The New England Institute of Technology said it will launch a new program for unemployed people in shipbuilding and other maritime high-skill trades, necn.com reported.

WPRO-AM reported the program will be based at the school’s campus in Warwick and is due to start this summer.

The Shipbuilding/Marine Trades and Advanced Manufacturing Institute’s inception was reportedly made possible by a $2.5 million grant given to the school from the U.S. Dept. of Labor.

The institute has its sights on training 400 people in the first three years, and the program already has commitments from employers Electric Boat and Senesco Marine to offer training and jobs to graduates, a spokesman for the school said.
