As one of the many events taking place at Nor-Shipping 2009, the Fourth International Ship Management Summit features key industry players in a programme conceived to address how the global financial crisis will shape the ship management and operations in years to come.

In an industry characterized by declining freight rates and intense competition for cargoes, shipowners are trimming costs, putting pressure on ship managers to offer more affordable services. At the same time, regulators remain committed to ensuring that safety remains a top priority.

The one day conference, to be chaired by Intertanko Managing Director Dr. Peter Swift, will examine the crisis from the perspective of the ship manager, ship owner and regulator. Other speakers include Willem De Ruitter, Executive Director of the European Maritime Safety Agency, Roberto Giorgi, President of V.Ships and InterManager, Annette Malm Justad, CEO of Eitzen Maritime Services and Sjur Agdestein Managing Director, DVB Bank, Piraeus among others.

Other events organized around Nor-Shipping 2009 include the Marine Electronics & Communications Conference and the presentation of Safety At Sea International’s AMVER Award on June 10 and Tradewinds’ Oslo Shipping Forum and The Offshore Support Journal Conference, scheduled for June 11.  Nor Shipping’s Opening Conference, entitled “From Crisis to Opportunity: Shipping role in the fight against Climate Change” is scheduled for June 9.
