Sunken Car Carrier to be Salvaged by Boskalis Partnership
Boskalis inform that the Dutch Department of Public Works intends to award the contract for the salvage of the wreck of the car carrier 'Baltic Ace' to Boskalis and its partner Mammoet Salvage.
Boskalis explain that the wreck and its cargo need to be removed because they pose a threat to the environment and to shipping on the busy route towards the Port of Rotterdam. The Department of Public Works expects the definitive signing of the contract in the second half of March 2014. Execution of the project is expected to commence in the course of 2014 and will be completed before the end of 2015.
The activities include the removal of the entire wreck, its cargo and 540,000 liters of fuel oil for which a diving support vessel, tugs, barges and sheerlegs will be deployed as well as equipment from SMIT joint venture Asian Lift and Boskalis subsidiary Dockwise. Specialist salvage equipment will also be deployed.
Boskalis say they will provide more information about the project after the signing of the contract.
