Senesco To Build Another 80,000-Barrel, Double-Hulled Barge

Massachusetts-based Sea Boats, Inc. hulled barge. underway and is expected to be complete by April of 2004. double-hulled barge built by Senesco Marine. barge built, and fast. New design features include a raised trunk that will be smooth on the outside. easier task for tugboats. this vessel is safer and easier to maintain as a result of these design changes. Senesco Marine is already 6 weeks ahead of schedule.

Tidewater Sells North Sea Boats

Tidewater Inc. will sell its North Sea safety-standby boats to BUE Marine Limited of Edinburgh, Scotland. The $40 million all-cash deal is expected to close by late June. The 28 safety-standby boats were obtained by Tidewater as part of earlier acquisitions. This type of rescue vessel is required for oil and gas entities operating in the North Sea.

Kirby Expands With Three New Units

Kirby Corporation Announces Purchase of Three Coastwise Tank Barge and Tug Units; Purchased Seaboats, Inc. coastwise tank barge fleet consisting of three 80,000 barrel tank barge and tug units for $42.3 million in cash. Kirby Corporation has announced the purchase of the coastwise tank barge fleet of Seaboats, Inc. and affiliated companies consisting of three 80,000 barrel coastwise tank barge and tug units for $42.3 million in cash. The three coastwise tank barge and tug units currently operate along the East Coast and have an average age of five years. Financing of the purchase was through Kirby's $250 million revolving credit facility.

Liverpool City Region (UK) based ship engine specialist James Troop & Co has won an order to supply Volvo Penta diesel engines for three European naval vessels being built on Merseyside. James Troop, one of the UK’s major Volvo Penta Centers, will supply the engines for three vessels being constructed by Marine Specialized Technology Ltd (MST), of Liverpool, which is the global leader for building Rigid Hulled Inflatable Boats (RHIB) and High Speed Workboats for the military and commercial markets.

Type 45 destroyer HMS Dragon rescues 14 stricken sailors from damaged British racing yacht. "The crew of Dragon have rescued 14 sailors in treacherous weather conditions today after a racing yacht suffered damage in the Atlantic ocean," says a statement from Royal Navy. HMS Dragon was diverted 500 miles away from a routine tasking to provide life-saving assistance to the crew of the 60ft Clyde Challenger racing yacht. The yacht had left the Azores on 5 February 2017 and was bound for the UK when it suffered significant damage following days of strong winds and heavy seas.

Repair Feature: SENESCO Becomes Senesco Marine

The Southeastern New England Shipbuilding Corporation (SENESCO) has capped years of progress and strong growth with a change in name and investment in the future. The company formally changed its name to Senesco Marine, and to prove that the metamorphosis is much more than skin-deep, has instituted a sweeping new design and build process to enhance the speed with which the company can design, build and deliver barges. New CEO Gary C. Schuler said "Our most recent double hulled barge was built for a west coast customer and we continue to see increased activity out of our New Orleans office. Schuler touted the company's new partnership with Guarino & Cox, a respected naval architecture firms.

Royal Navy warship HMS Argyll has seized £21 million worth of cocaine after a 12-hour pursuit across the Caribbean, informs the Ministry of Defence. Sailors then transferred the cocaine to a US Coast Guard vessel. After receiving information that a suspicious-looking vessel had been spotted by a maritime patrol aircraft, HMS Argyll, which is on counter-narcotics operations in the region, deployed to intercept it. Argyll’s Lynx helicopter confirmed the vessel was acting in a way typical of being operated by drug smugglers, and her sea boats were sent across to capture the crew and contraband.

Royal Australian Navy patrol boat HMAS Wollongong has made a mercy dash to embark two injured Australians who were rescued by an Indonesian merchant vessel in the Arafura Sea. An Indonesian registered civilian offshore supply ship, MV POSH Shearwater, initially responded to a vessel in distress call and rescued the two men from their sinking craft on 14 May. The transfer from the POSH Shearwater was made using a winchable Paraguard Stretcher onto Wollongong’s sea boat, which then brought the injured sailors to the patrol boat.

