin offshore Mozambique.

Italian oilfield services giant Saipem has chartered a newbuild drillship directly from South Korea's Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard.Saipem expects the drillship - named Samsung Santorini - to be delivered in November 2021, when the Italian firm will take the 7th generation rig on a two-year charter. BP's behemoth Argos offshore oil platform, the centerpiece of the company's $9 billion Mad Dog 2 project in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, has arrived in the U.S. after a 16,000-mile journey from South Korea.The platform, loaded onboard Boskalis' BOKA Vanguard heavy transport vessel, had left South Korea on February 3, and it has this week arrived in the Kiewit Offshore Services fabrication yard in Ingleside, Texas."The arrival of the new floating production unit is a major milestone towards the completion of Mad Dog 2.

Malaysian oil and gas company Petronas named its second floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility, the PFLNG Dua, in a ceremony in Geoje, South Korea.The floating LNG facility is designed to extract gas from deepwater gas reservoirs in depths up to 1,500 meters.With PFLNG Dua, the national oil and gas company of Malaysia owns and operates two floating LNG facilities, following the success of PFLNG Satu which has been in operation since 2017. This achievement demonstrates Petronas’ strong position in the LNG industry leading the way in innovative solutions to ensure a reliable and secure supply of LNG to meet the growing demand for cleaner energy.

Danish tanker owner and operator Maersk Tankers held a naming ceremony for Maersk Curacao, its eighth MR unit being delivered by Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI)."SHA122 becomes Maersk Curacao: Our latest newbuilding received its name during a traditional naming ceremony at Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in Ningo, China," said a Twitter message from Maersk Tankers."Maersk Curacao is number 18 out of 19 MR newbuildings and will be delivered to our fleet in the near future," it added.Like the sister ship Maersk Crete, which was officially named on July 24, Maersk Curacao flies the Singaporean flag and has a capacity of 52,914 cbm. This is the third Samsung-built MR2 to be delivered to Maersk Tankers this year.The final vessel is scheduled for delivery in 2020.

Taiwanese shipping line Evergreen has confirmed its plans to build a total of ten 23,000 TEU containerships.According to a stock exchange filing, the new vessels would be built at three shipyards  in South Korea and China.According to the reports from the South China Morning Post, the enormous order will cost Evergreen anywhere between US$1.4 billion and US$1.6 billion. Ocean Yield has agreed to acquire two 2015 built 37,000 dwt IMO II chemical tankers with 12-year bareboat charters to companies owned and guaranteed by Ardmore Shipping Corporation. The aggregate purchase price is approximately USD 51 million net of pre-paid charter-hire.The ship owning company with investments in vessels on long -term charters also announced that it has today taken delivery of the newbuilding suezmax crude tanker Nordic Tellus from Samsung Heavy Industries' shipyard in South Korea.The vessels Ocean Yield acquired from Ardmore Shipping Corporation are both built by Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in South Korea and are expected to be delivered to the Company during Q4 2018.

Orient Overseas International (OOI) has announced a profit attributable to equity holders for 2017 of US$137.7 million, compared to a loss of US$219.2 million in 2016. Earnings per ordinary share in 2017 was US22.0 cents, whereas loss per ordinary share in 2016 was US35.0 cents. The Chairman of OOIL, C C Tung, said, “The economic backdrop for 2017 was more robust than forecasters had expected. Following a decade of low growth, we saw healthier performance in both GDP and trade volumes across most of the world’s major economies. “This synchronicity of growth, a rare phenomenon in recent memory, may bode well for the sustainability of the recovery,” noted Tung. “However, growth on the supply side continues across the trade lanes.

Wärtsilä will supply its Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) recovery technology, LNG fuel gas handling systems and the auxiliary engines for two new shuttle tankers being built for Singapore based AET Tankers at the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in South Korea. The order, worth in total more than $37 million, was booked in January 2018. The ships will operate on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) as the primary fuel, but VOC – the gas evaporating from the oil cargo tanks – will also be utilised as fuel by mixing it with the LNG, thereby reducing the vessels’ bunkering needs. This is made possible by Wärtsilä’s VOC recovery system, which by combining the VOC with the LNG, provides the potential for savings of over 3000 tons of fuel each year per vessel.

Maersk Drilling USA is laying off 84 employees who work aboard the Maersk Viking (UDW drillship), located in the Gulf of Mexico, and report directly to the company’s office in Houston, Houston Chronicle reported quoting data sent to the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). The employees, who received notification of the layoffs on Jan. 12, report to the company's office at 2500 CityWest Boulevard. They will continue to work for the next two months until their employment is terminated, according to the WARN notice. The termination will likely be permanent unless the company secures a new contract for the Viking. The Maersk Viking drillship was delivered to Maersk Drilling in February 2014 by Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in Geoje-Si, South Korea.

