Seahunter: Amazing Boat Torture Test
On September 20, 2011, SeaHunter Boats, a South Florida yacht builder, hoisted a new, standard production, 35 foot boat, twenty feet into the air and dropped it on a concrete yard at Plantation Boat Mart in Islamorada, Florida. The impact registered 100 g’s at the transom.
The result was a thunderous sonic boom when the quarter million dollar vessel first hit the pavement. The kinetic energy, caused by the nearly four ton vessel falling towards earth, caused it to bounce off the hard pavement not once, but three times after the initial impact. When the dust settled, the boat was examined by industry professionals only to discover light cosmetic damage to the hull. In fact, the hull was in such good condition that a pair of Yamaha 300 Hp outboards was installed on the vessel, and the boat returned to the water immediately after the drop. She ran full throttle and performed as well as she did before being subjected to the incredible 100 g impact.
The SeaHunter 35’ survived this extreme torture test because of the Kevlar and Carbon Fiber materials utilized in the manufacturing process. The very same fibers that stop high velocity projectiles dead in their tracks are utilized in the construction of all SeaHunter boats. The combination of a proprietary high-tech manufacturing process and the use of these bullet-proof materials result in an extraordinary boat that will not break, and it will not sink despite what brutal punishment it is subjected to.
In order to further demonstrate the strength and integrity of a SeaHunter boat, the same 35’ boat that was run in open water after the drop was sawed in half! This difficult process took a professional salvage company three hours of painstaking work utilizing an industrial circular saw, numerous diamond tipped blades and finally a chainsaw to accomplish the task. Both halves were then returned to the water and, as expected, simply floated in place. A crew boarded the aft piece of the boat, started the engines, and throttled it up to speed for a demo ride that must be seen in order to be believed. Two professionally produced videos, a short (2 min) and a long version (8 min) documented the dramatic drop and the cutting of the boat in half.
Every SeaHunter boat is designed to meet the needs of its owner with perfect style, substance and balance. Whether for hard-core fishing, entertaining, or simply taking in a breathtaking sunset at anchor, SeaHunter is engineered and built to over deliver on the expectations of any boater. What occurred on that sunny day in September demonstrates what happens when perfection in design, engineering and manufacturing combine to create a world-class yacht that is like no other.
