Terex® Quaymate M50 mobile harbour crane is Crane of the Year – Dr. Mathias Dobner honored
Rotterdam/Düsseldorf, 24 November 2014 – Terex Port Solutions (TPS) has been successful in two categories of this year’s awards, presented by the leading international specialist magazine International Bulk Journal (IBJ). In Rotterdam, TPS received the Crane of the Year award for its Terex® Quaymate M50 mobile harbour crane, launched in spring 2014. In addition Dr. Mathias Dobner, Vice President Development, Engineering & Operation at TPS, was named Personality of the Year. Since 2009, IBJ has presented these awards. They are considered some of the most sought-after prizes in the bulk materials handling market.

Terex mobile harbour crane for small terminals impresses
By awarding a prize to TPS for its Terex Quaymate M50 mobile harbour crane, IBJ has recognized a cargo handling machine for a new target group. The crane is designed as an entry model. It enables predominantly small sea and river ports to change from the non-port machines often used to dedicated equipment for professional handling of all cargo types. The new crane is equipped with a motor grab for effective bulk handling.

Klaus Peter Hoffmann, Vice President & Managing Director Terex Port Solutions, also sees the IBJ Award as a confirmation of the customer-driven strategy of TPS: “Like the Model 2 mobile harbour crane in 2012, the Terex Quaymate M50 crane from TPS makes mobile harbour crane technology available to new customer groups. In Asia particularly, many terminals are still working with outdated equipment, not designed for continuous handling in a rough maritime environment. We now offer terminals like these a cost-effective and robust crane that helps with continuous loading and unloading on inland barges and coasters.”

Shaping the industry since 1996

Dr. Mathias Dobner described it as a great honor to receive the IBJ Personality of the Year Award. IBJ presents this award every year to a personality who has shaped the bulk handling sector. In his acceptance speech, Dobner, who joined TPS in 1996, underlined the importance of the teamwork of all players, “Those who wish to be successful in our business need strong relationships with customers, technological partners and Terex team members. In the port industry, and particularly in bulk handling, all those involved are interlinked.”

As an example of this type of successful teamwork, Dobner mentioned floating cranes from TPS: “Our floating cranes were created at the suggestion of a customer with whom we worked to develop these machines. We have since supplemented our floating cranes with smart crane features such as verifiable weighing systems, which originate, in turn, from proven technology providers.”
