Webb Institute, an undergraduate institute specializing in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, ranked number two on Money magazine’s list of Money's Best Colleges, a new approach to ranking colleges that aims to measure educational quality, affordability and career outcomes.

Nine months in the making, Money's Best Colleges ranks 665 higher education schools on 17 measures, taking into account the complete cost of a degree rather than a single year. To develop the new rankings, Money partnered with Mark Schneider, former commissioner of the Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics and his company College Measures, which collects and analyzes data to drive improvements in higher ed. Major contributions also came from Payscale.com, which provided the earnings data. One of the most important findings to come out of the rankings, Schneider notes, is that you don’t have to pay a lot to get a high quality education that really helps in the job market. “The published price of a college doesn’t tell you very much about what you’ll actually pay or of students’ later life success,” he said. “There is zero correlation with most of our measures.”

Founded in 1889 by William H. Webb, Webb Institute is a top ranked undergraduate institute specializing in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. Offering full tuition scholarships to admitted students; competition for admission is competitive with only 26 students being accepted into the program each year. Webb Institute prides itself on a 100% placement rate for graduates who are highly sought after by all segments of the Maritime industry. Webb Institute is located in Glen Cove, N.Y. on the North Shore of Long Island. The campus is located on the Long Island Sound coast in a former Gold Coast Mansion.
