Reed Launches Oil Spill Prevention and Response Series

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

May 31, 2013

Reed Exhibitions Energy and Marine group (RX Energy and Marine) is launching a series of oil spill prevention and response technology and service zones throughout its global portfolio in collaboration with the U.K. Spill Association (UKSpill) and the European Spill Association (Eurospill).

As commercial operations in the world’s oceans continue to develop, the requirement to be able to operate with the least possible environmental impact is an even greater focus than it has ever been for all industries.

Also, as activities move into new and harsher territories, meeting this requirement means the development of new strategies and technologies to cope with different and challenging environments.

The zones will run under a new brand, Spillex, which was developed in consultation with UKSpill and will provide a consistent and prominent identity to focus on the prevention of, and response to, environmental incidents in the marine environment. The exhibition will feature the latest technology and service solutions for assessing the potential of spill related impacts, mitigating against and, if necessary, responding to them, including spill response; prevention and response training; contingency planning; oil spill modeling and environmental sensitivity mapping.

The zones will feature throughout the RX Energy and Marine portfolio of events including Oceanology International, SPE Arctic and Extreme Environments and SPE Offshore Europe.

Upcoming Opportunities

SPE Arctic and Extreme Environments

The series will launch at the SPE Arctic and Extreme Environments event in Moscow from October 15-17,  2013.

Sponsored by Exxon, Chevron, Schlumberger and Total the SPE Arctic and Extreme Environments event is provides the upstream industry with access to experts from throughout the E&P sector and insights from engineers, technical specialists and industry leaders on the future potential of the Arctic frontier and extreme environment oil and gas fields.

For 2013, the event will also feature a presentation from OGP Technical Director, John Campbell on their Joint Industry Project on Arctic Spill Response. The project, a collaboration between OGP, IPIECA Oil Spill Working Group (OSWG), Industry Technical Advisory Committee (ITAC) and the API Emergency Preparedness and Response Program Group (EP&RPG) will review prior and future work by the oil and gas industry on prevention and response to oil spills in ice, identify technology advances and research needs in industry preparedness, and prioritize identified issues
