Tennet Relocates Submarine Cable from Borssele

The transmission system operator Tennet has moved the first submarine cable from the Dutch wind farm zone "Borssele" to the transformer station."TenneT has laid the first sea cable to connect the Alpha platform to the transformer substation in Borssele. Boskalis is Exploring Biofuels

Dutch dredging and offshore contractor Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. said it will run its vessels on a biofuel blend while working on a project to install the export cable to the Borssele offshore wind farm.The Borssele Alpha project is being executed on behalf of TenneT and is aimed at connecting the Borssele offshore grid with the Dutch high-voltage grid.During this project, Boskalis will run its vessels on a biofuel blend of up to 30 percent. BorWin Gamma Platform Sails Away

The offshore converter platform, BorWin gamma, has now safely set sail from Dubai and begun its journey to  its offshore site in the German part of the North Sea.Through the Gulf of Oman, the 18,000 ton ‘topside’ will pass into the Red Sea before going through the Suez Canal onto the Mediterranean and past Gibraltar. Norsea, Wilhelmsen Bag Offshore Wind Deal

NSG Wind and Wilhelmsen Ship Management have together won a five year frame agreement with TenneT, a leading European electricity transmission system operator. NSG Wind and Wilhelmsen Ship Management have secured a frame agreement running until 2022. The framework agreement is to provide a complete technical maintenance solution for TenneT’s off- and onshore transformer stations and AC electricity transmission systems. Energy Island: Europeans Mull North Sea Hub

A plan set in motion by three European transmission system operators (TSO) aims to develop mammoth offshore wind farm infrastructure in the North Sea supported by at least one manmade island. First unveiled in June 2016, plans for the North Sea Wind Power Hub project will now press ahead to develop a large offshore renewable European electricity system following the signing of a trilateral agreement by TenneT TSO B.V. (Netherlands), Energinet.dk (Denmark) and TenneT TSO GmbH (Germany) in Brussels on March 23, 2017.

Rotterdam port mull power-to-gas-plant development

Six Rotterdam-based parties will investigate how sustainably generated electricity, converted into hydrogen, can be used in the production of fuels. TNO, Stedin, Smartport, Uniper, BP Refinery Rotterdam and Port of Rotterdam Authority will investigate the technical and economic feasibility of a power-to-gas plant in the Rotterdam port area, as well as the necessary amendments to regulations. DNV GL bags COSCO's HVDC Converter Platform Deal

DNV GL has been awarded a contract by COSCO Shipping Company Limited (COSCO SHIPPING) of China for the installation engineering services for the BorWin gamma high voltage direct current (HVDC) converter platform. The Dutch-German transmission system operator TenneT is developing the offshore AC/DC converter platform BorWin gamma as part of the grid connection project BorWin3. The project will provide an essential renewable offshore resource to meet increasing energy demands in Germany, as part of the German Energiewende (Energy Transition) programme.

ABB hands over Germany’s DolWin1

ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has successfully commissioned and handed over the DolWin1 offshore wind grid connection to the Dutch-German transmission system operator TenneT. The 800 megawatts (MW) High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) link connects offshore wind farms around 75 kilometers off the German coast in the DolWin cluster, with the country’s transmission grid. The DolWin1 grid connection can integrate 800 MW of offshore wind power, enough to supply around one million households with clean energy.

Nordic Yards Lays Dock for Offshore Converter Platform

Nordic Yards has performed the dock-laying of a steel element of the offshore converter platform DolWin gamma took place on January 30 in Warnemünde. The placing of a 200-metric-ton section marked another milestone in the production of the High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) platform, the builder said. As general contractor, Alstom placed an order with Nordic Yards in February 2013 for the construction of the offshore platform for the DolWin3 project run by the Dutch transmission system operator TenneT. The offshore platform DolWin gamma is the fourth platform manufactured by Nordic Yards.

Drydocks World signed an agreement today with Petrofac to build the BorWin3 high voltage direct current (HVDC) converter platform in the North Sea, named BorWin gamma. When completed, this will provide an essential renewable offshore resource to meet increasing energy demands. Drydocks World has successfully secured the contract for the fabrication, commissioning and load out of the BorWin3 platform, which will transmit electricity from the connected offshore wind farms to the mainland of Germany.