Norway's Framo AS said it has won a contract to deliver pump systems (sea water lift pumps) for a Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) for the ship owner GasLog at the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard. Delivery of the systems is scheduled for August 2018. Recetnly Framo has signed a contract with Höegh LNG for the delivery of pumping systems to their new FSRU. The contract is for one unit, with option for three more units which are currently being built at Samsung Heavy Industries in Korea. Framo said its pumps provide significant savings on space and eliminate the need for a separate pump room onboard the ship.

OOCL celebrated the christening of Hull H2173, a 21,413 TEU newbuilding constructed at the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard on Geoje Island. Named as OOCL Germany, this mega containership is the second of the six 21 thousand TEU class vessels on order at the shipyard and they are an important part to enhancing the competitiveness and efficiency of our modern fleet. As with many of our newbuildings, extra efforts have been made to ensure that they are operationally efficient and meeting the highest environmental standards. In fact, the OOCL Germany, and her sister vessels, are designed with many advanced green features that can help meet future environmental requirements.

A crane has collapsed at Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in South Korea, killing six workers and injuring 22, reports Reuters. The South Korean shipbuilder quoted as saying that rescuers are searching for people trapped under debris after the 32-tonne crane fell on a ship at its shipyard on Geoje island. The incident took place during the construction of an oil platform for French energy company Total's Martin Linge field off Norway. The company said the crane collided with another crane before it collapsed onto the ship. All of those killed were workers hired by various subcontractors at Samsung. A spokesman for Total's Norwegian subsidiary said that it was too early to say what would be the consequences for delivering the platform.

Five people died and about 20 were injured when a crane collapsed at a Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in South Korea during construction of an oil platform for French energy company Total, the two companies said on Monday.   The yard in Geoje is building the platform for Total's Martin Linge field off Norway.   Total's Norwegian subsidiary said none of its employees were among the killed or injured in the accident which took place at 0745 CET (0545 GMT).   Reporting by Nerijus Adomaitis

Teekay Offshore will be the sole supplier and operator of shuttle tankers sfor East Coast Canada(ECC), says Teekay Corporation. On February 15, the keel laying ceremony for Teekay’s first shuttle tanker newbuilding for ECC took place at the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in Korea. This milestone marks the end of the block building period as well as the beginning of the next phase – to complete the newbuilding with all its systems. The shuttle tanker, the Beothuk Spirit, is expected to be delivered in August of 2017. This shuttle tanker is the first of three newbuildings to be provided for loading crude at Hibernia, Terra Nova, White Rose and Hebron offshore oil fields located in St. John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador.

Construction has begun on a new series comprising six Arctic shuttle oil carriers (project 42K Arctic Shuttle Tanker) in South Korea. The steel cutting ceremony for the first ship was held on April 1, 2015 at Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in the presence of the representatives of PAO Sovcomflot, Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) and Lloyd`s Register (LR). The series is constructed to dual RS and LR class. RS class notation: KM Arc7 AUT1-ICS OMBO LI CCO ECO-S BWM BLS-SPM Oil tanker (ESP) CSR. The new tankers are designed to complete a set of tasks of hydrocarbons transportation from Novoportovskoye field. It is planned to put the first ship into operation in June 2016.

The largest piece of the turret for Shell’s Prelude Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) facility has set sail from Dubai for the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in Geoje, South Korea, where the facility is under construction, informs Shell. The turret is part of a mooring system designed to ensure Prelude FLNG can operate safely in the most extreme weather conditions. At almost 100 metres high, it is the largest in the world. The turret will run through the front of the facility and connect to giant chains that will keep it moored securely over the Prelude gas field. The turret mooring system will allow the facility to turn slowly in the wind and with currents – ensuring it can remain safely at its location through the most powerful cyclones.

Cyprus-based Ocean Rig UDW Inc said on Monday that it signed a $1.1 billion three-year contract with Brazil's state-run oil company, Petroleo Brasileiro SA, to extend a lease on two ultra-deepwater drilling ships. Petrobras, as the Brazilian oil company is known, will get the ships, the Ocean Rig Corcovado and Ocean Rig Mykonos, for 1,095 days, Ocean Rig said in a statement. The period and price translate into an average rate for each of the vessels of $502,283 per day. The Corcovado was expected to earn an average day rate of $464,800 and Mykonos $459,700 in the second half of 2014, according to Ocean Rig's second-quarter financial statements. Ultra-deep water is considered water deeper than 1,500 meters (4,921 feet).

Seajacks Scylla, touted as the world's largest and most advanced wind farm installation and offshore construction vessel, has been delivered by the Samsung Heavy Industries Shipyard in Geoje, Republic of Korea. Based on the Gusto MSC NG14000X design, the ABS-classed Seajacks Scylla, has more than 8,000 metric tons of available variable deck load. Equipped with a 1,540-metric-ton leg-encircling crane and a usable deck space in excess of 5,000 square meters the unit is outfitted with 105-meter legs with the ability to install components in water depths to 65 meters.
