Fleet Operators Choose GLM

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

June 16, 2011

General HydroStatics (GHS) and its derivative, GHS Load Monitor (GLM), are both used by fleet operators. These software programs are designed to be configured by users to match their own reporting requirements while meeting the everyday needs of each vessel with minimal ongoing effort.

Trident Seafoods uses GLM to manage its fleet and to aid the deck and engineering officers in load monitoring to prevent overloading and meet regulatory requirements. With this vertical business from fishing to processing, to marketing, Tom Ford, Fleet Superintendent at Trident, reports that GLM has saved the company from loss of cargo and crew by helping them managing their fishing loads in real time. Additionally, the same software provides information is used at corporate offices, destination ports, logistics planning, and manufacturing plants to accurately prepare for and schedule operations.

Dockwise, a global enterprise, uses GHS to plan and monitor operations with their heavy-lift ships. Using a proprietary interface they developed using macro programming language inherent in GHS, Dockwise simulates each heavy-lift operation before it takes place, thereby developing safe ballasting sequences and training of ship officers. Additionally, Dockwise is in process of implementing simulator training, with GHS incorporated so that their crews can learn at a more rapid pace. Creative Systems is working with Transas, which has an extensive history in developing maritime simulators for businesses and educational institutions for this and future simulators incorporating GHS or GLM.

Both of these businesses are innovative in developing their markets. Without innovation, Trident Seafoods and Dockwise would have harder times with their competitors. GHS and GLM provide them with a steady, yet innovative tool to manage their fleets which they can rely on. Whether using GLM, with its operator-friendly interface, or developing a custom interface in house with GHS, Trident Seafoods and Dockwise succeed in their fleet management due to the flexibility and power of these products.
