Neptune Maritime Security Becomes ICoC PSSP Signatory

Neptune Maritime Security is pleased to announce that, as of April 1st 2011, it will be recognised as a full signatory to the International Code of Conduct for Private Security Service Providers (ICoC PSSP).

This initiative, launched by the Swiss government in Geneva in November, 2010, has been widely hailed as a landmark agreement and praised by governments and human rights groups alike.

By becoming a signatory, Neptune Maritime Security agrees to adhere to the terms of the ICoC, pledging to respect human rights and to fulfl humanitarian responsibilities towards all those affected by Neptune Maritime Security’s business activities. It will also give Neptune Maritime Security the chance to contribute to future policy by working with the ICoC steering committee and working group on Maritime Security.

Nigel Booker, director of Neptune Maritime Security, said the company was delighted to become a full signatory, adding: “Private security providers have required a regulatory body for some time. This International Code of Conduct sets and monitors standard operating procedures and practices for the industry. More importantly, it provides peace of mind for ship owners and shareholders, allowing them to employ legal, reputable and strictly governed security practitioners.

“When employing armed guards in these challenging times, shipping company security offcers must only utilise companies which comply to stringent codes of practice like the ICoC PSSP. Only then can they be certain that their vessel, cargo and corporate reputation will remain intact and out of the headlines.”
