Medcenter Container Terminal Orders 12 Straddle Carriers from Kalmar

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has received an order of 12 diesel-electric straddle carriers from Medcenter Container Terminal (MCT) in Italy.Located in the southern Italian port of Gioia Tauro, MCT,  owned and operated by Terminal Investment Limited (TIL), is a mega port able to handle the largest container vessels deployed on Asia-Mediterranean routes.The terminal has handled more than 56 million TEUs since it opened in September 1995. In January 2020, Kalmar delivered the 200th Kalmar straddle carrier to the terminal.

Kalmar Delivers MCT 200th Straddle Carrier

Kalmar Supplies 9 Straddle Carriers to Eurogate

The  manufacturer of terminal tractors Kalmar has concluded an agreement with long-term customer Eurogate to heighten nine Kalmar straddle carriers operating at the Eurogate Container Terminal Hamburg.The order was booked in Cargotec's 2019 Q4 order intake, with the work scheduled to commence in Q1 of 2020 and be completed by the beginning of Q3, the unit of Cargotec said.Eurogate Container Terminal Hamburg is one of Northern Europe’s main transport hubs, offering excellent road, rail and feeder connections to the economic centers of Scandinavia, Central and Eastern Europe, and Russia. The Eurogate Container Terminal Hamburg equipment fleet includes Kalmar straddle carriers and ship-to-shore cranes.

Kalmar Bags Lineas Intermodal Order

The provider of cargo handling solutions Kalmar has been awarded a contract to supply leading European rail operator Lineas Intermodal with two Kalmar Hybrid Straddle Carriers, said its parent company Cargotec.The order was booked in Cargotec's 2019 Q3 order intake with delivery scheduled to be completed in Q1 2020.Being the largest private rail freight operator in Europe, Lineas operates the intermodal rail connected terminal ‘Main Hub’ in Antwerp-North.The company’s Green Xpress network concept offers customers a door-to-door solution with daily, fast and reliable rail connections between Europe’s economic hubs, significantly improving the supply chain and the ecological footprint of its customers.

Italian Terminal Orders Kalmar Straddle Carriers

Medcenter Container Terminal SpA (MCT), which operates a major transshipment hub for the Mediterranean region, has placed an order for 32 diesel-electric straddle carriers. The delivery of all machines scheduled to be completed by the end of Q4 2019. MCT is located in the southern Italian port of Gioia Tauro, a mega-port able to handle the largest vessels deployed on the Asia-Mediterranean routes.The terminal has handled more than 50 million TEU since it began operations in September 1995, with an annual handling capacity of 4.2 million TEU. Aus Terminal Selects Kalmar Straddle Carriers

Konecranes Bags Straddle Carriers Order

The provider of smart port solutions Konecranes’ long relationship with the EUROGATE Group continues with the signing, early this year, of an order for 17 Konecranes Noell Straddle Carriers for EUROGATE Container Terminal Hamburg.According to a press release, this order follows upon the delivery in 2018 of 43 Konecranes Noell Straddle Carrier to EUROGATE Container Terminal Hamburg and Bremerhaven and MSC Gate Bremerhaven.Konecranes’ relationship with the EUROGATE Group extends back to the beginning of containerization 50 years ago. Today, around 250 Konecranes Noell Straddle Carriers are operated by EUROGATE terminals in Northern Germany, and the fleet is growing. Early in 2019, Konecranes received and booked an order from EUROGATE Hamburg for 17 more Konecranes Noell Straddle Carriers.

DP World Orders Kalmar Straddle Carriers

The cargo-handling solutions provider Kalmar is to supply DP World with a total of 63 Kalmar Hybrid Straddle Carriers for use at four of its European container terminals: 12 units will be delivered to GMP in Le Havre, France; 20 units to Eurofos in Marseille, France; 19 units to Antwerp Gateway in Belgium; and 12 units to DP World Southampton in the UK.The order was booked in Cargotec's 2019 Q1 order intake, and the majority of the machines is expected to be delivered by the end of 2019, said Kalmar, part of Cargotec.Kalmar and DP World, one of the world's leading operators of marine and inland terminals, have developed a highly successful partnership over many years of working together.

