New CADCAM Solution

Working in cooperation, Napa Ltd and DRS Defense Solutions, LLC, Advanced Marine Technology Center (DRS DS AMTC) have created a new interface between NAPA and MAESTRO software.
Interfacing these two products will increase efficiency in the early stage of ship structural design, analysis and evaluation process by allowing the designer to leverage one 3D model from start to finish within the scope of structural design and direct analysis. This will eliminate the very common practice of recreating 3D structural models to serve different activities.
“This will be the most extensive finite element interface in NAPA, and it will help to shorten the overall time in structural analysis significantly,” says Tomi Holmberg, Manager at NAPA Business Unit. “Cooperation between Napa and DRS DS AMTC will strengthen the position of both companies in the shipbuilding market.” MAESTRO’s Principal Software developer, Dr. Ming Ma, states: “This is the first NAPA finite element model (FEM) interface that transfers load data in addition to structural FEM mesh. The process of properly loading a finite element model can be tedious and time-consuming, thus representing a significant level of effort for the engineer. In addition to the FEM mesh, this interface seamlessly brings the loads from the NAPA model into the finite element model. Once these loads are successfully transferred, the engineer can leverage the existing structural analysis and evaluation capabilities of MAESTRO.”
DRS DS AMTC is staffed by naval architects and marine engineers who have extensive backgrounds and expertise in hydrodynamic and structural analyses, research, and software development. DRS DS AMTC’s marine software packages include MAESTRO, Tempest, and Orca3D, which are used worldwide by the naval, commercial and pleasure craft sectors of the marine industry.
The Napa Group is one of the world’s leading software houses in the marine industry, supplying software solutions for ship design and operation. NAPA and Onboard-NAPA software are used by the world’s leading shipyards, owners, designers, classification societies and authorities. Napa Ltd has nearly 350 user organisations. Onboard-Napa Ltd has carried out over 1000 ship installations.
