Seabourn Ovation Completes Sea Trials

Seabourn Cruise Line's newest ultra-luxury vessel, Seabourn Ovation, achieved another important maritime milestone with the completion of its final round of sea trials in the Mediterranean off the coast of Italy. Seabourn Ovation departed the Fincantieri shipyard on March 14 for four days at sea, where a team of officers and engineers tested the ship's technical and mechanical systems. Seabourn Ovation returned to the shipyard in Genoa on March 18, and staff and workers are putting the final touches on the ship. The delivery ceremony of the ship is on schedule to take place on April 27, 2018. "We're now weeks away from delivery, and I'm very pleased with the progress and preparedness of the ship now that sea trials are complete," said Richard Meadows, president of Seabourn.

Fincantieri Launches New Cruise Ship for Seabourn

The second cruise ship in a newbuild series for Seabourn Cruise Line has been launched by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri at its shipyard in Sestri, Genoa. Seabourn Ovation is due to join the fleet of Carnival Corporation brand Seabourn Cruise Line in spring 2018, following on the delivery of sister ship, Seabourn Encore, at the end of 2016 from Fincantieri’s Marghera, Venice yard. Seabourn Ovation will be 40,350 gross tons, 210 meters long and 28 meters wide and will be able to reach a cruising speed of 18.6 knots. It will carry up to just 600 guests, based on double occupancy.

Fincantieri Lays Keel for Seabourn Ovation

The keel laying ceremony of "Seabourn Ovation", the second of two ultra-luxury cruise ships that Fincantieri is building for Seabourn Cruise Line, brand of Carnival Corporation, took place today, in the presence of the Italian Minister of Defence Roberta Pinotti, at the Sestri Ponente (Genoa) shipyard. The ceremony was attended, among others, for the ship owner by Captain Stig Betten, while Fincantieri was represented by the General Manager Alberto Maestrini. “Seabourn Ovation”, due to join the Seabourn fleet in spring 2018, will feature modern design elements and innovations and will be built according to the standards and cutting-edge technical solutions that make Seabourn one of the most prestigious brands in the ultra-luxury segment, continuing the fleet modernization started in 2009.

Cruiseport Boston Closes Out 2016 Cruise Season

As Cruiseport Boston closes out its successful 2016 season, 2017 is already shaping up to be a record year with 151 calls scheduled for next cruise season. The 2016 season saw 115 calls by a record 32 unique ships with ten maiden calls to the port, including Royal Caribbean International’s Anthem of the Seas, the largest cruise ship to ever call the Port of Boston. Cruiseport Boston has seen years of steady growth which has contributed to the booming cruise business in Boston.

Wärtsilä Propulsion for Seabourn Cruise Vessels

Two new cruise vessels being built for USA based Seabourn Cruise Line will feature a broad assortment of Wärtsilä propulsion, electrical and automation solutions. The ships are to be built at the Fincantieri yard in Italy. The 'Seabourn Encore' is already under construction and the 'Seabourn Ovation' is scheduled to join the Seabourn fleet in 2018. The contracts with Wärtsilä for the vessels' navigation and automation systems were signed in December 2015. The engine orders were signed in late 2014 and in the third quarter of 2015. The comprehensive range of Wärtsilä navigation, automation and sensor systems to be installed on these vessels includes the Wärtsilä Nacos Platinum and Wärtsilä Valmatic Platinum systems.

RINA: Energy, Marine Propel Growth

International testing, inspection, certification and consulting engineering group RINA reports it has grown strongly during 2014, propelled by an upturn in marine, acquisition in the energy sector and international diversification. Turnover for 2014 grew 13 percent to Euro 333 million. EBITDA (adjusted) grew to Euro 37.7 million. Ugo Salerno, Chairman and CEO of RINA S.p.A., said, “2014 was an important year for RINA. A relatively active past week in the dry bulk newbuilding market is noted by Clarkson Hellas in their S&P Weekly Bulletin. Oldendorff Carriers have contracted two firm plus two option 208,000 DWT Newcastlemax at Hantong Shipyard, with delivery of all four vessels in 2016. Marioff has signed a five-year frame agreement for maintenance services with Carnival Corporation & plc. The agreement covers servicing and maintaining HI-FOG water mist fire suppression systems already installed onboard 66 cruise vessels owned by Carnival Corporation and operating under Carnival Cruise Lines, Holland America Line N.V., Seabourn Cruise Line Ltd., Cunard Line, Carnival Australia, P&O Cruises, Princess Cruise Lines Ltd and AIDA Cruises brands. Conover Voted WISTA Personality of the Year

