C-MAP Wins China Shipping Contract

China Shipping Container Lines Co. Ltd, a subsidiary of China Shipping Group, is one of the largest Shipping companies in China. It owns a fleet of 103 container vessels with a total capacity of over 120,000 TEUs, and is operating dozens of domestic coastal and international routes from China to Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia, Australia, Europe, Mediterranean and North America.

In the beginning of 2003, when the construction of their new Xin Series began, it has been decided to equip the 5600TEU vessels with Litton Sperry VMS ECDIS and 4200TEU vessels with KH ECDIS. Both of these systems can read C-MAP charts, as well ARCS and 7Cs charts. China Shipping Container Lines Co. Ltd has been in close contact with C-MAP agent Tecway throughout the building process. China Shipping Container Lines Co. Ltd has made the decision to use C-MAP after extensive investigation and evaluation of different chart suppliers. Now 10 new vessels in operation are using CM-93/3 format in their systems. China Shipping Container Lines Co. Ltd is also considering to implement C-MAP charts in 44 new vessels which are planned to be built.

So far, the comments from the first users of C-MAP charts have been enthusiastic. The 2nd mate from one of the ships commented “The electronic chart is much more convenient than the paper chart. Once you familiarise yourself with the functionalities, you want to use the system more and more”.

Agreement with Chinese Navy

C-MAP Norway signed a distribution agreement with the Chinese Navy concerning the Official Chinese Civil Nautical Charts.

The Navigation Guarantee Department (NGD) of the Chinese Navy Headquarters and C-MAP Norway AS, signed earlier this month an agreement related to the distribution of Civil Digital Nautical Charts. As a result, C-MAP has been authorized to process and distribute chart data in CM-93/3 (including CF95 and CF3) format (cartridges) based on China NGD official chart information. The above data is not equal to ENC. The co-operation is regarded as a successful breakthrough for C-MAP in China after 6 years of active involvement in the Chinese market.
