UTEC Introduces New AUV Launch and Recovery System

UTEC, a global surveying company in subsea services group Acteon, recently commissioned its new launch and recovery system (LARS) for the fleet of seven autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV) it uses for seabed surveys in the oil and renewables industries.UTEC’s new LARS is a floating garage that enables an AUV to be launched and recovered without needing a small boat, thereby simplifying operations and improving safety. UTEC Develops Bespoke FPSO Virtual Management Tool

UTEC has delivered a bespoke Virtual Asset Management tool to an offshore Operator in Eastern Canada to allow its team to remotely access its floating, production storage and offloading unit (FPSO) from their desktop. The field, located offshore approximately 350 kilometers southeast of Newfoundland and Labrador contains one of the largest FPSO vessels ever built. At approximately the size of three football fields laid end to end the FPSO is over 290 meters long, more than 40 meters wide and more than 18 stories high. InterMoor completed its involvement in the Shell Malikai Tension Leg Platform (TLP) float-off operations. The TLP was loaded onto the Dockwise Heavy Lift Vessel White Marlin at Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering (MMHE) shipyard in Pasir Gudang, Malaysia, and transported to a float-off location in the Singapore Straits. Chain Tensioning, Cutting Completed for FPSO Turritella

InterMoor said it has completed the final tensioning and chain cutting operations on the FPSO Turritella for the Shell Stones project, located in the Walker Ridge protraction area in the Gulf of Mexico (GoM). The FPSO Turritella will connect to subsea infrastructure located beneath approximately 9,500 ft (2,896 m) of water, breaking the existing water depth record for an oil and gas production facility. This ultra-deepwater project marks the first FPSO for Shell in the GoM, and the second FPSO in the GoM.

LM Handling Installs FPSO

LM Handling, an Acteon company, has provided handling expertise and equipment to support Acteon sister company, InterMoor, in the successful mooring installation of a floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit for the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) operated Enping 24-2 oilfield in the South China Sea. With LM Handling’s lifting and handling expertise and equipment, a 12-pile anchor mooring system, consisting of three clusters of four mooring lines, was installed. LM Handling provided its StabFrame-S in its extended configuration, pre-loaded with additional ballast to achieve a stable and safe install for the long mooring piles, and 84 and 60 in. internal lift tools.

Study Targets Reduced Offshore Wind Costs

Xodus Group, Cathie Associates and UTEC Geomarine have formed an industry leading consortium to deliver a study which will aim to reduce the costs of generating electricity from offshore wind farms in U.K. waters. The Carbon Trust’s Offshore Wind Accelerator (OWA), which brings together nine offshore wind developers (DONG Energy, E.ON, Mainstream Renewable Power, RWE Innogy, ScottishPower Renewables, SSE Renewables, Statkraft, Statoil and Vattenfall) in a joint industry project, is working towards reducing the cost of offshore wind by at least 10% by 2015. Technology challenges are identified and prioritized by the OWA members based on the likely savings and the potential for the OWA to influence the outcomes.

UTEC Ink Australia Subsea Survey Contract

UTEC Survey contracted by a major subsea pipelay contractor for survey work on the Great Western Flank Pipe Lay. This project encompasses pre-lay, installation support and as-built survey support on the Greater Western Flank development off the North-west coast of Australia. Pre-lay work is due to commence in late March 2013 with the major pipelay activities to follow in Q3. UTEC Consolidates Middle East Position

This is the second year in succession that UTEC has provided support to the contractor in the region. The UAE (Dubai) project involved UTEC supporting the state-of-the-art DP pipelay vessel in extremely shallow water providing enhanced USBL methodologies as well as the provision of survey support services on two additional DP vessels which provided diver support and remedial services to the pipelay vessel.

UTEC Opens New Premises in Naples, Italy

In opening a second new office and workshop facility in six months, UTEC has underlined its commitment to both the Mediterranean and African markets by relocating to a purpose built-facility in Naples, Italy. Continued sustained growth in operations, including two large geophysical and geotechnical projects in West Africa and Saudi Arabia, has led the company to move to larger premises in Pozzuoli, Naples. The new building offers 600 square meters of office and workshop/warehouse space and will be the base for the team which currently comprises 10 onshore and 12 offshore personnel.
