QM2 Headed for Blohm + Voss Repair
One of the world's largest ocean liner, the Queen Mary 2, is scheduled to arrive in Hamburg on November 12, 2006 at Blohm + Voss Repair GmbH, a company of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems. In the course of her previous yard period in the time from May 6 to 10, 2006, one of the four engine pods, a Mermaid Pod, which had been damaged when leaving Port Everglades/Florida, was removed to be repaired by Blohm + Voss Repair. From November 12 to 17, 2006, the pod weighing approximately 270 tons will be reinstalled. In addition to this, all balconies will be provided with a sprinkler system and the bridge wings will be extended by two meters. Blohm + Voss Repair Wins Business
On the morning of March 30, 2004, the Black Prince of the Fred. Olsen Cruises Line shipping company docked into Dock 10 of Blohm + Voss Repair GmbH. The cruise liner as it is today was originally constructed in such a way that it was able to be employed on the one hand as a passenger liner and cargo ship, and on the other as a passenger and car ferry. The Black Prince was converted into a pure passenger liner in 1986. The ship particularly stands out due to the newly designed Marina Park – a water sports facility that is unique up to now.
LADY MOURA at Blohm + Voss
After having stayed at Blohm + Voss in 1992, 1997 and 2003, the mega yacht LADY MOURA has started her fourth visit yesterday to Blohm + Voss Repair, a company of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems. Following a short stop at Überseebrücke, the LADY MOURA was hauled into floating dock No. 6 in the evening. In addition to general repair and refit work, various comprehensive preservation work on both the hull and the superstructure will be part of the job. The work is scheduled to be completed in February 2007. The LADY MOURA was built in 1990 by Blohm + Voss in accordance with a design of the Italian architect Luigi Sturchio. She has a length of 105 m, a width of 18.5 m and a draught of 5.40 m.
Star Capital: New Owner of the civilian Blohm + Voss
With the deal officially closed on January 31, 2012, the sale of the civilian Blohm + Voss companies – Blohm + Voss Industries, Blohm + Voss Repair and Blohm + Voss Shipyards (plus their subsidiaries) – to the UK investment company Star Capital Partners (SCP) is now complete. The purchase agreement between ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems AG and SCP for the acquisition of these companies was finalized on December 11, 2011. The new owners will continue to manage and develop the Blohm + Voss civilian business units.
New Orders for Blohm + Voss Repair
On the February 24, the containership PERU was floated into dock 10 of Blohm + Voss GmbH, a company of ThyssenKrupp Werften. The ship, which is owned by the shipping line Schepers & Co. in Elsfleth and classified by Germanischer Lloyd, has a length of 207.40 m, a beam of 29.80 m and a gross tonnage of 33,014 GRT. The work to be carried out includes repair on the sterntube seal, exchange of steel plates (approx. 1 t of steel) and the replacement of the bow thruster. On March 20, the BANASA, a combined passenger/car ferry of the shipping line Comarit of Morocco, is scheduled to arrive. With a length of 115.35 m, a beam of 20.60 m and a deadweight of 11,668 TDW, the BANASA is classified by Bureau Veritas.
Braemar to Undergo Lengthening at Blohm + Voss Repair
The cruise ship Braemar entered the Elbe 17 Dock at Blohm + Voss Repair on May 13 for lengthening and other conversion work. The ship, which belongs to the Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines will be lengthened by 31.20 metres amidships at the shipyard, which is part of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems. Braemar is the second cruise ship from Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines to be lengthened at Blohm + Voss Repair. She follows the conversion of the BALMORAL between November 2007 and January of this year. In addition to getting a new midship section, 18 new balconies will be installed on the BRAEMAR and her Deck 8 restaurant will be completely renovated. Various other public areas will be rebuilt or renovated as well.
Blohm + Voss Gets QM2 Repair Contract
Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 will arrive in Hamburg at Blohm + Voss Repair GmbH on November 8 for maintenance and repair work. The Queen Mary 2, which was built in 2003, will go into drydock Elbe 17 for maintenance work for the first time. Classification work and extensive painting work will be carried out in the dock. The propulsion units, the anchor winches as well as the four stabilizers will also be overhauled. Owing to the tight agenda and relatively short lay days in Hamburg, Blohm + Voss Repair employees were already on board the cruise liner in Southampton to carry out the necessary preparations for the work. The Queen Mary 2 will leave the Hanseatic City again on November 19.
Blohm + Voss Repair Wins Business

The cruise liner was originally constructed in such a way that it was able to be employed on the one hand as a passenger liner and cargo ship, and on the other as a passenger and car ferry. The Black Prince was converted into a pure passenger liner in 1986. A maximum of 451 passengers can go on a cruise in the 241 cabins of the Black Prince. The last full renovation took place in 1999. The 464.6 x 66.5 ft. (141.6 x 20.3 m) ship, with a draft of 21 ft. (6.4 m) is now receiving a new crankshaft on the port side at Blohm + Voss Repair. Moreover, some paint work has to be carried out in addition to retouch work on the engine plant.