Lobster Boat Catamaran for Canadian Fisherman

Yarmouth Nova Scotia lobster fisherman Steve Corkum of Yarmouth Sea Products owned a catamaran lobster boat a few years ago. He liked the concept but sold the boat to an Icelandic fisherman. Now he is taking delivery of his second catamaran from A.F. Theraiult & Sons of Meteghan River, in southern Nova Scotia. The boat is built to a design by the yard’s in-house naval architect Stephane Bertrand. "The catamaran design will give me speed with the ability to carry all my traps and an excellent sea boat," says Corkum who owns a dozen other lobster boats and draggers. The 45x23-foot aluminum vessel is capable of transporting all 375 of the 48x24x16-inch regulation traps allowed in the Canadian fishery.

Along For the Ride on Leeuwin

Early in January HMAS Leeuwin set sail from Cairns to begin a transit to conduct military data gathering operations in the Bass Strait. A number of Australian Navy Cadets and family members for ship's company joined the ship for the first day of the deployment. The visitors were treated to a precise navigation pilotage from HMAS Cairns, through the Cairns channel and out to sea. Once the ship had made it to sea a man overboard drill was undertaken with the 'man' recovered by the ship’s seaboat…

Australia Announces Patrol Boat Tender

The Australian Government announced a Request for Tender (RFT) to replace the Pacific Patrol Boats under the Pacific Maritime Security Program, Project SEA3036 Phase 1. The project involves the construction in Australia of up to 21 steel-hulled replacement patrol vessels, representing an investment in the nation’s defense industry with the Australian-made patrol boats worth $594 million in addition to through life sustainment and personnel costs estimated at $1.38 billion over 30 years.

Oil and Gas Extraction at an Ocean Depth of 3,000 Meters

The family of offshore vessels also includes so-called offshore construction vessels. The latter are multi-purpose ships for the oil and gas industry used for the installation of ever more complex platforms and extraction systems, as well as for the laying of pipelines. OCVs are in service in all oceans of the world and equipped for long-term operation on the high seas. The OCV currently under construction can accommodate more than 120 crew members. For Voith Turbo Schneider Propulsion, the new vessel represents another engineering feat, because it is the largest and most powerful ship ever fitted with Voith Schneider Propellers (VSP) as main propulsion systems. Three VSP are installed in the stern, and two in the bow – all five of them type VSP 36R6 EC/280-2.

But now a maritime firm in that city has a new tug building at Thoma-Sea Boat Builders in Houma Louisiana.The model bow tug, essentially a sister ship to one delivered last January, is a 3400 HP ocean-going tug, 100 by 32 feet with a molded depth of 13 feet 9 inches. Designed by Frank Basil's Entech and Associates of Houma LA the boat will be powered by a pair of 16-cylinder Cummins KTA50 main engines rated for 1700 HP at 1800 RPM. The engines will turn into Rentjes WAF-772 gears with rations of 7.087:1 and turning 87-inch Sound propellers in 88-inch Rice nozzles. The boat is designed for a bollard pull of 60 tons. Accommodations will be provided for up to eight people.

UK Royal Navy Fights Piracy

The UK Royal Navy’s HMS Cumberland whilst conducting routine Maritime Security Operations in the Gulf of Aden on the 11 November had course to board a Yemeni flagged dhow, towing a skiff which they had reason to believe had been involved in an attack on the Danish-registered MV Powerful earlier in the day. Various non-forcible methods had been used in an attempt to stop the dhow but they were unsuccessful. Sea boats were launched to circle the dhow in an attempt to encourage it to stop – these boats were fired at from the dhow and the crews returned fire in self defence.

