Esgian Week 14 Report: Major Jackup Contract Suspensions

Esgian reports various drilling contractors disclosing details of discussions with Saudi Aramco regarding jackup contract suspensions in its Week 14 Rig Analytics Market Roundup. Petrobras Awards $130M Charter Extension for Sapura Esmeralda PLSV

Malaysia's Sapura Energy has, through a joint venture company, secured a charter extension with Brazil's Petrobras for the pipelaying support vessel (“PLSV”) Sapura Esmeralda. The contract is worth around RM580 million (around $130 million). The contract was awarded to Sapura Navegação Marítima S.A., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Seabras Sapura Participações S.A., a joint venture company between Sapura Offshore Sdn. Bhd. and Seabras Serviços De Petroleo S.A.The contract scope of work includes the provision of services and charter of installation and recovery of flexible pipes in the Brazilian waters in a maximum water depth of 2,500 meters.

Keppel Terminates Semi-sub Rig, Jack-up Rig, and Liftboat Orders as Clients Fail to Pay Up

Singapore-based shipbuilder Keppel has terminated three construction contracts signed years ago, citing clients' failure to pay up. The terminated contracts are related to orders made by TS Offshore, Sapura Energy, and Crystal Heights. TS Offshore, in March 2014, ordered a 500 feet water depth N Plus jack-up rig, worth about US$500 million (“TS Jasper Vessel”). In January 2014, Keppel also secured an order for the Sapura Raiqa Semi-Submersible Self-Erecting TAD Rig, and in July 2015, Crystal Heights ordered a high-specification liftboat worth around $85 million.

Operation Car Wash: Seadrill Served with Search and Seizure Warrant in Brazil

Offshore drilling contractor Seadrill said Thursday its Brazilian subsidiary had been served with a search and seizure warrant in relation to a bribery investigation."Seadrill Limited confirms that today its subsidiary Seadrill Serviços de Petroleo, Ltda was served with a search and seizure warrant from the Federal Police in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil as part of the latest phase of Operation Car Wash."Operation Car Wash is a years-long corruption investigation by the Brazilian Federal Police that covers, among others, allegations that some Petrobras executives have been taking bribes to award contracts to service providers."Seadrill is cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation," the company said.

Market Report: Global Heavy Lift Vessel Sector

The global heavy lift vessel market is a difficult place to be. Utilization for the fleet has remained depressingly low since the first oil and gas downturn in 2014, currently hovering around 33% for the global fleet with a lift capacity of over 800 tonnes, according to IHS Markit’s ConstructionVesselBase. Fixed platform installation work, the traditional market driver for the heavy-lift fleet in oil and gas, has seen demand fall significantly. According to global figures from IHS Markit’s FieldsBase, 190 fixed platforms were installed in both 2013 and 2014, rising to 219 in 2015.

Wärtsilä to Optimize PLSVs of Sapura Brasil

Subsea services specialist Sapura Brazil has signed a five-year optimized maintenance agreement with Wärtsilä.As per the agreement the the Finnish tech major will support Sapura’s fleet of six pipe-laying support vessels' (PLSV) operational performance and increase both its efficiency and reliability by accurately predicting maintenance requirements. Sapura Energy Bags Multiple Contracts

Malaysia’s oilfield services player Sapura Energy said it has has clinched contracts worth a total of MYR 1 billion ($242 million) for several new oil patch deals and one – the company’s first – offshore wind contract.The 10 new contracts are for its engineering and construction and drilling segments across Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan and Australia, said a press release from the company.In addition, the company has been selected for a frame agreement with Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) for fixed offshore structure works, the company said in a statement today.Regarding the first offshore wind farm contract, the statement said, "Sapura Offshore Sdn Bhd (Sapura Offshore) has been awarded a contract by Yunneng Wind Power Co. Sapura Bags Five Contracts

Malaysian integrated oil and gas services company Sapura Energy Berhad has been awarded five new contracts valued at approximately RM1.3 billion ($US311 million).All five contracts have been awarded to the Sapura’s wholly owned subsidiaries, with works to take place in Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia and the Gulf of Suez."The contract wins demonstrate Sapura Energy’s continued pursuit to deepen its presence in existing core markets, break into new markets and expand its scope of services," said a press release.The growing orderbook is expected to increase asset utilisation for the Group and contribute to improving its financial performance.