APM Terminals Barcelona Cuts CO2

The electrical capacity of the APM Terminals Barcelona has also been improved, leading to a reduction in CO2 emissions of 600 tonnes per annum, said the international container terminal operating company headquartered in The Hague.As part of a broader Port of Barcelona’s programme for alternative fuel use, APM Terminals is also working with LNG services provider HAM, technology provider IDIADA and Naturgy Iberia, on a pilot to convert an existing straddle carrier to natural gas.Natural gas burns a lot more cleanly and efficiently than diesel. The straddle carrier’s two 150 kW diesel-based motor engines are currently being converted to natural gas while maintaining the same level of performance.

First Hybrid Straddle Carriers at Hamburg Port

The port of Hamburg has for the first time introduced two straddle carriers with environmentally friendly hybrid engines.The first two energy saving, low emissions straddle carriers with hybrid engines are being used to transport containers between the ship, the yard, the rail terminal and the truck gate at the HHLA Container Terminal Tollerort (CTT).According to a press release frm the company, the two prototypes are expected to use at least 15 percent less diesel than their predecessors. NY-NJ Port to be First to Use Electric Straddle Carrier in the US

Kalmar to Deliver Straddle Carriers to Maher Terminals

The marine industry equipment manufacturer Kalmar is to deliver a further order of straddle carriers to Maher Terminals LLC for use at their marine container terminal located in the Port of New York and New Jersey.According to a press release from Kalmar, part of Cargotec,  the order of 26 straddle carriers was booked in Cargotec's 2018 second quarter order intake, and delivery is scheduled to take place during Q1 of 2019.Maher Terminals is one of the largest privately held, multi-user container terminal operators in the world. The company has developed North America's largest marine container terminal in the Port of New York and New Jersey. The terminal covers a total area of approximately 500 acres (200 hectares) and has an estimated capacity of 2 million TEU.

Kalmar, DP World Southampton Pact for Hybrid Straddle Carriers

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has signed a contract with DP World Southampton to supply 12 hybrid straddle carriers for use at their container terminal, said a press release.The Southampton agreement also includes maintenance and operator training as well as six months of on-site maintenance support. The order was booked in Cargotec's 2018 third quarter order intake, and delivery is scheduled for Q2 of 2019. DP World Southampton is the UK port of choice for many global leaders in the container shipping industry. Kalmar and HHLA in Straddle Carrier Pact

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has concluded a deal with Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA), the leading European port and transport logistics group, to supply a total of 10 new straddle carriers.This brings the total number of Kalmar straddle carriers ordered by HHLA in the last two years to 30, further demonstrating the strong relationship with Kalmar and the company's commitment to Kalmar equipment. ICHCA, IAPH Joins for World Ports Sustainability Program

ICHCA International, the global NGO and membership association for cargo handling operations, technical, HSSE and risk professionals has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) to pursue cooperative projects of mutual interest. This includes the sharing of the research and findings of ICHCA’s Technical Panel (ITP) with the IAPH membership through its own working groups. The ICHCA Technical Panel has recently launched four new working groups on Dangerous Goods, Digital & Innovation, Straddle Carrier Safety and Dry Bulk Cargoes. Kalmar Backs Suomen Satamatekniikka Oy

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has signed a Kalmar Care service agreement with Suomen Satamatekniikka, a subsidiary of Steveco, covering the maintenance and service of 16 Kalmar straddle carriers at the Port of Helsinki, Finland. The order was booked in Cargotec's 2017 fourth quarter order intake and the agreement comes into effect from the beginning of February 2018. Steveco, a leading port operator in Finland, employs approximately 850 people and has annual revenues of close to EUR 160 million. The company operates three ports in Finland - Mussalo and Hietanen in Kotka, and Vuosaari in Helsinki - which are optimally located with regard to the main cargo routes into and out of Finland and Russia.

