Metal Shark Open for Business in Alabama

Metal Shark announced it has secured a contract to build three 120’ x 35’ river towboats for Florida Marine Transporters, Inc. (FMT), signalling the U.S. shipbuilder’s entry into the towboat market.The four-decked, welded-steel, USCG Subchapter “M”-compliant towboats were designed by John W. Gilbert Associates, Inc. and will be powered by twin Cat 3512C Tier 3 marine diesel engines rated at 1,911 HP each. Billy Smith Rejoins Trinity Yachts

William S. Smith III (Billy) has been named Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Trinity Yachts effective immediately. The announcement was made today by Shane Guidry, president and CEO of Harvey Gulf International Marine. Smith previously served as vice president of sales and marketing at Trinity Yachts and Gulf Coast Shipyard Group (GCSG), a position which was eliminated upon the purchase of the companies by Harvey Gulf on June 25, 2015. Harvey Gulf Acquires Shipbuilding Assets

Harvey Gulf International Marine (HGIM) is launching a new affiliate, Harvey Shipyard Group, to manage its shipbuilding assets, the company announced today. Harvey Shipyard Group is acquiring Gulf Coast Shipyard (Gulfport, Miss.) and Trinity Yachts (New Orleans, La.). HGIM Chairman and CEO Shane J. HGIM said it intends to work with its affiliates to catapult the Gulf Coast Shipyard, which constructed the nation’s first LNG OSVs for the offshore market, in addition to tank and hot oil barges. HGIM alone is investing $350 million to construct its dual-fuel fleet.

Gulf Coast Shipyard Group, Inc.—a manufacturer of a variety of ocean-going and inland marine vessels for commercial and military markets as well as the Trinity Yachts brand— has announced its expansion by signing a three-year lease with one-year options with the Port of Gulfport. Specifically, Gulf Coast Shipyard Group will use 400 linear feet of dock space on the Port’s East Pier and 15,000 square feet of warehouse space to outfit the dual fuel liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered vessels it is building for Harvey Gulf International Marine.

In the more than two years since its founding, Mississippi-based TY Offshore, the former Trinity Offshore, has invested in a new yard in Gulfport and repaired its storm-damaged New Orleans holdings. The company has doubled its capacity and racked up new orders, president and CEO John Dane III said. TY Offshore designs and builds offshore barges, tugs, oilfield-support vessels and spill-response and patrol vessels. The company's new name, adopted in late June, should make business simpler. “We decided to rebrand for two reasons,” Dane said.

GSSC Shipfitter Boot Camp Produces 18 for Industry

12 Graduate from GSSC Shipfitter Boot Camp and Have Jobs Waiting for Them. In November 2011, 18 individuals started an intensive 10-week shipfitter boot camp that was developed by the Gulf States Shipbuilders Consortium (GSSC) to prepare workers for entry-level employment in the maritime industry. Before an invitation was extended to participate in the training program, candidates completed prequalification activities that included drug testing, WorkKeys® assessments, industry presentations, shipyard tours, and interviews. On Thursday, March 1, the 12 individuals who successfully completed the pilot program participated in a graduation ceremony hosted by Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (MGCCC) at its Advanced Manufacturing and Technology Center (AMTC) in Gulfport, Mississippi.

The Signet Constellation and Signet Stars & Stripes are the latest development in Robert Allan Ltd.’s RAstar series of tugs. These two powerful new escort tugs have been delivered to their owner’s – Signet Maritime Corporation of Houston, Texas. They were constructed to provide marine support services to Angola LNG Supply Services (ALSS) in the Port of Pascagoula, Mississippi. Designated as RAstar 3100s and designed by Naval Architects Robert Allan Ltd. of Vancouver, BC, they were constructed by Trinity Yachts LLC, at their Gulfport, MS shipyard.

Trinity Yachts: The Year in Review, The Year Ahead

In a global economic climate which might merely be described as awkwardly viable, Trinity Yachts continues to set a remarkable pace in custom superyachts launched and delivered in 2011 with great expectations for launches and deliveries in 2012. In 2011, Trinity delivered the 191’ (58m) M/Y Carpe Diem and  164’ (50m) M/Y Falcon; and launched the 198’ (60m) M/Y Areti,  187’ (58m) M/Y Lady Linda, and the 242’ (73m) M/Y New Horizon. The latter three yachts will be delivered in 2012. In early January 2012, Trinity Yachts launched the 164’ (50m) M/Y Tsumat which also has an expected 2012 delivery.

