SevernTrent De Nora to Showcase Ballast Water Treatment

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

May 9, 2011

Featured products include the BALPURE®ballast water treatment system, MARINER OMNIPURE®marine sanitation device and UAT™ water filtration system.

Severn Trent De Nora, a leading provider of electrolytic seawater disinfection systems, will showcase its line of ballast water treatment, marine sanitation and seawater desalination systems at Nor-Shipping, to be held 24-27 May, 2011, in Oslo, Norway.

The following products will be featured during the exhibition at stand D07-40:

•    The BALPURE® ballast water treatment system is a reliable, flexible and high-capacity electrolytic disinfection treatment solution to meet the most stringent ballast water discharge requirements with no adverse effects on the environment. Using a unique slip stream approach, the BALPURE system can be remotely mounted away from ballast lines. The system is most commonly supplied in six small, sub-assembly components. It can be installed in the most convenient location to suit vessel machinery, minimizing the relocation of other equipment or the need for engineering / ship re-designs. The BALPURE system features low power requirements – less than half of some competitive systems; low maintenance requirements; and simple operation. Accommodating ballast water treatment for vessels ranging from 500 to 20,000 m3/hr, the BALPURE system is especially advantageous for flow rates greater than 3000 m3/hr, as well as those with a hazardous rating. The BALPURE system surpasses requirements for IMO G8 Type Approval and IMO Ballast Water Convention D-2 Standards. Type approval of the BALPURE system is anticipated in the first half of 2011.

•    The MARINER OMNIPURE®marine sanitation device provides effective electrolytic treatment of both black and gray water through a proprietary and certified treatment process. The light-weight systems are easy to install and maintain and feature a small footprint to fit vessels. Treatment capacities range from 781 gallons (2,960 liters) to 1,796 gallons (6,800 liters) of human wastewater per day. Systems have received Bureau Veritas Certification for IMO Resolution MEPC.159(55)

•    The UAT™ seawater desalination membrane filtration systems effectively produce fresh treated water, free of particulate matter or contaminants, from a seawater source. Systems range in output capacities from 2,000 to 26,000 gpd (7,570 to 98,410 lpd) and are available in standard and custom-made specifications to meet the requirements of a classified area.

According to Frank Martin, director of operations for Severn Trent De Nora, “Nor-Shipping provides Severn Trent De Nora a forum to showcase our innovative electrolytic disinfection treatment solutions. We anticipate particular interest in the BALPURE ballast water treatment system, inasmuch as ballast water has been the most frequently cited cause of the introduction and transfer of non-indigenous species into waterways globally. Electrochlorination disinfection is a proven approach to limiting the spread of non-indigenous species.”
