Fluoron Inc. is an aggressive and innovative company that has set out to remedy chafing issues at points of interface between synthetic mooring lines and deck or dock equipment throughout the maritime industry. They have developed various chafe and wear protection technologies including their Carreras Mooring Line Chafing Protection System and Heat Shrinkable Fairlead Roller Covers.

The Carreras Mooring Line Chafing Protection System is designed to protect synthetic lines of a ship or workboat from the rusted, corroded, and abrasive dock bollards. The concept for this design came after years of protecting deck equipment and the realization that dock equipment is neglected because boat and ship owners have no jurisdiction to protect the dock equipment. “The Carreras Mooring Line Chafing Protection System”, manufactured using Fluoron’s MARS material, is a lightweight series of bushings easily installed in the eye of a line that will protect your expensive synthetic lines.

Fluoron Inc. has also developed Heat Shrinkable Fairlead Roller Covers to protect mooring lines on board your vessel. This .060” thick fairlead cover is designed to protect and prevent wear of synthetic lines on fairlead rollers. This MARS cover eliminates the need for repainting the rolls. This area is very troublesome for synthetic lines as the roughness from frequent repainting is a major cause of wear. Another cause of high wear is when the bearings seize causing the destruction of your synthetic lines. The extremely low coefficient of friction not only eliminates wear from the sliding friction, but reduces internal breakdown of the synthetic fibers that make synthetic lines so strong. This cover is easily installed by simply removing the fairlead and sliding the cover over one end with an epoxy adhesive, then heating evenly until the cover is bonded tight. The aesthetic benefits of these white or black MARS covers are easy to spot. Fluoron’s fairlead covers give a look of style and class and require little to no maintenance which translates to savings for the cruise ships beyond the preservation of their costly synthetic lines
