SINOPACIFIC Wins Bid for 9 AHTS

SINOPACIFIC Shipbuilding Group was recently successful in winning the bid for the construction of 9 AHTS vessels for Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and its wholly-owned subsidiary, ESNAAD. ADNOC firstly launched bids for this new-building project in 2013 and then handed it over to ESNAAD, its wholly-owned subsidiary for follow up. The above contract was signed by both parties in Abu Dhabi and SINOPACIFIC will deliver all 9 vessels in 2017. The design that won the bid is the SPA80A, which is an AHTS with electric propulsion system and a bollard pull of 80mt designed by SDA (Shanghai Design Associates), the SINOPACIFIC OSV design team.

Buamim Addresses Offshore Support Journal Conference

Khamis Juma Buamim, Chairman of Drydocks World Group and Maritime World participated in the "Annual Offshore Support Journal Conference" held from February 17th to 19th 2015, in London. The conference saw good participation from key global and regional speakers in the marine, maritime and shipping sectors. It brought together many of the offshore support industry’s leaders such as major oil companies, shipbuilders, ship-owners, financiers, designers, suppliers and original equipment manufacturers and industry associations. IMCA DP Specialist Plans Busy Autumn

Marine Technical Adviser Ian Giddings has a busy autumn ahead of him as he will taking part in four events in Singapore, Abu Dhabi and Houston; as well as being at the IMCA Annual Seminar, being held in Singapore (6-7 November, 2013) where he will be facilitating a workshop on DP incident reporting. Providing guidance on all aspects of dynamic positioning; technical reports and annual incident reports and analysis plays an important role in the work programme of the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA).

‘Addressing the Challenges of New Frontiers’ is the topical theme for the International Marine Contractors Association’s (IMCA) Annual Seminar being held in Singapore November 6-7, 2013. Rolls-Royce to Supply Offshore Cranes for Brazilian PSVs

Rolls-Royce Plc signed a contract with Detroit Chile SA for the delivery of offshore cranes to four platform supply vessels (PSVs) under construction at Detroit Brasil Ltda. shipyard, in Itajaì, Brazil. The delivery from Rolls-Royce will include four ship sets of the award winning dual draglink crane - eight cranes in total. Upon completion, the vessels designed by Guido Perla, will enter service on an eight-year contract with the state owned Brazilian oil company Petrobras. Brazilian Starnav Serviços Marìtimos Ltda, a subsidiary of Detroit Chile SA, will be operating the vessels. The dual draglink crane is optimized for safer and more efficient load handling in harbor and on the ship’s deck while at sea…

MPI Windfarm Construction Vessels Win Award

MPI Offshore’s new generation of offshore wind turbine installation vessels are expanding the envelope of the renewables industry, taking it into deeper water and harsher environments. With a new generation of offshore windfarms under construction in more remote locations and harsher environments, MPI Offshore has started operating two new advanced wind turbine installation vessels. These specialised vessels – MPI Adventure and MPI Discovery – were designed by GustoMSC and built at the Cosco Qidong and Cosco Nantong shipyards in China. They can operate in deeper waters and harsher sea and weather conditions than the previous generation of windfarm construction vessels, increasing the operational envelope of the offshore renewables industry.

OSV Ship of the Year 'North Sea Giant'

The North Sea Giant is considered to be the largest offshore vessel of this type ever built, with an overall length of 156m, beam of 30m and installed power of more than 22MW. The vessel was given the prize for her innovative features, which include advanced dynamic positioning (DP) capability for DP operations based on a high redundancy level and high propulsion power. North Sea Giant has a capacity for 120 people and its structure is highlighted by its heliport on the bow and a bridge placed up on the sixth deck of the vessel. The vessel boasts a working deck area of close to 3000 sqm .

Idar Ulstein Passes Away

Idar Ulstein

Idar Ulstein, that was CEO and Chairman of the board of ULSTEIN for many years, passed away Sunday night. He has played a huge role for the maritime industry and has been deeply involved in community development. Idar Ulstein entered the company first as a 14 year old in 1948, when his father died. After completing naval architect studies in 1962, he reentered the company as head of design. The company was growing, and when Molde yard was purchased in 1964, Idar became manager of the new companies. In 1974, after the merger with Hatlø mechanical workshop, he became CEO of Ulstein Hatlø.
