ClassNK Announces New Head of European Operations

Dr. M. Abdul Rahim Welcomed as New Regional Manager of Europe and Africa at Party in London

April 7 (London) - ClassNK officially announced the appointment of Dr. M. Abdul Rahim to the role of Regional Manager in charge of the Society’s European and African operations at a party at the InterContinental London Park Lane Hotel last night.

Nearly 100 guests from without the local maritime industry we’re in attendance at the party to welcome Dr. Rahim to his new position and see off former Regional Manager Tetsuya Kinoshita, including current IACS Chairman and ClassNK Chairman and President Noboru Ueda. Mr. Ueda opened the evening by saying that this new appointment represented one part of ClassNK’s ongoing efforts to provide even better service to the maritime industry in Europe and Africa, saying that “Dr. Rahim’s impressive ability and his excellent work ethic made him an excellent candidate to promote to the position.” Following Mr. Ueda’s remarks, brief speeches were given by Dr. Rahim, Mr. Kinoshita, and Mr. J.G. Davis CBE, Chairman of the International Maritime Industries Forum and Chairman of ClassNK’s British Committee.

Dr. Rahim is an 18 year veteran of ClassNK, having joined the classification society shortly after his receiving his Doctorate in Naval Architecture from Japan’s Hiroshima University in 1993. Since joining the Japanese classification society, Dr. Rahim has served in numerous positions, including carrying out plan approval work in the ClassNK Hull Department in Tokyo, conducting advanced R&D work at the Society’s Research Institute, and serving as a surveyor at the ClassNK Singapore Office. Dr. Rahim joined the ClassNK London Office in 2004, where he was promoted to Manager in 2005 and Deputy General Manager in 2010, before taking up his current position.

Dr. Rahim succeeds former Regional Manager Tetsuya Kinoshita, who has taken on the role of overseeing ClassNK’s strategic development as the General Manager of the ClassNK Planning Department in Tokyo.
