Wärtsilä Acquires Vik-Sandvik

Wärtsilä has acquired the global ship design group Vik-Sandvik, an independent group providing design and engineering services to ship owners and the ship building industry worldwide. The value of the acquisition is $169.9m, with an additional maximum sum of $48.9m to be paid based on the performance of the business over the next three years. In 2007, Vik-Sandvik’s turnover was $70.8 millions and the profitability is on a very good level. The number of employees is 410. Wärtsilä Acquires Vik-Sandvik

Wärtsilä has acquired the global ship design group Vik-Sandvik, an independent group providing design and engineering services to ship owners and the ship building industry worldwide. The value of the acquisition is $209.5m, with an additional maximum sum of $60m to be paid based on the performance of the business over the next three years. In 2007, Vik-Sandvik's turnover was $87m and the profitability is on a very good level. The number of employees is 410. The role of ship design is becoming more and more important due to higher performance requirements, more sophisticated systems, and increased integration onboard most vessels. Also, the environmental and emission regulations regarding NOx and CO2 are becoming increasingly stringent.

Aker Yards to Build PSV

Aker Yards has confirmed an optional agreement with Siem Offshore Inc for the building of two Platform Supply Vessels. The value of the contract is approximately NOK 275 million. Delivery is scheduled for second quarter 2007 from Aker Yards, Aukra. The vessels are of Vik Sandvik design, VS 470 Mk II. The vessels will be equipped with dynamic positioning, special product tanks, azimuth thrusters and accommodation for 34 persons.

Norwegian Shipping Ltd Exercises Option for Anchor Handlers

Norwegian naval architects Vik-Sandvik have confirmed that the Cyprus-based company Norwegian Shipping Ltd has decleared options for additional two AHTS at Bharati Shipyard Ltd in India.Norwegian Shipping Ltd now has a total of four VS 4612 designs under construction at Bharati Shipyard.  The last two vessels will be delivered in February and June 2010. Siem Acquires PSV Contract

Norwegian offshore vessels operator Siem Offshore Inc said that its 51%-owned subsidiary Siem Meling Offshore DA has agreed to acquire a platform supply vessel construction contract for NOK315m. The Vik-Sandvik VS 485 type vessel will be built at the Eidesvik shipyard in Norway, and is scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2009. Siem Offshore is headquartered in Kristiansand in Norway.

Wärtsilä Receives Order for FSV Design

Wärtsilä, ship power system integrator for the marine industry, has received a ship design order from the Norwegian shipping company Sartor Shipping AS. The order is for two Vik-Sandvik 465 FSV design vessels that will be built at the Wison Heavy Industry shipyard in China. Wärtsilä scope of supply also includes two main engines, gear boxes and propellers. Sartor Shipping has options for further newbuildings at the yard. Aker to Build AHTS for Maersk

Aker Yards has entered into a contract with AP. Moller - Maersk AS, for the building of eight Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessels (AHTS). The contract also includes an optional agreement for another two sister vessels. The series of AHTS vessels is of Vik & Sandvik design, VS 472. Deliveries are scheduled for 2008 and 2009, from Aker Yards in Norway. The vessels are of approximately 240 x 65.5 x 30 ft. Roy Reite, responsible for Offshore & Specialized Vessels in Aker Yards comments: "We are very pleased that AP. Moller - Maersk as a large international shipowner again chose to cooperate with us. This contract is the largest contract signed in the Offhore & Specialized Vessels business area to date, and will give activity well into 2009.

Aker Yards Contracted for Eight AHTSV

Aker Yards has entered into a contract with AP. Moller - Maersk AS, for the building of eight Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessels (AHTS). The contract also includes an optional agreement for another two sister vessels. The value of the contract is approximately $496.8 million. The series of AHTS vessels is of Vik & Sandvik design, VS 472. Deliveries are scheduled for 2008 and 2009, from Aker Yards in Norway. The vessels are of approximately 73.2 m. length, 20.0 m. breadth and 9.1 m. depth molded.