Asia's oil and gas producers are starting to revive projects aimed at deflating years of ballooning energy imports after new investment dried up following the 2014 industry crisis. Royal IHC Launches Pipelay Vessel Sapura Rubi

Royal IHC has named and launched the pipelaying vessel, Sapura Rubi, in a ceremony at the company’s shipyard in Krimpen aan den IJssel, The Netherlands. The naming of the fully integrated vessel was performed by  Glaucia Maciel, Human Resource Manager of Sapura Navegação Marítima S.A. The Sapura Rubi is the fifth 550t pipelaying vessel that IHC is supplying to Sapura Navegação Marítima, a joint venture between SapuraKencana and Seadrill. All five vessels are being completely designed, engineered and built by IHC.

Netherlands-based Royal IHC today named and launched new pipelaying sister vessels, Sapura Jade and Sapura Ônix, in ceremonies at the company’s shipyard in Krimpen aan den IJssel, The Netherlands. Sapura Jade’s naming was performed by Belle de Bruin, managing director of the Indofin Group, following the naming of Sapura Ônix by Dahlia Abdul Aziz, spouse of Alex Monsen, JV board member and VP of newbuild/senior vice president of Seadrill. The Sapura Jade was ordered by Sapura Navegação Marítima, a joint venture between SapuraKencana and Seadrill.

Royal IHC acquires SAS Offshore

Royal IHC has acquired SAS Offshore, which is based in Alphen aan den Rijn, The Netherlands. SAS Offshore is specialised in designing and manufacturing high quality deck equipment for the offshore oil and gas market. This acquisition enables IHC to further secure its position as a supplier of reliable integrated offshore systems and integrated vessels in this sector. SAS Offshore was originally founded in 1896 in Gouda and it has a long track record in delivering pipelaying systems and winches, including ancillary equipment and services. The company also holds a minority shareholding in the Norwegian engineering and service company AXTech, and this stake has also been taken over by IHC.

Petrobras Sets Record in Brazil

Consolidated Oil and Gas Petrobras in Brazil and abroad, production amounted to 2 million 795 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe) in October. This volume was 0.5% higher than in September, which was 2 million 781 thousand boe. Oil production in Brazil grew by 0.4% compared to September, and reaches a new high. Oil production from Petrobras in Brazil reached in October average of 2 million 126 thousand barrels / day (bpd), 0.4% higher than what occurred in September, 2 million 118 thousand bpd. This volume represents a new record, surpassing the previous high, reached in December 2010 at 4800 bpd. October was the ninth consecutive month of growth in oil production company in the country.

Kongsberg Maritime inform it has been contracted to deliver substantial technology packages for ten new pipelaying vessels ordered by Brazilian multinational energy corporation, Petrobras. In contracts valued approx. NOK 118 Million, the scope of supply includes Kongsberg Maritime's leading offshore vessel technology including Dynamic Positioning (DP), position reference systems, propulsion control and automation. Six 550-tonne laying tension capacity pipelayers will be built at IHC Merwede in The Netherlands for delivery in 2015 and 2016.

Kongsberg to Equip 10 Newbuild Pipelayers

Kongsberg Maritime has been chosen to deliver substantial technology packages for ten new pipelaying vessels ordered by Brazilian multinational energy corporation, Petrobras. In contracts valued approx. NOK 118 Million, the scope of supply includes Kongsberg Maritime’s offshore vessel technology including Dynamic Positioning (DP), position reference systems, propulsion control and automation. Six 550-tonne laying tension capacity pipelayers will be built at IHC Merwede in The Netherlands for delivery in 2015 and 2016. Three of the vessels, for Subsea 7, are identical designs to the recently launched ‘Seven Waves’, and will feature the same K-POS DP22 dual redundant DP system including HiPAP acoustic positioning system and other position reference systems from Kongsberg Maritime.
