JK Fabrication Wins Emergency Tow Reel Order
Olympic Tug and Barge, a Harley Marine Services Company, has selected four JK Fabrication emergency tow storage reels for new barges being built at Zidell Shipyard in Portland (the first two) and Vigor Shipyard there also (the last two units). Given earlier success at U.S. Coast Guard testing in southern California, earlier orders from Olympic, Smith Maritime, U.S. barge and HME Construction, and acclaim from ABS and marine surveyors, JK has applied for U.S. patent on the unit.
W&O Actuated Valve Solution for Vigorous

Profitability in shipping goes up and down in waves. 2012 wasnât too bad, with annual operating costs shrinking by 1.8% on average versus 2011, when average costs rose 2.1%, but 2013 weighed anchor in the losses column for many. U.S. Shipbuilding: ESG Nabs Two Z-Drive Tug Contracts
Eastern Shipbuilding (ESG) said that Suderman & Young Towing Company and Bay Houston Towing Company each exercised one additional Z-Drive Tug to be built at ESG. This brings the total to six of the new Robert Allan, Ltd. Z-Tech 2400 Class Terminal & Escort Tugs built at ESG's Panama City, FL facilities. Protecting Shippers from Ebola Outbreak
The IMO have reacted quickly in response to the international emergency recently declared by the World Health Organization (WHO) over the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. In September the IMO issued an international circular â3484â calling for a united response from the shipping industry to contain the virus. Specifically it calls for ship operators to define 'measures to reduce the risk of exposure' if they are likely to have ships trading to and from ports in Ebola-affected States.
Marcon Sells 3,900BHP Tug Overseas
Marcon International, Inc. of Coupeville, Washington announced the sale of the 3,900BHP, U.S. flag twin screw tug Maria Brusco (ex-Ocean Service) from a U.S. owner to private overseas buyers for transfer to registry under foreign flag. The 127â x 32â x 14â depth tug was originally built in 1967 by Burton Shipyard Inc. in Port Arthur, Texas as Hull 404 for International Bulk Transport of Wilmington, Delaware and operated for Sonat Marine of Philadelphia towing petroleum barges coastwise.
Goodwood Ship Management Set For Growth
Goodwood Ship Management, the Singapore based management company, is set to increase its fleet under management to more than 10 million deadweight tonnes, the companyâs annual officersâ conference heard this week.