Pamela C. Conover, who has taken leadership roles at three major cruise lines, has been voted Personality of the Year 2009 by the Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association. The decision was announced at the 2009 conference of WISTA, taking place at IMO headquarters in London from September 16-18. Pam Conover is president and chief executive of Seabourn Cruise Line, a luxury cruise subsidiary of the Carnival group. The special WISTA accolade recognises an outstanding personal contribution to the maritime industry.

RCCL Names Pimentel President & CEO

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (RCCL) has announced the appointment of Larry Pimentel to the newly created position of president and chief executive officer of Azamara Cruises. Pimentel will have responsibility for the strategic direction and leadership of the deluxe brand to ensure its continuous growth and success. He will report directly to Richard D. Fain, chairman and chief executive officer of RCCL. Pimentel has more than 25 years of travel industry experience catering to the high-end consumer. Natansohn Named Seabourn President

Deborah L. Natansohn has been named president of Seabourn Cruise Line. A well-known industry veteran, Natansohn most recently was senior vice president of sales and marketing for Cunard Line Ltd., where she spearheaded the launch of the celebrated Queen Mary 2 and the rebranding of the venerable line. Natansohn's appointment is part of a corporate restructuring in which the ultra luxury, all-suite Yachts of Seabourn will operate as an independent brand within the Carnival Corporation. Previously, Seabourn shared back-office functions with sister brand, Cunard Line, which is relocating to Valencia, California. Seabourn will remain based in Miami. Port Everglades Beats Cruise Passenger Record

Broward County’s Port Everglades is experiencing record cruise passenger growth in 2004 and just nine months into the current fiscal year already surpassed 2003’s total number of passengers. Just one month later, the South Florida cruise port powered past its all-time annual high mark, which was set in 2002. By the end of this year, Port Everglades expects to top the four million annual passenger milestone for the first time. “Broward County has become the hub of the cruise industry and this year’s phenomenal passenger growth demonstrates that Port Everglades’ appeal continues to grow,” said Ken Krauter, Port Director. In June, just nine months into the current fiscal year, Port Everglades hosted 3,409,116 cruise passengers, surpassing last year’s 12-month total of 3,375,671 passengers.

Queen Mary 2: Cunard's Answer to Royalty on the Seas

Despite the threat of overcapacity in the cruise shipping industry, newbuilding contracts have remained on a constant high — specifically in the mega ship sector. This new trend, which seems to have taken on a life of its own in the industry, beginning with Royal Caribbean’s Voyager of the Seas, has carried over to Cunard, which has hired Chantiers de l’ Atlantique to construct what is set to be the world’s largest ocean liner. Pimentel Steps Down From Top Post At Cunard Line

Carnival Corp. announced the resignation of Larry Pimentel, president and CEO of its Cunard Line Limited unit. Pamela Conover, COO of Cunard, has been given the additional title of president and will replace Pimentel as head of the luxury cruise operator. Both management changes are effective immediately. Pimentel has served at the helm of Cunard Line, which is comprised of both the Cunard and Seabourn cruise brands, since 1998, when the Miami-based combined entity was formed, following Carnival Corp.'s acquisition of Cunard. Prior to that he spent six years as president and COO of Seabourn Cruise Line, formerly based in San Francisco. Pimentel resigned for personal reasons, citing a desire to spend more time with his family.

Moody's Rates Proposed Costa Notes

S.A. that are unconditionally guaranteed by Carnival Corporation. Moody's also confirmed Carnival's A2 and Prime-1 ratings. The rating confirmation reflects Carnival's industry leading market share and margins, the strength of its brands, as well as the risks associated with its shipbuilding program and weakening global economic fundamentals. The rating outlook is stable. Carnival will use the proceeds of this offering to repay bridge financing put in place to consummate the acquisition of the remaining 50 percent interest in Costa Crociere from Airtours plc for $510 million and for working capital purposes. The cruise industry is expected to increase gross capacity by between 12-14 percent per annum through 2004.
