MHI Orders Emsys for AIDA Cruise New Builds
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) of Nagasaki, Japan has ordered Emsys advanced laser emissions monitoring equipment from WR Systems, Ltd. (WRSystems) for two new-build vessels in construction for Carnival cruise line’s AIDA Cruise brand. The two 125,000-ton passenger vessels, which are the largest ever constructed for AIDA Cruises, feature many innovations that will set higher standards in vessel environmental performance.

Kongsberg Maritime has delivered its 50th HAIN (Hydro Acoustic aided Inertial Navigation) Reference System, to long-time HAIN user, Ocean Rig. HAIN significantly improves reference data accuracy and update rate sent to Dynamic Positioning (DP) systems to support safer, more reliable and efficient offshore drilling operation. It is also suitable for applications including offshore loading and specialist operations such as offshore construction.

Incat Crowther to Design 'Super Dream' Catamaran
Incat Crowther contracted to design a 32m catamaran ferry for Ishigaki Dream Tours. Super Dream will be built by Richardson Devine Marine and will be the second Incat Crowther/RDM vessel for the operator, after 2008’s Premium Dream. Super Dream will be powered by a pair of Caterpillar C32 ACERT main engines, which will drive a pair of NICO island-mounted gearboxes. Propulsion will be by 5-bladed fixed-pitch propellers.

GE to Equip PSVs under Construction for Petrobras
GE’s Power Conversion business will provide dynamic positioning (DP) and vessel control systems to equip the next generation platform supply vessels (PSV4500), currently under construction at the Detroit shipyard to the Brazilian shipbuilder Starnav Serviços Marítimos Ltda. These vessels, the first of which will be commissioned and will be put into operation by Starnav in 2015 on behalf of Brazilian oil giant Petrobras, will target fuel efficiencies as one of their primary aims.

Petrobras Cuts Spending, Quarter Profits Fall 19%
Brazil's state-run oil company Petrobras moved to check years of missed targets, soaring costs and rising debt by scaling back near-term investments and setting a limit on long-term growth. Petroleo Brasileiro SA, as Petrobras is formally known, cut its five-year investment outlook for the 2014-2018 period to $221 billion, 6.8 percent less than its previous 2013-2017 plan, after reporting a 19 percent drop in fourth-quarter profit late on Tuesday.

An expert in ocean and coastal towing, Smith Maritime, needed dependable diesel power when its 90 ft Elsbeth III was in need of repowering prior to towing the 520 ft USS Hoyt S. Vandenberg to the Florida Keys. The Vandenberg was sunk six miles offshore, becoming Florida's largest artificial reef. The company turned to Laborde Products, who had previously supplied Smith Maritime with Mitsubishi heavy-duty marine propulsion engines and ordered three new 1,180 hp Mitsubishi S12R-Y1MPTA engines.
