Norwegian Ferry Company Upgrades

Star Information Systems (SIS) has been awarded a 14-vessel, planned maintenance system software upgrade with one of Norway’s coastal ferry operators, Helgelandske AS. Founded in 1867, Helgelandske AS operates a fleet of 16 vessels - 4 fast ferries and 12 passenger ferries. The company is keen on maintaining its high quality operation and confirms that vessels using old RAST systems will now be retrofitted with modern fleet software. “SIS suites of software have been developed in close cooperation with quality conscious shipowners and are designed for ease of integration with most standard IT systems. They are also designed for rapid customization to meet Helgelandske’s requirements and further secure high organizational and safe fleet performance,” said Trond Wiig, Superintendent, Helgelandske AS. The contract involves a 13-vessel upgrade from RAST to STAR Information and Planning System (IPS) and installing similar Star IPS solutions onboard a newbuilding and a land-based office. Star IPS grants total ship inventory of all key components and workable, user-friendly fleet maintenance software. These two aspects, plus material management of spare parts and document handling of certificates, procedure and reports – necessary to meet increasing safety regulations such as ISM code – are very important to all aspects of Helgelandske’s ferry business. “We are confident that Star IPS gives us the operational security that we need while fully meeting future fleet management demands,” said Wiig. SIS was the preferred supplier of Planned Maintenance System (PMS) on M/F Lur¸y, a double-ended 275 passenger and 50 car-ferry built for Helgelandske at the Polish yard Northern Shipyard (Stocznia Póùnocna SA) in 2000. “The PMS installed onboard M/F Lur¸y has functioned extremely well, and we strongly believe that SIS fleet maintenance software holds the highest standards granting operational economy and safety, said Wiig