Maersk AS has announced that they will exercise the option with Aker Yards to build another two Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessels (AHTS). The two vessels will be sister vessels to the eight Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessels ordered by AP. Moller - Maersk AS in March 2006. The series of AHTS vessels is of Vik & Sandvik design, VS 472. Tidewater Inc. announced that it has taken delivery of the M/V Miss Jane Tide. The Miss Jane Tide is Tidewater's first VS 480 platform supply vessel built by the company's own Quality Shipyards, L.L.C. in Houma, La. The ship, designed by the Norwegian firm Vik-Sandvik, is the first of four identical vessels to be built by Quality. The Miss Jane Tide is a 260-ft. PSV and is the first domestically constructed vessel to be delivered under Tidewater's new construction program announced in January 2000. In addition, Tidewater has also taken operational delivery of the M/V Ace Nature, one of eight vessels acquired from The Sanko Steamship Co., Ltd. in late 2000. At 276 feet, the Ace Nature, a UT 745 PSV, is one of the largest ships among Tidewater's fleet.

MAN B&W to Power MAERSK AHTS

MAN B&W Diesel A/S, Frederikshavn, Denmark has been awarded a contract to supply complete twin-screw twin-in/single-out medium speed propulsion packages for eight Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessels (AHTS). The newbuildings, which will be built by Aker Yards AS, Norway, were ordered by the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group’s Maersk Supply Service. The finalized vessels are expected to be delivered from Norway (from both Aker’s Brattvaag and Langsten shipyards) with two month intervals during 2008 and 2009. GEOSHIPS Extends Fleet Following Successful Year for First Vessel

SeaHold GEOSHIPS Ltd., a marine and subsea services shipping company, has taken delivery of its second multi-purpose support vessel (MPSV) on a contract valued at over £30million, following a successful year for its current vessel, the Stril Explorer. Formed in 2003, Aberdeen-based GEOSHIPS will manage and crew the MPSV Loch Roag vessel, which it has taken on a five-year bareboat charter basis from Otto Marine Ltd. The contract is valued at  £22million ($36.5 million) over five years with an option to extend the contract for two more years…

Contract Signed for LNG Powered Ship

Statoil has awarded Eidesvik Shipping AS the contract for the delivery of a supply ship fuelled by liquefied natural gas (LNG). Running for a period of five years from October 2006, with three one-year options, this contract is worth almost NOK 370 million, including options. This is a Vik Sandvik 493 LNG-Avant ship of the same design as Viking Avant, which is already chartered by Statoil. The new ship is planned to transport supplies from Kristiansund to the Halten/Nordland area. Statoil is the only company that uses LNG-fuelled ships in offshore operations worldwide. “Statoil has two LNG-fuelled ships under existing contracts. They have performed to our full satisfaction, not least in terms of the environment.

Wärtsilä Combines Ship Design Units

– In a move to solidify its course as a complete ship system supplier, Wärtsilä at Norshipping in announced that it will combine all its ship design units into a single entity, to be known as Wärtsilä Ship Design. The units involved in this reorganization include the recently acquired naval architect companies Vik-Sandvik of Norway, Conan Wu & Associates (CWA) of Singapore, and SCHIFFKO of Germany, as well as the company's conceptual ship design unit in Finland. "There will be close collaboration between our Ship Design unit, other parts of the Ship Power organization, and other Wärtsilä businesses. Our long term ambition is to create standard proven designs with predefined solutions, and to provide operational services with performance guarantees and fixed prices.

OPK Shipyards Launch Platform Supply Vessel

On September 8, 2009, Severnaya Verf shipyard, a part of United Industrial Corporation (OPK), launched a vessel for oil-rig platform provision, also known as the project VS 485 PSV. The vessel for oil-rig platform provision is equipped with special capacities and cargo system for transportation of oil-rig mortar, friable freights, methanol and general freights on the open deck. Also, the vessel is equipped for the participation in rescuing, evacuation and fire fighting missions around the oil-producing platforms in the North Atlantic. Norway Company Solvik Hull Supplies AS is the customer of this vessel, and the designer Norway Company Vik-Sandvik AS.

