Scandlines Enhance Puttgarden-Rødby Route Capacity
Scandlines has deployed the M/V Mercandia VIII ferry in order to increase the capacity for the following months, while the passenger ferry M/V Prinsesse Benedikte is at the yard.
As per Wednesday 15 April 2015, M/V Mercandia VIII will transport lorries every Tuesday to Friday where the cargo traffic peaks.
At the same time, Scandlines’ M/V Holger Danske, which is primarily sailing with special cargo on the route, has increased the number of daily departures. The two freight ferries will thereby move lorries from the passenger ferries on the route, making more room for cars.
M/V Prinsesse Benedikte is one of four passenger ferries to operate the Puttgarden-Rødby route. The ferry was damaged during a planned yard stay in March. Consequently there will be departures every 40 minutes from both Puttgarden and Rødby, as opposed to 30 minutes normally, until the end of June 2015.
”Our first priority is to ensure the necessary capacity for both passengers and freight customers on Puttgarden-Rødby. By deploying an extra ferry we aim to avoid waiting times, until we can go back to normal schedule as expected in the end of June,” explains Søren Poulsgaard Jensen, CEO in Scandlines.
Scandlines has chartered M/V Mercandia VIII from HH-Ferries, who normally uses the ship as a backup ferry on the Helsingør-Helsingborg route. M/V Mercandia VIII is 95 meters long and 15.27 meters wide and it can transport 14-15 lorries.
