Symphony Orders DP2 Offshore Ships from Ferus Smit

Ferus Smit has received an order from Symphony Shipping to build and deliver two DP2 offshore dedicated versions, with two options, of the new ECOBOX design. The two ships are in addition to the six ECOBOX-MPVs presently being built by Ferus Smit for the same client.
 
The new design is based on the existing ECOBOX concept and, thanks to a DP2 dynamic positioning notation, can also be used as a large capacity and long range offshore supply vessel.
 
The ECOBOX-DP vessel is particularly designed for project cargos in the windmill and oil and gas related industry, including pipe laying and cable laying support. The vessel has one long box shaped hold and the open top notification enables the vessel to transport large project cargoes without height restrictions and to be loaded or unloaded at open sea.
 
The DP2 dynamic positioning system enables excellent station keeping of the vessel, also in harsh weather and sea state conditions. Therefore the vessel will be equipped with double azimuth ducted thrusters in the aft ship, combined with three bow thrusters forward. All thrusters will be driven by a combined diesel-direct and diesel-electric system totaling about 8,000 kW.
 
Other vessel features include:
  • Maximum loading capacity abt. 10,500 DWT with hatches closed and abt. 7,000 DWT in open top condition
  • Large floor space for project cargoes, including complete movable tween deck
  • Two cargo cranes
  • Deckhouse placed on fore ship for better protection of deck cargo and enabling to load oversized items over the stern
  • The Ferus Smit ECO bulbless Canoe type bow, designed to reduce fuel costs and better sustained speed with excellent sea keeping behavior in harsh weather and sea state conditions
 
The ships will be built and delivered from Ferus Smit’s yard in Leer, Germany in 2016 and 2017.
