Wireless Crane Camera System: BlokCam

A new wireless crane camera system called BlokCam delivers live video from the hook block to the operator in the cabin. Manufactured by 4Site Technology exclusively for BlokCam Limited, BlokCam will be distributed by Compact Lifting Group. Contract Awarded for Rescue 21 in the Western Rivers

The Coast Guard plans to upgrade existing equipment at 49 remote fixed facilities and add three new locations to enhance search and rescue communications on the Western Rivers. U.S. Coast Guard illustration.

As part of the ongoing National Distress and Response System (NDRS) Modernization Project (Rescue 21), the U.S. Coast Guard competitively awarded a contract August 5, 2013, to Eyak Technology LLC for design, delivery, installation and support of Rescue 21 capabilities in the Western Rivers. Rescue 21, the Coast Guard’s advanced command, control and communications system, was created to better locate mariners in distress and save lives and property at sea and on navigable waterways.

GofM Well Control: Leak Plugged

BSEE confirm that Energy Resource Technology, LLC (ERT) has sealed Well #2 on the outer continental shelf of the Gulf of Mexico through the use of a temporarily set bridge plug. A bridge plug is a tool that can be used to isolate the lower part of a well. More work is needed to permanently plug and abandon the well. BSEE has been overseeing ERT’s work since the loss of well control on Ship Shoal Block 225 Platform B Well#2 beginning July 9; the well which was flowing natural gas is located approximately 74 miles southwest of Port Fourchon, LA. A BSEE overflight on July 13 confirmed that no sheen was present. The well had been flowing natural gas which was stopped July 11 by pumping drilling fluids into the well.

BSEE Confirms Well Flow has Stopped

BSEE confirmed today that Energy Resource Technology, LLC (ERT) has stopped the flow of natural gas from well #2 at Ship Shoal Block 225, Platform B. The flow from the well, located approximately 74 miles southwest of Port Fourchon, La.., was stopped using a pumping operation approved by BSEE that involved pumping drilling fluids into the well. More work is required to permanently secure the well. In the interim, BSEE is requiring that ERT monitor the well for any changes. BSEE engineers are reviewing plans and procedures from ERT for moving forward to isolate the well’s hydrocarbon zone. A BSEE supervisory inspector is on board the platform monitoring the on-going site assessment and well analysis.

BSEE continues to oversee efforts by Energy Resource Technology, LLC (ERT) to stop the flow of natural gas from a well located 74 miles southwest of Port Fourchon, LA at Ship Shoal Block 225, Platform B, in 146 feet of water. After equipment preparation and testing, well kill operations began at approximately 4:15 p.m. CDT. Procedures for the source control operations were prepared by ERT and reviewed and approved by BSEE. Once confirmation of the successful well kill operation is received, BSEE will review ERT's plan for plugging the well.

Loss of GofM Well Control: BSEE, USCG Continue Response

The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) is continuing to oversee Energy Resource Technology, LLC’s (ERT) source control efforts to stop the flow of gas and kill the well. The well is situated at Ship Shoal Block 225 Platform B, located approximately 74 miles offshore Louisiana, southwest of Port Fourchon, in about 146 feet of water. BSEE and Coast Guard remain on scene at a nearby platform. Following a site safety assessment, BSEE approved the movement of pumping equipment onto Platform E, adjacent to Platform B and connected by a bridge. BSEE engineers completed final reviews and approved the source control procedures which involve pumping drilling mud into the well to stop the flow of natural gas.

G4S Technology LLC wins Washington State Department of Transportation, Ferries Division contract to upgrade security systems. Conoco Leading the Way for Gulf of Mexico Shuttle Tankers

Seahorse Shuttling and Technology LLC, a wholly owned entity of Conoco, has completed the functional design of a new tanker for shuttling crude oil from the deepwater Gulf of Mexico to shore. double-hulled "GoMAX 550(TM)" shuttle tanker will be capable of transporting 550,000 barrels of crude oil. With a 40-foot draft, the new shuttle tanker will be able to enter most ports in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. "A major challenge of producing new crude oil discoveries in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico has been developing efficient means of transportation to U.S. refineries," said Antonio Valdes, manager of Conoco Marine. The GoMAX 550(TM) design is the result of a shipbuilding alliance between Conoco, Alabama Shipyard of Mobile, Ala., and Samsung Shipbuilding and Heavy Industries of South Korea.

Conoco Forms GOM Shuttle Tanker Alliance

Conoco has taken another step toward safe movement of newly discovered crude oil reserves from the deepwater Gulf of Mexico to U.S. refineries by shuttle tankers built in the United States. Conoco's wholly owned affiliate, Seahorse Shuttling and Technology LLC (Seahorse), has formalized an alliance with the Alabama Shipyard of Mobile, Ala., and Samsung Heavy Industries of Korea to develop a design and construction plan that could have American-built shuttle tankers ready for service in 2004. Seahorse was formed by Conoco to provide crude oil storage and tanker shuttling services for new oil discoveries made by Conoco and other companies in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico.

Local Yards Start to Feel the Impact

The U.S. Gulf of Mexico region is again poised to prosper, spurred by the buzz of activity surrounding the oil patch, and specifically the renewed vigor with which companies will explore and develop deepwater fields for the production of natural resources. Though the resumption of business at "full throttle" has taken perhaps a bit longer than many observers would have initially predicted, particularly given the continued high price of oil and gas and the "pro" oil industry political team occupying the White House, it is a safe bet that, at least for the next several years, the offshore oil business will ensure that the marine business in the GOM region is a prosperous one.