Dutch Team Installs Huge Power Socket in the North Sea

A combination of three Dutch offshore companies realized a unique operation in the North Sea, installing a giant ‘power socket’, the SylWin alpha platform. Siemens commissioned Seaway Heavy Lifting to perform an unusual operation that in turn called in the assistance of maritime service provider Dockwise and engineered heavy lifting and transport specialist Mammoet. Weighing 14,000 metric tons, the 83-meter long, 56-meter wide and 26-meter high SylWin alpha platform, built by Siemens, is the largest in its kind.

Five vessels of Smit Lamnalco, the global marine service provider, played the key role in the unberthing and float-over of the world's largest high voltage direct current (HVDC) platform, DolWin beta, at Drydocks World - Dubai. The five escort tugs, with more than a combined 450 metric tons bollard pull power, provided marine support not only during the unberthing process but also in the 24-mile tow offshore and its float over on to the heavy transport vessel, Dockwise owned and operated, Mighty Servant 1.

Imtech Equips HelWin bèta with HVAC System

On June 14, the HelWin bèta platform left on a barge from the Heerema Fabrication Group's (HFG) yard in Zwijndrecht for Schiedam to complete outstanding work. Last week, HelWin bèta reached its final destination in the German North Sea, where the platform will supply more than half a million households with sustainable energy. That requires high-tech systems. Imtech Marine is responsible for the design, construction and commissioning of the HVAC system, being the heating, ventilation and especially the cooling of all high-quality equipment on the platform.

OMM Reports Wind Farm Guard Vessel Business Boom

UK-based Offshore Marine Management (OMM) say that its Guard Vessels business has shown a strong performance in 2013 with 4,728 vessel management days recorded and a number of key industry relationships forged. The company informs it has been working closely with its vessel partner has provided guard vessels for a number of high profile wind farm interconnectors, including Borwin 2, Helwin 1, Dolwin 1 and Sylwin 1. This has allowed Offshore Marine Management (OMM) to build strong relationships with TenneT, Prysmian, ABB and EMAS including other market leaders.

NKT Opens Submarine Cables Center in Rotterdam

NKT Cables established its submarine cable Logistics Center at Rotterdam’s deepwater port in the Netherlands. The center with its present 9,000- and 4,600-metric-ton turntable capacity has been implemented within the NKT Cables production flow, in order to provide a substantial logistics capacity. With its unique cable splicing technology, NKT Cables can connect long single cable lengths together to form extra-long continuous submarine cables, enabling load-outs of up to 6,000 metric tons - and even more - in one campaign to any cable laying vessel, adapting optimally to each specific project.

NKT Cables has established a submarine cable Logistics Centre, with a 9.000 and 4,600 tonne turntable capacity at Rotterdam’s deep-water port in the Netherlands. The company informs that with its unique cable splicing technology, NKT Cables can connect long single cable lengths together to form extra-long continuous submarine cables, enabling load-outs of up to 6,000 tonnes - and even more - in one campaign to any cable laying vessel. Extra-long lengths up to more than 30 km of submarine cable have been produced and loaded in a single, continuous length from the new site in Rotterdam.

The company says it created history in marine and offshore operations when they lifted the 10,000-tonne topside of the first gravity base of the semi-submersible (and world’s largest offshore HVDC platform structure) 'DolWin Beta' to a height of 52.8 metres from the dock bottom. The complex mating operation was carried out on DolWin beta which is under construction at the shipyard. The environmentally friendly system will act as a 900 MW electricity transmission link that will connect offshore wind farms located at the DolWin wind farm area near Helgoland in the German sector of the North Sea.

Offshore Wind Connection Contract for ABB

Power and automation technology group ABB has won a significant order from the Dutch-German transmission system operator TenneT to supply an AC (alternating current) power transmission link connecting Sandbank, an offshore wind farm in the German North Sea, to the HVDC (high-voltage direct current) converter station SylWin alpha.
