Northrop Grumman Awarded Sub Contract

Northrop Grumman Corporation won a contract from the U.S. Navy for planning work on the nuclear-powered submarine USS Minneapolis-St. Paul (SSN 708).

Northrop Grumman's Newport News sector is the prime contractor for the work, which will include scheduling, engineering and design work, material procurement, shop pre-fabrication, ship checks and personnel training to support the maintenance availability. The contract is valued at $5 million. The submarine is scheduled to arrive at the Newport News shipyard in October for a five-and-a-half-month dry-dock maintenance period. The USS Minneapolis-St. Paul was in the shipyard in 2003 for similar maintenance.

"We are committed to providing cost-effective, high-quality repairs and maintenance to the Navy's fleet," said Irwin F. Edenzon, vice president of technology development and fleet support at Northrop Grumman Newport News. "This will be the third dry-docking availability of a Los Angeles-class submarine at Newport News since 2003. We've got a great fleet-support team in place and we hope to continue providing this type of service for our Navy customer."
