USS Cole Repatriation Team Honors DDG 67, Crew

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

May 26, 2006

David T. Wilson was part of the Navy team that “repatriated” USS COLE after she was attacked in Aden, Yemen 12 October 2000. The repatriation crew flew a dedicated U.S. flag aboard DDG 67 on Veteran's Day 2000. That flag has been passed from crewmember to crewmember every year with instructions to fly it on five days during the year: the anniversary of the attack; Veteran's Day; Memorial Day; Flag Day; and the Fourth of July. The geographic locations the flag are flown are to be significant to the person holding the flag and documented in a scrapbook. The flag is currently in Wilson’s possession. Now, he has requested NSWCCD commander Captain Charles Behrle’s permission to arrange with the Carderock guard force at the Bethesda HQ to fly this flag on Monday, 29 May when Memorial Day is observed. Dave notes that NSWCCD has played a significant role in the aftermath of the attack and that the team would like to honor those who perished on that day as well as those who survived by flying the flag over the Bethesda site.
