MITAGS Provides Training

MITAGS provides ship pilots, maritime organizations and government employees with small arms training, employee awareness, security assessment, security management, chemical, biological, and radiological training for enhanced public and organizational safety and security.

Glen Paine, executive director of the Maritime Institute of Technology & Graduate Studies (MITAGS) and Pacific Northwest Maritime Institute (PMI) Seattle, Washington announced that its small arms and other security enhancement training programs are now open to all companies and organizations.

"The attack on the United States on September 11, 2001 has created a demand for enhanced security for American citizens, maritime organizations and government officials. Over the years, MITAGS has provided professional mariners and the Military Sealift Command with small arms, employee awareness, security assessment, security management and chemical, biological and radiological training," said Paine, "As organizations race to provide their employees and the public with increased security, we have opened our security training programs to all companies throughout this country."

Lieutenant Jack Lynch USN (Ret), MITAGS' Firearm Instructor is a licensed Commercial Pilot, Flight Engineer, Scuba and Nitrox Diving Instructor, and a Certified Police Firearms instructor. Lt. Lynch served in key positions in operations, intelligence and training research development. He was a Navy Seal instructor and taught small arms and combat shooting courses. He is an explosives expert and was temporarily assigned to Naval Sea Systems Command and the State Department to assist in the 1974 Suez Canal Clearance. Lt. Lynch is qualified to wear Navy Seal and Surface Warfare Officer insignia, Navy and Army Parachutist wings, Scuba, Second Class and First Class, Saturation Diving Officer and Salvage Officers insignia with thirty-three personal awards.

MITAGS' Small Arms Training is a four-day course designed to provide instruction in the care and safe use of firearms, as well as in basic offensive and defensive tactics. Employee Awareness, Security Assessment and Security Management courses are designed and tailored to meet corporate requirements and to assist employees in recognizing and responding to threats. The Chemical, Biological, and Radiological Defense (CBRD) course provides an understanding of the complex environment to be encountered in any chemical, biological or radiological event, with an emphasis on classifications, symptoms, treatment and personal decontamination procedures.

Strategically located near Washington D.C., the MITAGS training and conference facility is utilized by over fifty thousand people annually. Such visitors include many important government and industry officials. The Vice President of the United States, the Commandant of the United States Coast Guard, the Commander of the Military Sealift Command, Justices from the Supreme Court and Governors from the state of Maryland have all visited MITAGS.
