EBDG Adds Staff
Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG) said that Darren Monzingo has re-joined Elliott Bay Design Group. Darren first joined EBDG in 2003, bringing marine engineering experience in both the military and commercial marine sectors. He works out of Tampa, Florida in support of projects for EBDG's Seattle and New Orleans offices, where he is responsible for developing concept and contract designs, feasibility studies and cost analyses for new vessel construction and existing vessel modifications.

Metal Trades Completes Navy Fuel Barge
Metal Trades, Inc. announced the completion of two double hull Fuel Barges for the U.S. Navy as a sub-contractor to Maybank Industries. The ABS classed 7,000 barrel barges are designed to carry diesel and JP-5 fuel in four cargo tanks within a 180 foot long by 44 foot wide hull. These two barges are being delivered to Pacific Naval Facilities. The two barges (YON-332 and YON-333) were designed by Bristol Harbor Group.
GPA Involved with T-AGOR-27 Contract
In October 2011, the Seattle-based Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering firm Guido Perla & Associates, Inc. (GPA) was awarded a contract to deliver the Regulatory Design and Detail/Production Design for the T-AGOR-27 Ocean Class Research Vessel. The basic design was developed by GPA during a NAVSEA sponsored design competition while under contract with Dakota Creek Industries (DCI) and partnered with leading marine industry equipment vendors.

Wiernicki: Class' Move into Ship Design "Dangerous"
ABS President and CEO Christopher J. Wiernicki has warned that a move into ship design by some class societies creates a fundamental conflict of interest with their role as independent providers of safety approval and certification. Wiernicki used his keynote address at the Houston Mare Forum USA conference to question the rationale of some class societies in promoting energy-optimized designs created in-house, a development he described as âdeeply troublingâ.
Analytic Systems Certifying Products to ABS Standard
Analytic Systems has announced that it has responded to its commercial marine reseller network in North America and started the process of certifying their marine specific power conversion products.
