Rolls-Royce to Supply Rig Equipment for Samsung Heavy

Rolls-Royce has signed a contract to supply thrusters and deck machinery for two semi-submersible drilling rigs to be built at Samsung Heavy Industries in Korea for Stena Drilling. Rolls-Royce reported the value of the contract to be around £22.5 million. Rolls-Royce is a supplier of large thrusters and deck machinery to the offshore drilling market. So far the company has delivered 1,200 thrusters to close to 200 rigs and drillships, and mooring systems to 25 rigs.
Signet Construction of ASD Tug

Construction of Signet Maritimeâs seventh ASD tug in less than four years, M/V Signet Vigilant is underway at Signet Shipbuilding & Repair in Pascagoula, Mississippi. The 30 metric ton bollard pull, EPA Tier III, ASD vessel will be the first Castleman Maritime design for Signet with delivery slated for July 2014. The new tug will operate from Signetâs International Operations Center in Ingleside, Texas where it will perform rig escort, ship, and barge assist work.
Rolls-Royce Design and Equipment for COSCO

Rolls-Royce has won an order to provide an integrated design and equipment package for two offshore supply vessels to be built at COSCO (Guangdong) Shipyard Co., Ltd. in China for the Singapore based Chellsea Group, a company in the offshore oilfield services industry. The two Rolls-Royce UT 771WP platform supply vessels will be the first vessels in Asia featuring the wave piercing bow designed to pierce through the waves in rough seasâŚ
IMO Secretary-General to Make Arctic Voyage

IMO Secretary-General Koji Sekimizu departs later this week (Thursday, August 15) on a five-day Arctic sea voyage as part of a fact-finding mission to the region. Mr. Sekimizu will be the guest of the government of the Russia aboard the nuclear-powered icebreaker 50 Let Pobedy as she voyages on the Northern Sea Route that links Europe and northern Russia. Mr. Sekimizu will commence his voyage from the port of DiksonâŚ
Rapp Electric Winches for New OâHara Vessel

Rapp Hydema landed a contract for theoutfitting of the new trawler F/V Araho, a 185-ft. freezer-trawler being built for OâHara Corporation at Eastern Shipbuilding in Pensacola, Fla. The owners had originally planned to retrofit the F/V Harvester Enterprise but instead opted for an outright newbuild. The new trawler build has potential to mark the first of several new trawler builds to replace aging hulls throughout the Alaskan trawl fleet.

Thordon Bearings Inc. has launched the newest addition to their greaseâfree polymer lineup: ThorPlasâBlue. The lifetime lubricated bearing formula is capable of operating pressures up to 45MPa (6,527 psi) and can be easily backâfit into virtually all deck machinery applications where greased bronze is currently installed. ThorPlasâBlue was developed as a maintenanceâfree solution to replaced greased bronze bearings as well as eliminate a source of pollution.
Rolls-Royce Wins Brazil OSV Contract

Rolls-Royce contracted by Aliança S/A Industria Naval e Empresa de Navegacao, a subsidiary of Fischer Group, and Brazilian shipowner Asgaard Navegação S.A for the design and delivery of equipment to two offshore vessels for Asgaard. The contract value is about £11million to Rolls-Royce. The two vessels are Oil Spill Response Vessels (OSRV), type UT 535 E, with systems designed to prevent damage from oil spills. They have the capacity to transfer recovered oil for proper onshore disposal.
Rolls-Royce Deliver Naval USV & RHIB Launch/Recovery Systems

Rolls-Royce has recently delivered 2 launch & recovery systems for unmanned surface vehicles (USV) & manned Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats (RHIBs) to an international navy. These systems have been retrofitted aboard frigates and utilize a custom articulating davit with a telescopic boom. Jeff Langsner, Managing Director â Rolls-Royce Naval Marine Canada (RRNMC) said: "This contract highlights Rolls-Royce is the supplier of choice for marine vehicle launch and recovery systems.

Rolls-Royce signs extensive equipment orders with Italian cruise ship builder Fincantieri for Viking Cruises' 2 newbuildings. Viking Cruises recently ordered two cruise ships from Fincantieri and have chosen the highly-efficient Rolls-Royce integrated rudder and propulsion system, called Promas, for their vessels. This is the first time that a Promas propulsion system is being installed on a new-build cruise vessel.

Robert Allan Designs Tug for Rio Tinto

The Pilbara Apollo, the latest addition to the RAstar 3200 escort tug series was delivered to its owners, Rio Tinto Ltd., earlier this year. The vessel was constructed at Uzmar Shipbuilding Industry Co. in Turkey and will operate at Rio Tintoâs iron ore export facilities at Cape Lambert (Port Walcott) and Dampier, Australia. The Pilbara Apollo is the first of six new RAstar 3200 tugs to be delivered to Rio Tinto as part of this contract.

New AVT 3000 Class Voith Schneider tugboat for Carbonnes del Cerrejón completes delivery voyage from Turkey to Colombia. The new tugboat, Media Luna, sailed into Puerto de Bolivar, Colombia to be welcomed by other Cerrejón towing vessels providing fire monitor displays. Media Luna was constructed at Uzmar Tug and Work Boat Factory in Izmit, Turkey.
