Nearly Half of Interlake Fleet Fit with Scrubbers
The M/V Mesabi Miner has sailed from Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding Company in Sturgeon Bay, Wis., becoming Interlake Steamship Company’s fourth self-unloading bulk carrier to be outfitted with exhaust gas scrubbers. Interlake became the first U.S.-flag fleet to test freshwater scrubbers on the Great Lakes in April 2015 after pioneering the emission-reduction technology on its M/V Hon. James L. Oberstar. In 2016, the company outfitted its first thousand foot vessel, the M/V James R.

Baltic Index Down For Sixth Straight Session
The Baltic Exchange's main sea freight index, tracking rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, fell for the sixth consecutive session on Tuesday on lower rates for larger vessel segments. The overall index, which factors in rates for capesize, panamax, supramax and handysize shipping vessels, shed 16 points, or 1.37 percent, to 1,154 points. The capesize index lost 13 points, or 0.73 percent, to 1,767 points, its lowest in over six weeks.

Viking Line Inks Shipbuilding Deal with Xiamen
Finland based Viking Line said it has signed a conditional contract with Chinese shipyard Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry Co. for the construction of a new passenger cruise ship for delivery in 2020. Deutsche Invest Highest Bidder for Thessaloniki Port
German private equity firm Deutsche Invest Equity Partners was the highest bidder for a majority stake in Greece's Thessaloniki Port with an offer of 231.9 million euros ($251.8 million), privatisation agency HRADF said on Monday. The sale is a key part of the country's international bailout signed in 2015 and comes less than a year after China's COSCO Shipping bought a 51 percent stake in Piraeus Port, Greece's biggest, for 280.5 million euros.
