Finnlines' First New Hybrid RoRo Launched
Finnlines’ first of three new hybrid ro-ro vessels was launched at the Nanjing Jinling Shipyard in China on Monday. The vessel, Finneco I, will start sailing on the Finnish shipping company’s Biscay–North Sea–Baltic Sea service at the turn of the year. The series’ second and third vessels, Finneco II and Finneco III, will be delivered in 2022.The new vessels are 238 meters long with a cargo capacity of 5,800 lane meters.

Damen Delivers Workboat to Leask Marine
Damen Shipyards Group has delivered a Multi Cat 2712 to Orkney-based Leask Marine. The vessel has been delivered just six weeks following contract; a result of Damen’s series building philosophy. She will perform a variety of marine engineering-related tasks, including dive support, anchor-handling and cable-laying assistance.The Multi Cat, named C-Force, is Leask Marine’s second Damen vessel. Baltic Dry Index Books Biggest Weekly Gain Since Mid-February
The Baltic Exchange's main sea freight index climbed on Friday to post its best weekly gain since mid-February thanks to higher demand for capesize vessels.The Baltic dry index, which tracks rates for capesize, panamax and supramax vessels ferrying dry bulk commodities, rose 38 points, or 1.4%, to 2,788, its highest since September 2010.The main index firmed 16.9% this week, its best since February 19.The capesize index gained 115 points, or 2.8%, to 4,192 - its highest since October 6, 2020.The

Bollinger Buys Gulf Island’s Shipyard Facilities
Lockport, La.-based Bollinger Shipyards has acquired Gulf Island Fabrication’s shipyard facilities in nearby Houma for approximately $28.6 million.The purchased site encompasses 437 acres on the west bank of the Houma Navigation Canal, of which 283 acres is unimproved land that is available for expansion. The facility includes 18,000 square feet of administrative and operations facilities, 160,000 square feet of covered fabrication facilities and 20,000 square feet of warehouse facilities.

Malaysia’s Boustead Heavy Industries has won a deal for submarine facilities upkeep for the Royal Malaysian Navy.The company said Thursday that it had on April 21, accepted the Letter of Acceptance dated April 7, 2021, from the Ministry of Defence Malaysia representing the Government of Malaysia, related to the submarine facilities work.The contract value is RM78,141,440.00 (~around $19million) for a contract period of twenty-four months from January 1, 2021, until December 31, 2022.
