MMI Creates New Mertech Training Program

Marine Mechanics Institute (MMI), a private school specializing in professional marine technician training, is offering an all-new Mertech training program. The first private school training program of its kind to be officially endorsed by Mercury Marine, a global leader in the design and manufacture of marine propulsion products, Mertech is designed to improve the skills of new technicians who complete MMI's core marine technician training programs.

To further enhance his/her technical skills and employment opportunities, Merctech offers an entry-level technician the opportunity to become familiar with Mercury products and dealership operations. Mercury's official endorsement of the Mertech program states, "MMI's new Mertech training program is hereby sanctioned by Mercury as having met the standards set by Mercury's factory courses for entry-level technicians." MMI's core marine technician program graduates who choose to continue their education at MMI by successfully completing the Mertech program, followed by employment at an authorized Mercury/Mercury MerCruiser dealership, are qualified to begin their participation in Mercury's Tech Service Education Programs with Level II courses.

In addition to Mertech training, MMI serves as the official Mercury Regional Technical Service Education Center for Mercury and Mercury MerCruiser dealer technicians in the state of Florida and other southeastern states. "Our confidence in MMI's excellence in technical education has led to the development of a very successful technical training relationship," says Wendell Aasby, Mercury's Director of Tech Service Education. "We are very proud to have established this technical training partnership with MMI," Aasby continues.

Founded in 1991, MMI is a division of Clinton Harley Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Universal Technical Institute, Inc. (UTI). MMI has grown from a small regional training center to a manufacturer-endorsed and sponsored educational institution serving both coasts. Last year, MMI graduated approximately 200 students for entry-level positions in the marine industry. For more information about MMI, log on to www.uticorp.com.
