DOT Issues Broad Agency Announcement

The Department of Transportation (DOT) has issued a Broad Agency Announcement discussing the Port Security Grant Program. The program is coordinated by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), with assistance from the U.S. Coast Guard and the Maritime Administration. TSA is awarding competitive grants to critical national seaports to finance the cost of enhancing facility and operational security. Eligible parties consist of critical national seaports and terminals. Critical national seaports or terminals, for purposes of this program, consist of the following: (a) the 13 strategic ports as designated by MARAD; (b) the controlled ports as designated by the U.S. Coast Guard; (c) nationally important economic ports responsible for a large volume of cargo movement or for movement of products that are vital to U.S. economic interests as required for national security; and (d) ports or terminals responsible for movement of a high volume of passengers. Applications for grants must be submitted by March 27, 2002. Awards totaling up to $93.3 million are currently scheduled to be made in June 2002. Source: HK Law
