Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri announced Thursday it has floated out the new cruise ship MSC Seashore at its shipyard in Monfalcone. The vessel has been moved to a wet dock where interior outfitting work will continue until delivery to MSC Cruises in July 2021.MSC Seashore, which will be MSC Cruises’ longest ship at 339 metres and the largest and most innovative ever built in Italy, is the third of four vessels in MSC Cruises’ Seaside class, following MSC Seaside and MSC Seaview launched in 2017 and 2018 respectively.

Scanship, a Norwegian company that produces wastewater purification and waste management systems for vessels, has been awarded an advanced wastewater purification system (AWP) retrofit contract by Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH).The contract is to deliver and install a Scanship AWP system on their Nautica vessel operated under their Oceania Cruises brand.The system will process all grey wastewater sources and black water to the industry highest environmental standard. Cruise liner MSC Cruises has reached an agreement for an EUR 1.5 billion (USD 1.74 billion) financing for two new Seaside EVO class cruise ships.BNP Paribas, Unicredit and Cassa Depositi e Prestiti will provide EUR 1.5bn in financing for two Seaside EVO class passengerships. The financing syndicate of lenders also include SACE SIMEST, the Italian ECA, fully backing the credit line and stabilising the interest rate.The first ship is expected to be delivered in May 2021 and the second in February 2023. German shipyard MV WERFTEN, a wholly owned subsidiary of Genting Hong Kong, said it will install the Evac Complete Cleantech Solution on board two new Global Class ships for Asia-Pacific cruise line Star Cruises. The contract also covers two optional cruise vessels of the same class in the future. Star Cruises’ Global Class vessels are specifically designed for the growing Asian market. Delivery of the two 201,000 GT vessels is scheduled for 2020 and 2021. At over 340 meters long, the new vessels will be the largest ever built at the shipyards of MV WERFTEN.

Evac Group, the world’s leading provider of integrated waste, wastewater, and water management systems for the marine, offshore, and building industries, has acquired Uson Marine. The acquisition is expected to increase Evac’s market share in dry and wet waste management systems, as well as strengthen the Group’s position with regard to small and medium-sized marine and offshore vessels. MSC Cruises recently added a new state-of-the-art liner, the MSC Preziosa, helping the Italian company, truly a family business, attain the status of third largest cruise line in the world. MSC Preziosa is a Fantasia class cruise ship owned and operated by MSC Cruises. It entered service in March 2013 as an enhanced version of its sister ships, MSC Splendida and MSC Fantasia, and is identical to MSC Divina, which was launched in 2012. Built at the STX shipyard in St. Nazaire, France, MSC Preziosa is the new flagship of MSC Cruises. The new ship gained immediate recognition famous courtesy of its christening by actress Sophia Loren, and was significant as it signified that MSC Cruises is now the third largest cruise line in the world.

Evac can now supply the entire waste handling system for vessels and rigs, to accord with MARPOL Annex V regulations. The company say they can supply the entire waste handling system for vessels and rigs, covering both dry and wet waste, from food waste handling to onboard sanitary and wastewater treatment. From January 1st 2013, new requirements relating to the management waste of ships and rigs entered into force. All waste onboard, except food waste, has to be collected, or incinerated, according to the new IMO Marpol Annex V regulations. This requires storage space for waste onboard.

Chinese National Ship Recycling Association (CNSA) delegates attend Germanischer Lloyd’s (GL) workshop in Hamburg. Participants met for a workshop which focussed on standards, training, and research and development. The CNSA delegation was headed by its president, Mr Xie Dehua, whose address examined the approach China industry was taking to improve standards and promote environmentally friendly ship recycling. All 61 member yards of CNSA offer environmentally friendly recycling facilities, using either dry dock or floating methods.

The SMM exhibition in Hamburg has once again proven that it is the cradle of marine technology and the grand-daddy of all marine exhibitions. On display in 12 separate halls were more than 1,300 exhibitors from more than 50 countries, launching new products and discussing business with an estimated 37,000 visitors. More telling that sheer numbers, in this case, is the feeling of the exhibition and the ubiquitous marine technology theme. The quality of attendee and exhibitor is always high, but this edition of the bi-annual exhibition seemed especially charged due to the many positives currently running throughout the full spectrum of the maritime market.