SeaHold GEOSHIPS Adds Two New Offshore Vessels

SeaHold GEOSHIPS expanded its fleet of multi-purpose offshore vessels. The two new vessels ‘Loch Erisort’ and ‘Loch Roag’ brings the Aberdeen-based firm’s fleet up to three, while also signifying a $140m in additional financial commitment. The new vessels, which are both of Vik & Sandvik VS470 design will be delivered in Quarter 1 2012 and Quarter 4 2012 respectively and are actively being promoted to the Oil and Gas market for long-term work. Solstad Orders Large Construction Vessel

Ulstein Verft AS will build a large construction vessel for Solstad. The contract is worth around $98.8 million and the vessel will be delivered in May 2007. “We have won this demanding project in competition with several other shipyards and the contract confirms that Ulstein Verft is a leader when it comes to offshore construction vessels, and our good cooperation with Solstad,” said Tore Ulstein, the president of Ulstein Verft. The vessel is going to be used for very demanding marine operations, and during the last two years Ulstein Verft has signed contracts for two major conversions and two new builds within the offshore construction market, all ordered from Solstad.

GEOSHIPS to Operate, Manage New DP1 Craft

GEOSHIPS creates 40 new jobs with delivery of latest vessel. GEOSHIPS Group, a marine and subsea services provider, has completed charter party negotiations with Singapore based Teras Offshore, for a new Offshore Deck Cargo Vessel, resulting in the planned recruitment of a further 40 offshore staff. Formed in 2003, Westhill-based GEOSHIPS will operate, manage and crew the DP1 (dynamic positioning) Loch Seaforth vessel, which has been contracted on a three year bareboat charter, with options to extend.

Latest GEOSHIPS Vessel Secures Multimillion Pounds Worth of Contracts

GEOSHIPS Group has announced two contract wins worth a combined value of £3 million for the company’s latest vessel. Following an open day on-board the Loch Roag for potential clients, the vessel secured work in the North Sea with two new customers for GEOSHIPS. The forecasted revenue for the DP2 (dynamically positioned) multi purpose support vessel for the next 12 months is valued at nearly £10 million. The Westhill-based company, which was formed in 2003, took delivery of the Loch Roag in April on a contract valued at over £30 million. It resulted in the employment of 40 new offshore staff.

Enter the LNG-Fueled Supply Ship

A landmark decision to use liquefied natural gas (LNG), instead of diesel oil, to fuel a new class of offshore support vessel has taken operational form on the Norwegian continental shelf after a three-year development process. The platform supply ship Viking Energy is the result of a concerted effort to provide a versatile, sophisticated vessel promising much reduced environmental impact. The project emphasizes the Norwegian coastal industrial community's propensity for innovation, and for working together to bring new ideas to fruition. Although bunkering on LNG has meant a higher capital outlay on the newbuild project, the vessel is expected to yield about 200-tons less in oxides of nitrogen (NOx) emissions every year compared to a ship burning oil.

Clean Propulsion Concept for Broström Tankers

MAN B&W Diesel A/S, Alpha, Denmark has been awarded the contract to supply a twin medium speed main engine package to drive AziPull propellers for a series of 14,500 DWT Oil Products and Chemical tankers. MAN B&W Holeby GenSets will be supplied by a Chinese licensee. The vessels are under construction for Broström Tankers AB, Göteborg, Sweden. Four vessels will be built by Jinling Shipyard, Nanjing, China. The newbuildings are scheduled for delivery during 2006 and 2007. Together with Broström Tankers AB, the naval architects and designers Skipskonsulent A/S, Bergen from the Vik & SandVik Group, Norway, have been in charge of this state-of-the-art shortsea tanker concept, optimized for North European trade.

Successful NORSOK Qualification for Sandvik

Successful NORSOK qualification of Sandvik 254 SMO hydraulic and instrumentation tubing increases opportunities in the oil and gas sector. Adding to its extensive capability in supplying material to the oil and gas industry worldwide, Sandvik has successfully been qualified according to NORSOK  M650 edition 4 for the MDS R18 and MDS R11 standard for its seamless austenitic stainless steel hydraulic and instrumentation tube and pipe products in grade Sandvik 254 SMO (UNS S31254) for use in oil and gas applications.