Blohm + Voss Inks Repair Deal
Germany’s Blohm + Voss Repair GmbH (B+V) has signed a contract with Norway’s Red Band AS, Oslo, for the repair and extensive alteration work onboard the 28,670 grt passenger ship Black Watch. The 1972-built vessel will arrive at B+V during April next year (2005), the first time she has visited the yard since November 2003. The remodelling and modernisation work will concentrate on reducing the vessel’s noise and vibration level. A complete new propulsion system with four MAN/B&W 7L32/40 diesel engines, each with an output of 3,500 kW at 750 rpm, will be installed. The repair will also include the installation of new Renk double step-down gear units, NDSL-2800, and two MAN/B&W 8L21/31 Gensets for the generating power supply.
MS EUROPA Sails into B+V Repair
The MS EUROPA, a 5-star-plus luxury cruise liner of Hapag Lloyd Kreuzfahrten GmbH arrived in the morning of 31 August 2004 at dock 10 of Blohm + Voss Repair GmbH. After its stay at the shipyard, the MS EUROPA will be setting off restyled for a 19-day. The cruise will start from Hamburg to Norway, Iceland, Greenland and on to Montreal.

B+V Repair Sector Reports Good Prospects
Two ships are currently at Blohm + Voss Repair GmbH in Hamburg and both were booked in at very short notice, one for rudder repairs and the other for the repair of engine damage. GT: 29.739) from Columbus Shipmanagement (Hamburg Süd) is in Dock 11. Its rudder bearings are being replaced and the rudder blade repaired. In addition a completely new rudder head is being fitted. All of that is happening inside three weeks, which is about the time a shipyard would normally need just to arrange delivery of the parts. The ship is due to leave B + V Repair on November 23rd. The general cargo vessel DJURDJURA (length over all 125,45m, breadth: 17,30m, GT: 5.389) belonging to Algerian shipowner CNAN shipping is meanwhile at Berth 15 for repair of her cooling water pumps and other things.
Two P&O Cruise Ships Getting Complete Overhauls
On November 16, 2011, the luxury cruise liner "MS Oriana" of P&O CRUISES was floated into Dock 11 of Blohm + Voss Repair. Four weeks are required to complete the overhaul and renovation work. Repair Feature: LPG Tanker Repaired, Modernized and Converted
The 977-ft. (297 m) LPG tanker Matthew was docked in mid-August into drydock Elbe 17 of Blohm + Voss Repair GmbH to be repaired, modernized and converted in 33 days. The ship was berthed at the quay for an additional 12 days so that tests could be carried out and the equipment set to work in cooperation with the crew, which stayed on board during the docking period. The Matthew, a large order for the traditional Hamburg shipyard, had hundreds of people working around the clock, seven days a week to ensure the delivery to Cabot LNG Corp. went off as scheduled. The tanker is in service on the route from Trinidad to Boston transporting natural gas, which is taken on board in liquefied form at a temperature of -162°C.

Aggressive Superyacht Investment Pan for Blohm+Voss
Fred van Beers, the newly appointed CEO for Blohm+Voss, unveil details of an aggressive new investment plan in the superyacht sector. Over the next year, the company is restructuring some independent divisions under the same roof. It’s further offering lifetime warranties and monitoring equipment on all new builds. This plan has been prepared over the past few months in partnership with Star Capital and the Board of Directors. Beers will be implementing a number of noteworthy changes over the next 12 months to reinvigorate the superyacht sector of the historic Blohm + Voss shipyard.
RCL Ship to be Modernized at Blohm + Voss Repair
After the cruise liner GTV Summit had been docked in 17 for about two weeks for the installation of a new diesel generator, on April 27. the Brilliance of the Seas will follow. Owned by the Norwegian-American company Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, a new genset will be installed in addition to other miscellaneous work to be carried out. The new diesel genset with a power of about 12 MW will be used in addition to the existing gas turbines. For the installation of the 210 tons unit, a new steel foundation will be installed and 70 metres of exhaust line will be laid. During the docking period, the bearings of both main propulsion units (pods) will be replaced and various other maintenance works, improvements and conversions will be completed. The underwater coating will be renewed as well.
Turbo-Technik: Rescuing A “Prinsesse”
A summer day in July proved to be unfavorable for Color Line, whose passenger ferry, Prinsesse Ragnhild experienced a fire in its engine room en route from Kiel to Oslo. The vessel's fire was apparently caused by a defective fuel pipe. The job of repairing the ship was granted to the German team of Blohm + Voss Repair GmbH, Hamburg, who assured Color Line with a quick turnaround, ensuring that the vessel was kept out of a service for a minimal amount of time, due to its tight cruising schedule. Subcontracted by Blohm + Voss was Turbotechnik Repairyard of Wilhelmshaven, who would perform fire damage repairs to the two Stork Werkspoor Diesel-built main engines, SWD 20 TM 410 (14,000-hp each).