GSL Launches Two and Commissions One

According to reports, Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) has launched two vessels and commissioned one all on a single day. All three vessels have been designed and built by GSL for the Indian Coast Guard. The two vessels launched include an Extra Fast Patrol Vessel (XFPV) and an Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessel (AOPV). The 105 metre long AOPV will be the biggest vessel ever built for Indian Coast Guard. The XFPV will be the fifth in the series built by GSL. The commissioning of XFPV Coast Guard Ship Subhadra Kumari Chauhan was held at MPT jetty in Vasco. The 266 ton vessel is 50 meters long and is primarily designed for patrolling, anti-smuggling and anti-terrorist operations.

SENESCO Signs $6.5 Million Barge Building Contract

Southeastern New England Shipbuilding Corporation (SENESCO), North Kingstown, R.I., has penned a contract with Barges Unlimited of Fall River, Mass. to construct an 80,000-barrel, 320-ft. (97.5 m) double hull barge valued at more than $6.5 million. Per the agreement, SENESCO will manufacture the largest double hull barge ever constructed in the Northeast. Work is expected to commence immediately and is expected to take up to one year for completion, at which time it will be utilized by Seaboats for transportation and delivery of light oil products.

Repowering a Head Boat With Cummins QSK19s

The years just prior to the early 1980s collapse in the Gulf of Mexico oil industry saw the building of a large number of crew boats in the 110-ft. range. While a number of these boats remain in the Gulf, many have found their way to other coasts and other applications. In Charleston, S.C., Stuart Reeves has converted two of the vintage vessels to "head boats" to take groups of sport fishermen out into the Atlantic Ocean for 11-hour trips. The converted boats are certified for up to 154 passengers at distances more than 100 miles offshore. "These boats are well suited to the conversion," Reeves explains, "They are good sea boats with a low centre of gravity and they are already certified for passengers. But the conversion leads to a shift in a vessel's power-to-weight ratio.

Graham Oil Services Expands Boat Fleet

Boconco Shipbuilding's offices on Bayou LaBatre's Shell Belt Road are surrounded by prefabricated steel components for several utility boats building at the yard. A series of 126 by 30 by 12-foot boats are being built for delivery to Barry Graham Oil Services also of Bayou LaBatre. Alabama. The sister-ship was delivered two years ago with the others to be delivered at regular intervals over the coming year. The first of this set of boats launched on the high water Thursday evening January 23 and will be named the Capt. Levert in honour of Barry Graham's 87-year old maternal grandfather. Capt. Levert Seaman had a 100-ton license and has worked most types of boats along the Gulf Coast…

Attack on Saudi Oil Tanker Thwarted

The Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen said on Wednesday it had thwarted an attack on a Saudi oil tanker over the weekend by Houthi fighters near the Red Sea port of Hodeidah. The coalition destroyed a boat carrying explosives as it headed towards the tanker on Saturday, coalition spokesman Colonel Turki al-Maliki said. Yemen lies on the southern mouth of the Red Sea, one of the world's most important trade routes for oil tankers, which pass Yemen’s shores while heading from the Middle East through the Suez Canal to Europe.

SENESCO Signs Contract, Launches Barge for Cancer Awareness Program

Southeastern New England Shipbuilding Corporation (SENESCO) of North Kingstown, R.I., signed a major contract with Barges Unlimited, a subsidiary of Seaboats, Inc., of Fall River, Mass., to build an 80,000-bbl, 320-ft. double hull barge. The contract value is in excess of $6.5 million. With this contract signing, SENESCO will manufacture the largest double-hull barge ever constructed in the northeastern U.S. Work on the project is expected to take up to one year to complete. When finished, the barge will be used by Seaboats for the transportation and delivery of light oil products. SENESCO currently employs 110 people. However, with the addition of this contract and other business, the shipyard expects to add 40 to 50 new skilled workers to the staff.

Indonesia's North Sea Boats Ltd launch one of the most innovative warships in the world. Measuring 63m in overall length, the vessel will be named KRI Klewang - after a traditional Indonesian single edged sword. It combines a number of existing advanced technologies into a single, unique platform; a wave-piercer trimaran hull form, constructed exclusively of infused vinylester carbon fibre cored sandwich materials for all structural elements, with external “Stealth” geometry and features intended to reduce detection.