Dometic Marine Supplies Chilled Water Systems to Signet

Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) specialist Dometic Marine has recently secured orders to supply its chilled water equipment to high performance tug builder Signet Maritime. As part of the new contract, Dometic Marine will supply its chillers on-board three  Signet 82 Metric Ton Bollard Pull Z-Drive tugs, to provide each vessel with 240,000 BTU (British Thermal Unit) or 20 tons of capacity. "We require the highest quality and proven-reliable air conditioning to provide a comfortable and pleasant working environment for our crew members, as well as cool sensitive electronic equipment on-board," said Joseph W. Dahl, General Manager of New Construction for Signet Maritime.

Dometic Launches In-Duct Breathe Easy Air Purifier

Dometic Marine launched the new In-Duct Breathe Easy Air Purifier (patent-pending) to the US commercial and workboat markets at this year’s Pacific Marine Expo. The system was recently awarded the IBEX Innovation Award in the Mechanical Systems category. Since its launch to the U.S. marine leisure market, the In-Duct Breathe Easy has been specified by several yacht builders including Trinity Yachts. The In-Duct Breathe Easy Air Purifier is specifically designed to work within the ducting of a vessel’s air conditioning system.

Trinity Yachts Signs Contract To Build 192 ft. Yacht

Trinity Yachts, Inc. will build for a New Zealand client a 192 ft. global explorer yacht to be delivered in the fall of 2001. This yacht will be the first of Trinity Yachts Explorer Series and features large capacities for fuel, water, provisions and tenders in order to allow cruising for extended periods of time in remote areas of the South Pacific. The vessel, the largest contracted to date, will be the fourth of the New Class of Global Explorer yachts designed and marketed by Trinity Yachts, Inc. The new Ulysses will be constructed and finished to a very high standard with classification to Lloyds 100A1 LMC for private yachts. Main engines will be twin Caterpillar 3512B rated at 1,500 hp each at 1,600 rpm for a cruise speed of 15 knots with a range of 8,000 miles at 12 knots.

Trinity Yachts Delivers 94-ft. Whale Song

The 94-ft. (28.6 m) explorer yacht Whale Song is designed specifically for the owner to safely travel the world in his quest for observing whales in their natural environment. The yacht is built extremely strong with a superstructure aft layout for maximum comfort at sea. The hull is steel construction to ABS ice class scantlings and contains spacious and comfortable amenities for accommodating the owner and seven guests on extended voyages. This yacht has been designed to utilize commercial type systems for reliability, durability and minimum crew. Below deck, the vessel is divided into six watertight compartments by utilizing five watertight bulkheads. The crew quarters are forward which allows for separation of owner and guests from the crew when desired.

Shipbuilding Company Returns to New Orleans

United States Marine Inc., a shipbuilding company that moved its headquarters to Gulfport, Miss. after Hurricane Katrina, has returned to the New Orleans. In November 2007, the company leased space along the Industrial Canal in New Orleans from Trinity Yachts Inc. The company now is using the New Orleans yard to construct a line of military vessels bound for the Middle East nation of Bahrain. United States Marine's headquarters will remain in Mississippi while its new Industrial Canal space will serve as a second location. The company shares Trinity's equipment and work force, which it is using to complete a $22m contract with the U.S. Navy to build two vessels that will ultimately be used by Bahrain.

SpecTec New Yacht Projects

SpecTec has been contracted for the delivery of a comprehensive IDEA management software system to M/Y Slipstream and sister vessel M/Y Cloud Nine. Both vessels are currently under construction at CMN shipyard in Cherbourg, France and are due for delivery in February and June 2009 respectively. SpecTec has been contracted for the delivery of a comprehensive IDEA management and documentation system to the next two vessels of AMELS’ 171 semi-custom mega yacht series. Both vessels are currently under construction at the yard’s Vlissingen facility and will be delivered mid 2009.

Trinity Yachts Delivers First of Two Patrol Craft

Trinity Yachts, L.L.C., through its wholly owned subsidiary, Trinity Offshore, L.L.C., has delivered the first of two aluminum 82 ft. patrol craft it is building in New Orleans under a sub-contract to United States Marine, Inc., (U.S.M.I.) of Gulfport. The craft design is similar to those built for United States Special Operations Command (SOCOM) in the late 1990’s by the Trinity Marine Group. These vessels are still in service today. The first hull was recently delivered to U.S.M.I. for outfitting and the second hull is scheduled for delivery to U.S.M.I. in late March 2009.