5 Types of Container Weighing Systems for Ports and Terminals

Every port and terminal facility needs weighing systems for containers. Weighing is critical in several processes in ports where accurate readings are paramount. To achieve this, the following weighing solutions can be incorporated. Weighbridges offer a vehicle weighing solution that may be placed at entrances and exits of the ports and terminals. An incoming truck can drive over the weighbridge and the total weight will be registered immediately. The tare weight of the truck must be deducted from the total weight to determine the container weight.

30 Kalmar Hybrid Shuttle Carriers for APM Terminals Tangier

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has signed a contract with APM Terminals to deliver 30 Kalmar Hybrid Shuttle Carriers with high level of automation readiness as well as the related service and support to the customer's MedPort Terminal in Tangier, Marocco. The order was booked into Cargotec's 2016 fourth quarter order intake and the delivery is estimated to be completed by the end of 2018. This is Kalmar's biggest single order for horizontal transportation to date. The Tangier-Med 2 port is a greenfield transshipment terminal that is scheduled to be opened in 2019. It will serve the major shipping routes between Europe, Africa and Far East and respond to the anticipated significant cargo traffic increase in Africa in the coming years.

APM Terminals Vado Orders 19 Straddle Carriers

APM Terminals has signed a contract for the delivery of 19 advanced container handlers which will employ advanced diesel/electric power sourcing to increase fuel efficiency and reduce emissions for Italy’s newest container terminal. Vado, Italy – APM Terminals has concluded a contract with Finnish-based container handling equipment manufacturer Kalmar for the delivery of 19 Hybrid Straddle Carriers for the new 800,000 TEU annual capacity deepwater APM Terminals Vado facility now under construction on northern Italy’s Ligurian Coast. The facility will be the world’s first container terminal to employ an entirely hybrid straddle carrier fleet.

Kalmar's Straddle Carriers for HHLA CTB

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has secured an order for nine diesel-electric straddle carriers from the leading European port and transport logistics group Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA). The order was booked in Cargotec's 2016 first quarter order intake, with delivery taking place during the fourth quarter of 2016. Established in 1968, HHLA Container Terminal Burchardkai (CTB) is the largest and oldest facility for container handling in the Port of Hamburg. The terminal has an annual capacity of more than 3 million TEU. The order continues a long tradition of innovation and collaboration with Kalmar. CTB was the first terminal to introduce the straddle carrier concept as well as a unique automatic stacking crane (ASC) concept featuring three cranes per block.

Kalmar Launches FastCharge Hybrid Straddle Carrier

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, announced today that it will expand the FastCharge technology into its hybrid straddle and shuttle carrier product portfolio. The new Kalmar FastCharge Hybrid Straddle Carrier will be the first of its kind on the market, and it is especially targeted for existing straddle carrier terminals not able to utilise fully electric powered solution for various reasons. 23 Kalmar Straddle Carriers for Transnet, South Africa

Kalmar has won a large order to supply 23 diesel-electric straddle carriers to Transnet Port Terminals (TPT) Durban Pier 2, a dedicated straddle carrier operation in South Africa currently handling a throughput of 2.6 million TEU. The contract also includes a delivery of a straddle carrier simulator, which will be used for training purposes at the site. The order was booked in Cargotec's 2016 third quarter order intake with deliveries scheduled to be completed in 2017. Terex to Automate Ports of Auckland's Straddle Carrier Fleet

Terex Port Solutions (TPS) is for the first time automating a straddle carrier fleet for Ports of Auckland Ltd. (POAL) from New Zealand. By mid-2019, TPS will supply a total of 27 new, fully automated N SC 644 E (1-over-3) machines to work in the container stackyard and to serve trucks. At the same time, 21 existing manual straddle carriers are being upgraded so that they can work hand in hand with the 27 fully automated machines. In addition to the supply and upgrade of the vehicles, the order also includes all sub-systems and software systems required for operation. Before POAL placed the order, TPS verified the feasibility and safety of the concept in a detailed study. 900,000 TEU to 1.6 to 1.7 million TEU.
